  1. Hey, BC Gruber -- We ran a story on the possibility this week. You can find that here: http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/bulls/collins-looking-into-redshirt/2160793 Also, for coaching change and recruiting info it's been on our Twitters: @TBTimes_Bulls and @byjeffodom ... and here, on the site: http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/bulls/will-bulls-possess-a-sturdy-passing-game/2160932 http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/bulls/wulff-officially-named-offensive-coordinator/2160562 Thanks for reading. - Jeff
  2. Freshmen Nate Godwin and Hassan Childs will likely get the start in their place again on Saturday at Rutgers. Both started vs. UCF and played well.
  3. Interesting. Wonder what he means by "this way" and how it relates to the two dismissals. To clarify those tweets, Willie was talking about the recent losing seasons and how he's working to get USF "back to its winning ways" ... Wasn't talking about Joyce and Jenkins' dismissals.
  4. It works like this. Say after a Rays game Todd Kalas asks Joe Maddon a question. A reporter from the Times with a recorder in his hand writes afterwards "When asked if Evan Longoria is an all-star, Joe Maddon said 'yes'". The writer from the Times didn't ask the question but reported it. This is what the writer told us what happened. And no, I'm not a slugger. Didn't get past Little League in baseball. 10-4. Got it. Maybe I'm just missing out on reporter jargon, but there is a big difference between "When asked if..." and "Asked if...", is there not? I suppose grammar and sentence structure may have gotten the better of me in this case. "When asked if CounsinRicky was a slugger, he said he didn't get past little league baseball" (this sounds like someone else asked you) "Asked if CousinRicky was a slugger, he said he didn't get past little league baseball" (this sounds like I asked you) Twitter only allows 140 characters ...
  5. Well said!!! I have been reading more Joey Johnston from the Trib. He is a USF alumn and is not bashing as much. He kind of calls it like it is which is fair. Hopefully the others get better next season as I will give them a one year break being their 1st year covering USF. Just to be fair, and since I'm curious, I'd like to see an example of where either of us have been "bashing" or "disrespecting" the program in any way. Or "created breaking news" for that matter. Once again, it's our job to report on what's going on with the athletic department at USF, whether that's things that are positive, negative or neutral. I'm not sure what more I can say. But, regardless, thanks for reading.
  6. For the record, neither of us asked the questions. It's a circle of reporters that conduct the interviews during practices and we report what each player and coach says. As seen above, I cited the questions asked and the player's response in a quote. Our job is to report what goes on around the team, not to be fans or supporters of any program or organization whether it's USF, or otherwise.
  7. I haven't seen it posted on here, but do any USF fans remember the last time the Bulls played Houston in 2002? I tweeted it out a few minutes ago in my weekly throwback ... The Bulls won 32-14, behind QB Marquel Blackwell's 5 total touchdowns in what would be his final game under center for USF. The win was USF's 9th of the season (4-0 against Conference USA opponents, which USF would join in 2003) and should have propelled them into a bowl. But in the end, they were left out. Jim Leavitt gave many great quotes after that one, from what I've read in our archives. Including this winner: "Maybe I need to run naked through the streets of Tampa with a sign that says we need to go to a bowl." If you're interested, here is the Times' recap from that day. http://www.sptimes.com/2002/11/24/Sports/Bulls_make_case_again.shtml And, as always, I'll take any questions you have about the team on my Twitter: @ByJeffOdom ... Joey Knight will too at @TBTimes_Bulls.
  8. For those that could not make it, here is my recap on our USF Blog at Tampabay.com -- http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/bulls/mens-soccer-seniors-exit-corbett-in-style/2149853
  9. Thank you all for the feedback. As I said before, as always, we definitely appreciate your continued support of our coverage of USF athletics. Without you the readers, we wouldn't be here. Joey Knight and I look forward to continuing the excellent work that Greg did during his nine years on the beat and that includes the continuation of our popular USF Sports Bulletin Blog. Joey has three new stories on there this afternoon with more to come as basketball gets started up. And, as a reminder, if you click the links to stories or blog posts directly from our Twitter feeds, it is free and does NOT count toward your 15-page-per-month limit on TampaBay.com. Thanks again, everyone. If you have any questions about the team, please do not hesitate to ask: @TBTimes_Bulls and @ByJeffOdom.
  10. Hey Bulls 1181, I'm not sure about any additional features since Joey and I are still getting our feet wet. As far as the weekly website chats go, I usually do a Q and A on my Twitter @ByJeffOdom every Sunday morning, answering anyone's questions about the previous days' game or anything in general. I will definitely see if we can bring back the TampaBay.com chats, though.
  11. Greg is the best mentor I've ever had. It was truly a treat working with him. I'll make sure to avoid the pitch forks.
  12. I heard he was also going to buy everyone Corvette's ...
  13. Hey, all. This is Jeff Odom, University of South Florida Bulls beat correspondent with the Tampa Bay Times. I just discovered the board this evening and thought it would be an excellent tool to get thoughts from the fans and to interact more with our readers. As always, Greg Auman, Joey Knight and I appreciate your support of our coverage of USF athletics. You can find us on Twitter: @TBTimes_Bulls and @ByJeffOdom, where we will be happy to answer all of your questions. Thanks for reading, - Jeff
