  1. yes, that is part of a macro trend in higher ed. Working at UF, I know that here they are slowly phasing out Hispanic. A lot of Caribbean students feel like that the term doesn't include them. The US like to lump people into monoliths, and you need to feel like where you are attached in so way to where you are being placed. I don't think Latin Americans have had that Marcus Garvey, Pan-ethnicity moment yet. I think we are moving toward that in some was (see Calle 13 Latinoamerica). I just hope we don't end up loosing our heritage the way Africa Americans have. I don't mean that as a slight or in a pejorative way, but many blacks in the US don't know where their families came from.

Awareness of this topic is relative though. I know growing up in Miami shaped the way I see this topic. Being in a diverse environment help me to understand this in a rudimentary way. Having a degree in History (one of two I received at USF) focusing on Latin America, and Cert in Latin Am studies might help as well.

Love the knowledge you dropped. Most other ethnicities won't have to worry about losing their culture/history because they come here voluntarily."African" Americans were taken from their homes and denied the decency of being treated as human beings. So my correction is to say that I can trace my family back to 1865, but no further than that, because they didn't keep records of property.  Most blacks who were enslaved can as well with the proper finances, but unless you come from the islands or there is a stroke of luck, you have to lose your history prior to our freedom.

  2. So you can never utter a word of support for the Leavitt years...

Ouch I get downvoted for calling it the hypocrisy of that statement. We can't praise CWT because "We didn't win anything or even play in a title game. Til he does, there are no need for threads like this IMO." We praise Leavitt all the time and all he did was his job. Never won anything or a title... I'm not hating just stating facts as far as I know them.  Why can you praise one but not the other?  Give Taggart time and the wins and accolades will come. And he's done enough with our soon  to be 9-4 season.

  3. So what, we're rebuilt now cause we won 8 games in one year in a weak division? He did his job and that's what hes paid for. We didn't win anything or even play in a title game. Til he does, there are no need for threads like this IMO.

So you can never utter a word of support for the Leavitt years...

  4. One good season and two terrible seasons does not deserve a raise.  Why not just give out participation trophys too.  If someone is dumb enough to come and get him and pay more, I'm OK with that.  There are plenty of coaches that can win with our team.

The hate is strong with some of you. You act as if he inherited a championship caliber team or much of a team at all... You can thank him for what he's done so far with the potential for a 9 win season and all. And a great way to thank a under paid coach is to pay him. I man UCif paid an unproven coach who will fail next year  as much.

  5. I said this in another thread but it also deserves to be said here:

It's not the same situation as it was with Holtz,  it's exactly the opposite. Holtz had a good season with Leavitt's players, not his own. CWT built this team and the majority of them will be in place for the next two years. So the odds of them magically crapping the bed next season are slim.

Some of us are about to miss out on something good because we got burned in the past. Just because this situation reminds you of your ex, doesn't mean she'll hurt you the same.

This season started "bad"   because we weren't executing just yet. Watching those games hurt because we could see that, not because we played horribly. Bullspeners hear what they want to hear, so what you heard or suspect is irrelevant. What matters is what you've seen, and that's a winning team.

The indication is he wants to get paid what he's worth. What did we pay sorry Holtz? What is the UCif coach who 's never been a head coach making?  And you believe you can sit this coach down and say "give me a little more at a discount THEN I'll pay you what you're worth?"  That's ridiculous, we didn't go 6-6, we didn't squeak out wins, we didn't get lucky... We clicked and dominated with a good opportunity to end with a 9-4 record... C'mon man!!! Get the feelings out the way and pay the man. He just wants to feel financially appreciated.

I'm not his son or his agent I just can recognize a good thing when  see one.

  6. Hasnt won anything here.

Who has? Did we wait until Holtz won something to pay him? Did UCF hire this unproven coach at a discount saying we'll pay you when you win??? With the opportunity to go 9-4 this season, he has earned a raise. It's just that simple. Those who can't see that don't want to. It's how you finish, not how you start.

  7. "Really"? You have the same basic scenario with CWT as we did with Holtz. Skip went from a winning season with Leavitt's players to a losing season with half and half. We jumped the gun by giving Skip an undeserved 5 year extension that we are still paying for.

With CWT we've had 2 losing seasons and a bad start to this one. Thankfully it ended well. Though based on stories I've heard, I'm not sure how much of it CWT was responsible for?  So my thought is to tell CWT an extension will be waiting for him if he has another season like this one next year. Would hate to give him an extension now and we bomb next year.

Also since Taggart interviewed for the South Carolina job, why offer him an extension since the indication is he doesn't seem real interested in staying here. And what is that going to do for our recruiting? Will players want to come here knowing that he may leave at any time?  Think about it.

