  1. There isn't a carousel?  We've used 3 QBs in 3 games and we're supposedly still evaluating them all.   The number 1 week 1 was benched for the number 3 who was later pulled so the number 1 could come back in.  In week 2, the same number 1 started, but now week 1's #3 was #2 and the #2 was #3.  Again number 1 was pulled so number 2 could come in and later number 3 ended up playing as well.    In week 3, the number 2 who was number 3 became #1 while the week 1 number 2 who was moved to number 3 was back at 2 and came into the game late 3rd so the coach could evaluate him.  The original number 1 was apparently number 3 and never saw the field.  Now as we enter week 4 the original number 3 is starting again but the coach says he still is not the clear number 1 and we are going to see multiple quarterbacks (maybe all three?) so we can evaluate.     And there is still a transfer form UM hanging out somewhere for what that is worth

Perfectly clear, no carousel at all ..... 🙄

But, now we have a QB carousel.  He should have ridden Fortin to the end of this season and maybe next.

You're awfully upset about this for some reason.  That hasn't been said by anyone and you don't have to ride out one QB to not have a carousel.  I think it's all ******** personally and everyone knows McClain is the man.  Instead of just bringing him along slowly like was done with Q we play the "no one has separated themselves so we are still evaluating game" .... at least I hope that is the game

You are saying that because you see no wins and he is trying really hard then there must be something more complicated that he is doing but you cannot name a single thing he is actually improving, that’s not a nuanced argument that’s an unfounded argument. Most people with nuanced arguments do this because they aren’t sure what to say and they just know they saw other people on the internet do it when they also had no idea what they were arguing but they didn’t like where all known evidence pointed.

So essentially, the argument is that we need to wait and see

I love that you even make the word nuanced unnuanced. The simplistic approach to life and analyzing situations is certainly easier and more comfortable. So more power to those that are lucky enough to only see two colors.

I think it's funny you consider yourself "sophisticated" simply because you are cool with no FBS wins in a year and a half ...... crap ... not doing it .... walking away @Triple B

No cognitive disconnect. You are hung up as wins as the only indication of the job he is doing. I am coming from a much more sophisticated and nuanced position that there is far more to judging CJS than simply wins and losses. I understand your myopic and simple approach to what is otherwise a much more varied and complex discussion.

There's nothing sophisticated or nuanced about  your "position".  You are simply excusing CJS from the performance on the field and blaming it on outside factors.  At best your approach is "wait and see" ... at worst it is CJS can do no wrong.  But it definitely isn't sophisticated and nuanced.

  6. My only criticism of CJS has been the quarterback carousel for 2 years.  I have consistently said that we will need to see conference play before we really know anything.  I don't think he is on a "hot seat" and he should definitely be here next year (might change my mind if we are still 0fer FBS, but I don't expect that).  But this is a message board so I will probably respond and comment on some things.  If challenged I may respond some more and some things .... well I can't resist some things.  Sorry

Or it is a sign that no one has separated themselves. Like I said we'll have to disagree on this issue.

All I can say CR is that in roughly 30 years of coaching baseball, majority at high school age level ad a head coach or assistant coach, I have never needed more than a couple weeks of evaluation to set a depth chart and have a pretty good idea of what guys can do.  Sure it can change and someone may surprise for better or worse, but neither me or anyone I have coaches with have needed half a season to figure out.  There was one season, my only losing one, but that was due to injuries and that uncertainty was a big reason.  By the way, the second half was much better than the first because I figured it out 😉

You're kidding, right? He's been being "evaluated" in pretty much every other freaking thread in here so why wouldn't one like this attract them like moths to a light ....

Maybe we should throw a few other coaches out there to coach part of games for a few years so we can evaluate them all in game situations before deciding who we want to name head coach going forward.  😉

We'll have to agree to disagree on this.  Especially when one of your choices, and maybe the most talented, is a 17/18 year old that has only been with the team less than a year.

If he isn't ready, he isn't ready.  Then, he isn't your starter yet.   And going with him because you think he is ready and him flopping isn't a sin either.  The sin is that we have played 3 qbs in 3 games because we claim to still be evaluating.  That's the issue and it was last year as well.   And it is a sign of indecisive
