Yep, completely forgot about him. We be full for now ...

I told you not to mention schollie issues. I was really just trying to save you from this moment :icon_drink:

You never really know. some of these things that are being said have been said before. I'll let you guess about who.

Weaknesses: Far below NBA standard in regard to explosivenes and athleticism ... At 6-2, he's extremely small for the NBA shooting guard position, and it will likely keep him from being much of a defender at the next level ... Although he's playing point guard this year, he's not a natural point guard that an NBA team can rely on to run a team ... Struggles defensively getting around screens ... Can overshoot and rush into shots from time to time (vs. WV) ... Hasn't had to deal with getting benched due to poor performance (shooting) which has allowed him to shoot through any slumps. Will have to adjust to not being a volume shooter which could have an effect on his effectiveness ... Doesn’t like when defenses are too physical with him ... Not a great finisher around the basket due to his size and physical attributes ... Makes some silly mistakes at the PG position. Needs to add some muscles to his upper body, but appears as though he'll always be skinny ...

Weaknesses: More of a 2-guard than a point Must develop as a point guard A decent passer and ball handler, but still must improve considerably in both areas and learn to play the PG position in order to make it in the league ... At 6-1, hes far too small to play solely at the 2G position ... Had a solid 1-1 A/TO ratio (for a freshman who plays mostly off the ball), but can improve upon that Lacks great athletic ability, although he shows good quickness ... Body is on the small side, short arms and lack of great natural body strength ... Lacks great visibility and competition level at mid-major Davidson...

    Oh Steph...

And McBuckets has plenty of upside, it will be about timing and his growth from here to next year. If he is as dedicated as it seems, and I am actually willing to say he is, he will sit and watch plenty of game tape and watch where the doubles come from and where to cycle the ball. He has skill, now it's about honing it.

  2. That's why he needs to work on his court vision. There are plenty of 1's that are of comparable in size, but to make it as such he will have some work to do. Or he can just grow 3-4 inches and everything will be ok. He can just be a short 2 like Monte Ellis or Brandon Knight.

Obviously not saying he is at those levels yet but I think they are appropriate comparisons.

I'd be surprised if McMurray ever gets drafted, it's so difficut.

Well, preliminarily, he has a great shooting form. He has the confidence to shoot it and COULD be great for catch and shoot. An issue he faces is his size suits a 1 and the way he plays more naturally suits a 2 guard. If he wants to get drafted he is going to have to improve his court vision and his ability to create both with and off the ball. He is young, which is a positive for him because he has plenty of upside and some teams draft banking on that.

  4. My thing is this- McMurray has said he has pro aspirations and him testing these waters, getting feedback, and trying to elevate his game to those expectations I think reflect the kind of player we want and that COA intends on recruiting. I think his dedication to the game is reflected in the decision and while I don't think he is ready, I think he will come back next season even better for it.

We should be beating the Tulane, ECU, and UCF consistently next year. I also forgot that we have another off season to bulk up Guerrero, so a front court with Guerrero, Perry, Manderson, da Silva, and Santos should be pretty formidable.

Looking at the group from what I've seen I have high hopes but with very tempered expectations. Santos will need to get his head on his shoulders and in the game. Manderson also seems like his head wasn't 100% in the game at Texas Tech and I think we can only hope he can come here and put it together. Perry ran the floor well but scores best on the hash. His face up game is only dangerous as long as he is close enough potentially to post and roll. Guerrero I think has the best chance to be the starting Center (of those mentioned so far) in the scheme COA wants to employ, but he had a tough time last season. Finally Tulio, I would love to see what this kid can do on the court but sadly we haven't seen anything since his recruiting reels.

I don't see much wiggle room. It's either start winning some games or look for a new job at this point. He has been given two years of looking good on paper for the future.

I would think a .500 record is a realistic and acceptable goal. Then build from there.

My thinking is the time for rebuilding is done now the actual growth must start. If that makes any sense.

I would of course argue one year looking good on paper. His first year I didn't think looked too great but that's when I made my intro into watching college basketball (previously being strictly a pro game fan). I mention the recruiting because as we all know he is a recruiter first and talent combined with coaching makes success than if he can bring in talent why not see what he can make with it. Because of freshmen recruits, he made a 2-star McBuckets prime time (yes yes loosely used), Holston would have shown us the same, and Guerrero has had flashes but that is all. Santos and Tulio are his only freshman let our and we haven't seen anything from them. So from a pure analytics perspective this will be the second truly reflective season on COA as a whole commodity.

All in my opinion of course, thoughts?

  6. So now my question to the fair minded. If COA brings in more talent with this next draft class, let's say he pulls LJ Figueroa and/or an Isaiah Washington, or some other combo of 4 stars, does that change the narrative for him? Does that give him more wiggle room for a mediocre season if he can bring in top talent in hopes of moving the right direction with that talent?

  7. The kid is going to be scary good I think. I've seen some tape and he likes to cut to the rim. If McBuckets and Holston can be there for the kick outs or Baxter/any 4-5 be there for the close feed it will be a fun team to watch.

I'm wondering though, if this kid can get us running the court with an athletic group on the court, will Perry or our 5 be effective? I say that because Perry was most effective at the hash and Tulio is pure speculation at this point. It will be interesting to say the least.

I would agree with Cousins but is McMurray partially a product of the 35+ minutes he plays each game? He only averages 2.5 APG and has 1:1 turnover margin as our point guard, and shoots less than 40% from the field and 33% behind the arc. Is he REALLY that much better or is his "improvement" a function of the short bench we have?

Valid question, unfortunately we have seen a drop off the past two weeks or so from McBuckets. But he is catching a match now

  9. 20 pushes later Cousins picks up the foul.

This year? Unfortunately no one. Nuñez has had good contributions but no late resurgence. Guerrero is going to have to play more like his rookie season next year.

Santos never really broke the lineup and between him, Tulio, and Manderson, one of those three is going to have to step into the rotation with gusto next year.

Really good points. We are going to need another pure shooter next year besides Holston. And McMurray likely needs to be the first guard off the bench next year - not a starter. He is too small to play the 2 and has too low of an assist-to-turnover ratio to play the 1.

That's what we are hoping Malik Fitts can add, although I heard of a commit but haven't seen anything about signing an LOI or anything.

But I agree 100%, we need jump shooters that can put it in the net. I think that he may still start because Holston will start slow and Peters is killing us. OR play fast run and gun with Baxter and hope Tulio is athletic enough to keep up and slash...a lot.

I think he's getting all the advice he can handle and probably from much more knowledgable people than me. I'm just evaluating.

Firstly, Holston showed better shooting in the conference (or in other words at the end of the season) at 36% shooting overall 35% from three. Secondly, I'll remind you that he came off the bench for most of the first half of the season for CAJ, splitting time with Dinero, Morillo, CAJ. I of course am not saying that he will be the savior. I am scared by his knee. What I am saying is that having a guy who can get in rhythm and create can do great for us, especially if first off the bench.

Even at the half they mentioned COA really bringing in his own recruits.

AND YES, I am ignoring the 44-32 Temple score right now.

At least Heath made it to and won two NCAA tournament games - in a much tougher conference. COA can't even get to 10 wins in the AAC. He will never win here.

Won the first conference tourney game in program history from what I read though. so there's a win. And we are still fighting in the game from what I hear. Fighting so much we are fouling an awful amount but fighting nonetheless
