23 year old walk on with limited football experience. Probably learning english too so there's another difficulty for school purposes. and the sumo experience won't make him ready for dealing with cut blocks or moving laterally to defend the run. I wouldn't expect anything but a scout team body provided he can even get or stay in school.

I'm going to just repeat myself given the unwarranted optimism in this thread.

Yeah, we can't have any of that "unwarranted" optimism.

i don't think Sanjay's projection is unreasonable.

Why should we think anything different?

Well, the guy has the size and strength to play football and is apparently determined to do that. The fact that he was able to make it as a Sumo wrestler, shows that he is not afraid to work hard to achieve his goals. I certainly wouldn't bet against him.

I will. Pick the wager.

Other than size what's he got? Scout team would be great.

People worried about him leaving early for the nfl, etc., is just silly.

Just about every walk-on doesn't make it. So betting that anyone will would be stupid.

Still, a few do pan out.

Time will tell.

Apparently, you have your mind made up on him.

I'm willing to give him a chance. Evidently, Holtz is as well.

Pretty sure Raymond had seen a football before his 20th birthday.

I think it's pretty clear this isn't just some random walk-on. Sorry, but that's just silly. Any time a school recruits a guy that has been a professional athlete and reached the very top of that sport, you're not just bringing on some random walk-on.

Nose tackles don't exactly have a big playbook. This isn't a quarterback, linebacker, defensive back, etc. You're acting like a nose tackle needs to have lived and breathed the sport for a decade in order to know what to do. The guy is a wrestler, and quite literally a man amongst children. Based on what I've seen, the only way he finishes his USF career as JUST a member of the scout team would be if there's an effort/attitude problem. He will play.

Frank Davis from Panama, hardly played any football either when he came here. He ended up playing in the NFL.
