  1.  QB Philip Ely stats at Alabama..

2012 (REDSHIRT FRESHMAN): Has earned playing time as the backup quarterback in six games, completing 3-of-4 passes for 42 yards and a touchdown. Arkansas: Connected on two of his three attempts for 15 yards. Mississippi State: Threw his first career touchdown on a 27-yard pass, his only attempt of the game.

2011 (REDSHIRT): He redshirted during his first year with the Crimson Tide

I don't believe we missed much..red shirted one year and backup the next..  not realy impressed  and he will probably do well in Toledo see plenty of playing time and get an education..     Good luck to him..

  2. We have pre-season games?  Hopefully we can let our first round draft picks play the first couple series, then rest them so they won't get injured for the season.

I refer to pre-season as the first few  non-conference games before our conference games start. A time where players can be on the field to see their reaction to college D1 level football and their ability to step up.

It will be interesting to see how many of our existing players (non-starters) will step up to become starters...I have not seen much info on this..

Our depth has been a problem in the past with some hope our backups will good enough to get playing time. thus lowering the risk of injury the starters and gaining experience for starting in the future.

  3. I am remembering FS in Tallahassee...  They had shirts printed up   with stuff like USF WHO...  let opponents view us  as light weights.

Before we were ranked teams were not UP...once ranked they worked harder.. I hope they underestimate us and we will have a little bit of game time  to fully gell before the conference games start..  If we win all our pre-season games the cat will be out of the bag..

  4. CPR I seriously doubt JB flips. Kid has bought more USF gear in the past few months than anyone I've ever even met and is constantly recruiting for us. Already hold offers from Michigan (who has a top class this year), Wisconsin, Miami, Mizzou, etc. and has never waivered. Kid loves Coach Taggart.

    Fully agree on not flipping.....

IMO He is a smart kid..and settled down/mature..He will not be swayed by the smoke and mirrors..He has faith in Willie Taggart...

  5.

Saw a write upon Steven Bench…I said he can throw on the run in either direction cross shoulder..scramble and run.. need I say more.

Every one else can eat **** with their negative remarks.. I like this guy he will be great and as some else reported in other post we can beat MSU.

I predict we will have our stuff together beat MSU and be in the HIGH LIFE AGAIN..

    Go Bulls

Michigan State is a 7-6 team that lost their all world running back. They're very average at best. Not saying the win means nothing, but this team has a lot of work before, "Living the High Life again."

Amen.  Could not agree with you more...

I believe we have the talent...To me the QB position was so bad I had no hope....

IMO with Steven Bench on board we will have a fighting chance......

Some new offensive guards over 300# to help protect the QB...

A much improved defense (talent)..Aron Lynch etc..

And hope Kennard Swanson as a FB   so much potential..Blocking and running..can fill in on defensive line also if needed.....

and our  existing running backs  a with a new  talented recruit....

    AND NEW COACHES.

IMO the major task  will be to make this team GELL as a team..It appears we are on our way with some of the reports..

The real test will come not as we take an early lead but when we bounce back after 14 points down...and win..

Yes if USF can bounce back....

We will all be sitting there in the 4th quarter knowing USF can have a win with one or two plays..a goal line stance on the half yard line,

A fumble recovery for a touchdown.. ETC....HOPE... and NEVER GIVING UP......

  7. Does not look like USF would be an option...

Depending on what he did, Golson’s options might be limited. John Infante, the former Colorado State compliance officer who writes Bylaw Blog, says that if Golson is leaving school because of an academic violation, then he no longer will be in good academic standing, and will be ineligible to play next year at any major college, or to have a scholarship. His best option might be to pay his own way to a junior college and then try to get back to a major team.

  8. someone tweeted this so not sure if accurate or not  so  not taking any responsibility...plausable considering the timing..

Everett Golson dismissed from Notre Dame for cheating on Finals. If he were at Alabama, he'd still be there. He'd just be 'suspended'

  9. Placed 62 among QB nation wide??????   12 tds 6 interceptions  187 comp for 318 attempts

looks like he would be a get but not sure...I like Bench...This will be interesting to follow...

sooner or later the reason will be clear..

