The timing of realignment as it relates to USF's performance is always an interesting topic to me.  USF's attendance will never meaningfully  recover until those in Tampa see USF play in a Power 5 conference.  After all, the Tampa area is accustomed to high power NHL club, the Bucs and the MLB. Proof that USF's attendance will follow suit when were in a relevant conference is that attendance was good in the BE.  Its not as if USF plays in  Norman, Tuscaloosa, South Bend, et al or other quiet town.  USF fortunately has the unique perspective of having been in a relevant league before with fans showing up as proof of concept for any P5 conference giving consideration to picking up a team or teams.  I like the USF:UCF play and think we rise together when it matters.

With the hot and cold performances each year by both teams, it poses to me the question whether a conference sees this and goes in for the long play, picking up both teams for both the TV exposure and the other great reasons to integrate them despite the hot and cold seasons.  I believe they do.  With Frost almost certainly leaving at the EOY and both teams in my mind being reliant on each others combined successes long terms, I hope that each has continued long term success.  I believe they do.

I love the optimism, though  I just dont see it happening.  The collective refusal to believe that what we've seen IS  the actual offense, even on the cusp of playing the LAST regular game of the season is absolutely puzzling to me.

Joe, I think we both know that most are complaining because they know based on cotinued performances like last night that we have very small chance of winning against the very good teams we’ll face in the next 2-3 games (UCF, +\- Memphis and a Bowl).  Their focused on the quality of play and not the net outcome.  As you said, ‘sometimes football isn’t pretty’, or in the case of USF football this year, not a single games was even very good at all.  8 blocked punts, worst penalized team in CFB?  C’mon there are  rose colored glasses and then there’s refusing to recognize that the outcomes of the USF games this year are virtually secondary to shear athleticism and zero coaching.  Oh, and I don’t care about how a few years ago and I don’t think most do on this board.

When a team has seven blocked punts you’d think the coaches would eventually solve the riddle.  Strong is not a good coach.  Imagine what he’ll do with an ‘average’ set of athletes and team. Fact is, UCF is a much better team than us.  Id like us to shake off the 'play not to lose' mentality and do our best to beat UCF.  It will be a big task, this is the game that QF goes to coach and says 'cut the **** and let me play my ball- Ive earned it and Im a senior.

I think not only what you've pointed out is true, I'd say Joey's knack for lack of  sources and detail and ambivalence are actually related.  Why would you seek additional information on a subject (USF), when frankly you're mailing it in most days. It's pretty evident and  I've had this same discussion with an executive at the Times who quietly agreed with me stating that he's generally perceived as disinterested in USF and most in the sports dept actually know this.