It's not the same situation as it was with Holtz,  it's exactly the opposite. Holtz had a good season with Leavitt's players, not his own. CWT built this team and the majority of them will be in place for the next two years. So the odds of them magically crapping the bed next season are slim.

  8. ^ The idea that CWT may want to leave because we criticized him during his 2-10 and 4-8 seasons is amusing.  Were we supposed to praise him when he lost to McNeese State?  How about Maryland this year?

Remember that his offense only began to "blossom" with Flowers at QB, and apparently with significant assists by Hope and Kinnan.  Curious to see if he reverts to his pro-style offense wherever he goes when he leaves.

There's a difference between praise  and understanding. Looking at the body of this season Maryland is an anomaly. And magically once  we started winning it's in spite of CWT not because of him. Ok....

  9. DOOD (?) What are you talking about?  I don't get all these posts.  First off, hopefully no one called him names because that would be UCF-like.  Second, I don't remember seeing an "I want it now" mentality at the beginning of the season.  I remember the goal being to go to ANY bowl game with an AAC schedule.  Everyone had very modest expectations and not that many people thought we could even make it.  Sideline coaching?  Try going to an SEC school.  I don't get the "poor Willie" posts.  The team was performing poorly in the beginning of the season.  Willie himself said they could have done more to help the team beat Memphis.  He took the reigns off of Flowers, and Flowers' throwing also improved.  I don't see how he could be bitter about anything.  It wasn't working and he made adjustments that paid off big time.  If he is any kind of professional he will not have hurt feelings over not meeting his own bowl game expectations at the beginning of the season.

Never directly but I remember quite a few "even my niece seen that we should throw more" type posts. All you would have to do is open up an earlier thread, even in some of our recent threads people argue the turnaround should have been sooner. Or if CWT would have gotten out of his own way Mike White could have lead this team to a greater season last year. His first year with the horrible dumpster fire there were those crying bloody murder.

If you don't remember it has to be selective memory. I never said everyone, just a very vocal minority. The team at the  beginning wasn't firing on all cylinders but it wasn't horrible aside from Maryland. I personally don't like how  we seem to turn on him.  Look at the  on this thread alone. Makes our fan base seem two faced. I would take note, that's all I'm saying. It's easy to love him when you see the end result, I always remember those who turned their backs when I was down.

  10. Put me on record as saying that  CWT is just getting his payday. He has dealt with our I want it now mentality, name calling,  and sideline coaching all year. This is a business and I believe he's putting  himself in a better negotiating position. Think of it this way, if his season goes  how some expect next year, I'm sure he will truly remember how we treated him before he brought us to the promised land. Better not insult that man with a midseason extension as opposed to doing it now.

  11. Those that also feel like donating please send me your bank account info with the routing number and account number.  I also apparently have a relative from Angola who recently passed away leaving millions dollars in a trust with no named heir.  According to an email I just received, I could be a long lost relative who is entitled to almost $150 million. As soon as they wire me the money I plan on contributing up to $100,000 dollars to the OCS campaign.   Our problems could be solved.  Let's do this!!!

I must be missing something...  if you aren't already a millionaire and you plan on being very frugal with your money how is 100,000 out of 150 mil. a reasonable contribution that spurs me to follow suit? I mean 1 mil. Wouldn't even remotely hurt your new found riches. Why contribute so little of a percentage?

  12. Not agreeing with your view on the pre-reqs for racism, but I do agree we all have different preferences.  And it doesn't have to be YOUR same "hue".  Variety is the spice of life.  I've dated different races, and when my son asked me what kind of woman I like, I said:  I like women who like me.  I'm just that simple.

That said, I know we have diversity in our cheerleaders, so let's see more pix!

I too dated different races and would advise my sons to do the same. I never said or implied that anyone has to be my same hue. I said I wanted to see variety, No more, no less. Anything else came from people inferring. I learned my preferences through life experiences, I don't hate. Different strokes for different folks. And differing opinions help us find balance.

  13. Who am I going to blame for not being able to get a job?!? I'm well employed s are all of my immediate family. Conversations with the closed minded change nothing, it only fuels the divide. Those in power don't rely listen to those who aren't. What does it benefit the oppressed to hate the oppressor? This is not the place nor medium for this conversation, you can have it alone. We are in different sides of the political divide, let's just enjoy our common thread of football.

  14. You do not understand the difference between racism and oppression. Look at some of the Black Terror organizations running around that say all white people should be killed and tell me they are not racist.

Where we descended from does not matter in this sense, as it is clearly a matter of skin color.

Both twigs on the same branch. How much influence do those groups have?  What have they ever accomplished? Lol at the other side if the same coin, the kkk... political office, attempted genocide, local office, media influence, cultural influence... You really don't want to have this conversation. Either way I'm done with it. All because I wanted to see a variance on pictures of half naked women...