Golson was 187 of 318 passing, a 58.8 completion rate, with 12 touchdown passes and six interceptions as the Irish went 12-1 last season, losing 42-14 loss to Alabama in the championship game. He had a pass efficiency rating of 131.01, placing him 62nd among quarterbacks nationwide. But after a year of quarterback controversy a year earlier, Golson was locked in as the starter for the upcoming season until the news broke Saturday.

So look at the talent... 21 carries 5.1 avg with two td's   think about physical conditioning..
on defense 10 sacks in 11 games a fumble recovery and a blocked punt...

look at his 46 tackles ... 12 thrown for a loss

This guy is a power house...I can't find stats on speed...He sure looks like power runner to me.

If there is no hole he will make one...

    Can't wait till fall...

  11. For all you doubters out there...

The keys winning are not 11 players.. You win by many factors..luck is one  if you are not lucky you need talent, conditioning...etc..

    and SMART COACHING...

As a real stupid example take a 155 safety and put him on the offensive line  and take a 320#  OL man and make him into a safety..

    Get my drift...

Steven Bench is talented..He might of been #2 or #3  because of the offensive playbook of Penn State...It might not have been the BEST FIT.

I  DEEPLY BELIEVE WILLIE T IS SMART AND CAN SPOT TALENT...BUT MORE HE  KNOWS THE GAME AND WILL TAILOR OUR GAME TO OUR ASSETS...WE WILL WIN..

If you look at his recruiting..... he is going after ATHLETES...recruits that can play more than one position...WHY because we lack depth..Athletes are used to fill holes  due to injuries etc..

Kennard Swanson is a prime example He played on both sides.. Defensive line and RB...what an asset...Willie T took a chance  (GAMBLED A SCHOLARSHIP..THAT WAS OPEN) and lt lookes like he will be on campus this fall.

When I see these types of actions I have high hopes for out season next year...

My glass is way more than half  full...I think we might be able to win eight games next year...  With Steven Bench at QB my major concern right now has been addressed. Do we need a solid back up QB yes...but we have what we have and that situation will be addressed

Do we need some more talent you bet  ya.  but under this situation  I feel 1000% better that our last game last season.

    Go Bulls

  12. Kennard Swanson went both ways last year..

Lake Gibson landed five players on the Class 6A team, including first-team selection Kennard Swanson on the defensive line. The 6-foot, 250-pound senior recorded 61 tackles with 11 sacks while helping the Braves to the District 10 championship and a 10-1 season....

So he can hit and hit hard..

on his running attemps  not many but averaged 5,6 yards...

He can block and  run  6,0' 250 lbs...Looks like a athlete and  versitle...IMO he will be a big asset to USF..

    Go Bulls

  13.

Wait up on the cheers for a bit, Bulls.

I asked Greg directly about Swanson, and Greg said he would check into it. That was during the last live chat.

(The crystal ball says, "check back later.")

I'm sure we'd have heard something by now. 1 month before freshman report and HS classes have ended for seniors.

You mean unlike when the day classes started Kamran Joyer was rejected?  Until their butts are in a classroom seat I'm not believing it.

If his test scores are ok then I feel good about it.

His coach is mentoring him and showing him the opportunity he has open to him..Some times it just takes  one spark to ignite the fire.....Sounds like he is hitting th books..

Just remeber the movie THE BLIND SIDE...It can happen with dedication and drive..

    Go Bulls

  14.

how is it not still QB?

Bench is a true sophomore thats completed something like 2 passes.

He's a good option man  like BJ Daniels..He will work out fine...With a good running game we will not have to pass on every down..it will keep the defense honest...and open up the quick  short pass to the flats and over the middle..and a rare   hail mary to the end zone..We will have our trick plays back..and the excitement...

That is a heck of an assumption.  The questions at RB are similar to QB.

Agree 100 % I'm counting  on Kennard Swanson in on this and starting next fall.....If he is unavailable   our running game would be impacted....
