  1. Locked in an AirBnB a couple of blocks south of the river. It's close enough to downtown for a cheap Uber or scooter ride. The hotels are crazy expensive. Nearly $300/night to stay at the Marriott Courtyard Austin聽馃憥 Flights are hovering around $260 RT from TPA > AUS. See you guys there.

I never said the previous coaches did...although CCS had (1) 4 star recruit in this class. Im just noticing people are praising every move CJS makes and some of the moves getting praised are nothing to brag about lol聽

It is, and it isn't about CJS.

Evaluate the big picture, and the future trajectory.

Edit: Not sure if you're on twitter. If not, you've missed the flood of tweets @CJS/Athletics/Football/Mkelly from many聽enthusiastic fans excited about renewing/buying season tickets--IN JANUARY.聽This IS something worth bragging about because, again, we don't typically see this sort of reaction from fans. It's a good thing, be happy and optimistic!

Funny joke, but lets not act like we didnt lose mad recruits. Lets also not act like CJS is bringing in a bunch of 4/5 star recruits either. He brought in 4 transfers that didnt get any playing time and a bunch of recruits that was rated lower than CCS recruits. Im actually estatic about the players he brought in, but on paper he hasnt done nothing extravagent. Im happy we have CJS but let the man earn his praise.聽 Also just b/c somebody was a fans of the previous coaches doesnt mean that they hate or dislike CJS.

Let's not pretend聽any聽of the previous coaches routinely landed 4-5 star players over the last 15 years. And, even with highly-rated recruiting classes/players...*leans in and whispers*...we still haven't won a conference championship.

Bottom line: Michael Kelly inherited a poorly organized grassroots effort doing anything possible to keep people interested in USF football. Winning is great, but the other part of the equation is has been missing for a very long time: engagement.聽

Winning is CJS's job, and I agree, we need to see results (obvs). Engagement is a joint effort between CJS/Athletics/Alum/Students/Community..etc. True USF football success will be determined on how well these pieces come together, so far, we're on the right track.

If that were true, at the very least, he wouldn't bother with actual attendance numbers ...

Our local newspaper writers, Fennelly and Jones, are habitually聽bad-mouthing a top 20,聽undefeated USF football team and you're worried about reported attendance figures that Joey didn't use?

  5. Joey Knight shouldn't be in anyone's聽cross-hairs聽since he's a proven聽friend to USF.

Yes, it would be nice if all breaking news came through our well-liked USF beat writer--but that's not the world we live in today and to think otherwise is flat-out wrong.

Twitter feeds,聽TBP forum posts...etc聽does not make it into printed news media that people in our community read on a daily basis. Right, what's that thing we need so badly, again? Isn't community buy-in on that list? Thought so.

Joey does what he can to advocate for USF Athletics and those efforts should not be disregarded, even when he's not the guy that breaks a story. Who cares anyway.

If anyone needs to be 'critiqued' and/or motives聽questioned...it should be Martin Fennelly and Tom Jones.

What's Doug doing these days? Harlan is just clueless when it comes to basketball hiring imo. I hope I'm wrong but I don't think Gregory is half the coach Heath was. I'm go nna wait and see what his assistants look like but Bartow would have been a better hire since Gregory is the best a sorry AD like Harlan can do.聽

Hey Doug, hope you're enjoying retirement. It'd be appreciated if you trolled the UCF board instead of TBP.

    Thanks

  7. The push to fill the 'downtime' with loud, crappy music is far more apparent compared to yesteryears. Sad part is (aside from the crap selection) that the soundboard operator has zero coordination with the HOT band, often resulting in the HOT being caught in friendly-fire.

Its ridiculous and no other team(I've visited anyway) pumps the music so aggressively.

Let the band handle the music.

  8. Forgive my ignorance, as I am not privy on the printed-media business--but the most sense I can make of a local newspaper is to cover the local stories and sports organizations first (60-75%?) and then regional and national news stories after that?聽

I don't think anyone is asking the Times to print daily stories about the Bulls, the issue I have is the same as the OP's--I don't want to see the Gators, FSU, Hurricanes, the Tide...etc with big bold print on the top of the sports section Sunday morning. Just like readers won't want to see stories about the Dolphins in the Monday morning edition.

It SHOULD be the Lightning, Buccanneers, Bulls..etc--everyone else should be secondary whether the readers are concerned or not.

If people want to read about the Gators, then they need to subscribe to the Gainesville Sun.

I still think the atmosphere would be better. We need a smaller stadium on campus. We are a victim of being a young program, it takes time to build a fanbase. Trust me the Gators, FSU etc had their attendance issues when they first started, things will improve.聽If those fans聽really liked USF they could go to Disney another weekend...we only have 7 (hopefully 8) home games, schedule around the games. They could also give away their tickets if they really couldn't go. As for RJS being too far or hard to find...I agree that's a lie.聽

That's not the way most people think, or prioritize their weekend. Only the passionate fans prioritize spending their fall Saturdays with the Bulls.

There's nothing to do in Tallahassee, there's nothing to do in Gainesville, just like there's nothing to do in Lincoln, NE outside of going to the football game.

    We have the opposite problem.

I think a lot of the problem with the atmosphere is the stadium itself. The large club areas and plazas are a major problem. We need a 40k stadium with a smaller club area, making people stay in their seats. Having a stadium on campus also greatly improves the atmosphere.聽聽

Maybe, but doubtful. USF is a victim of our own surroundings--there are too many 'other' things to do instead of come out to the game.

Real-life example, two different couples who were at the FSU game...today, one couple chose to visit Disney World, the other couple is on the way to Gainesville to watch the Gators.

I never bought the "RJS is too far away/hard to find" and this just solidifies that thought.
