  1. Hopefully we can be 10,000 strong for this. I don't care about the circumstances (home ncaa tournament game + free tickets), filling up an arena the size of the Sun Dome for a woman's basketball game would be a great thing for this program.

Recruits in non revenue sports would love to come to a program that can create an atmosphere like that for sports not including mens basketball and football.

This is an INSANE opportunity. Tell everyone you know. Hopefully this is campaigned to all the students really well tomorrow.

  2. I'm really confident in this defense, as long as we can have at least an average scoring offense and get like 28 PPG (would have ranked 72nd nationally last year) we will probably win at least 7 or 8 games and go bowling.

Flowers winning the job would be huge, as long as it means he stepped up and its not based off the fact everyone else was hot garbage.

Is it just me or do our linebackers...Sanchez and Harris look small? I think back to when we had barrington, Moffit, lattimore, other guys they were all big guys

Sanchez is 10 pounds heavier than DD was his senior year.  He played last season at 240.  He's literally one of the bigger inside LBs we've had at USF 6'3 245... Moffitt played is senior season at 6'2 245.  I think Auggie will be better this season than last.  He was a redshirt freshman starting in the middle, and play decent.  Harris at 6' 220 isn't much different than a lot of OLB we've had at USF.  Sam was starting at 225, though he did get up to 230 as a senior.  Our LBS actually look pretty similar to those we had under CJL... which makes me happy.

I've had a chance to see a few practices now and the biggest thing I'm coming away with is we are going to have a great defense.  From what I see, Flowers is improving a lot.  He seems to be getting comfortable and seeing his ability to break contain and move... he should make some plays with his legs and I'm actually coming around on his passing.  He can run this offense.  To be honest, this looks like an old USF team.  Guys are flying around on the defense and we run a spread offense based around a running QB.  Because make no mistake, the QB who runs this system needs to be able to run.

Mack and Tice have been doing about what I expected.  I haven't seen a lot out of the WRs.  I mean there have been some flashes but to be honest, they are going against a nickel every down and the defense us ahead of the offense.

The offensive line... well... the number 1's do OK sometimes.  I think we should be able to muster up a pretty decent OLine this year once everyone is here and healthy.  Bethel coming in, Brynar, Thor, Djbulkavic (I have no clue as to how to spell his name), Ruff, Hall, Thor, Knox, Galati, Smith... we will be decent.  I predict we will look a lot like USF did when Leavitt first left... likely win 7 or 8 games and make a bowl.  The difference between now and then I think will be this team will embrace the read option.  Leavitt never actually based his system on that.  The offense seemed to be winging it a lot back then, IMHO.

If we can have a season like that it would be huge. We NEED a bowl game this year to help with recruiting, Taggart's job stability, and give the fans a reason to come to the games.

  4. Peters, McMurray, Tulio, and Luis Santo's are all good enough to get minutes next year imo.

I'm not that worried, a guard rotation of AC, Holston, Peters, Dinero, and McMurray would allow are guys to run.

Then have guys like Ziegler, Morrilo and Tulio in the small forward position.

Then with Guerrero, Perry (hopefully), and Santos holding down the paint we should be good enough to not worry about Cousins or Clayton ever seeing the floor.

  5. If only our game vs UCF was how we will play every game going forward, then I would actually be excited for the conference tournament games ahead. Could you imagine if we suddenly got hot with Zeigler, Holston, & Morillo all scoring over 15 every game and we dominate the boards, upsetting every team we face. We end up winning the tournament and getting the auto bid into the NCAA tournament after such a miserable season. Lol the dream scenario that will not play out, we lose game 1 or game 2 at best in our tournament.

    Thats the dream.

Hypothetically, if this were to somehow happen, what seed do you think we would get in the tournament?

  6. The first game of the year usually has a full student section as all the new kids want to check out some college football and everybody else missed tailgating.

If we can be lucky enough to get good weather and build a nice first half 4 touchdown lead there will be a nice fun atmosphere in the Ray-J and really help set the tone for student interest the rest of the year. We need to win by 40+, 3rd year for Taggart no excuses.

  7. Nextt year we will be loaded with talented underclassmen. I feel like the 2016-2017 season will officially mark the end of the rebuild and we will be contending for an NCAA tournament bid.

    Luis Santos (FR)

    Tulio Da Silva (FR)

    Jahmal McMurray (FR)

    Ruben Guerrero (SO)

    Bo Zeigler (SO)

    Troy Holston JR (SO)

    Roddy Peters (SO)

Assuming Dre Clayton (SO) and Dinero Mercurius (SO) transfer.

  8.

...  said Taggart, who points out that 75 percent of the roster has turned over since he took the USF job. ...

This is an important statistic to keep in mind... one that will be more important in the fall will be:

How many players on the 2-deep were "recruited" under Holtz?  My guess is out of the 50 or so players on the 2-deep... maybe 5 will date back to the Holtz era...

How is that compared to last season? Because if the past 2 seasons have mainly been Holtz's guys in the 2 deep then that could be a reason for the lackluster play and maybe we have something to look forward to this year?
