    Sheee-iit Doc....

I think ah may have head that befoah....Ah think we problee gonnah be as green as grasss this yeah....Graduation left the cubbahd bare.  Worse than even ole' Mothah Hubbahd...

    You follow me?

    Exactly.    :D

    Doc

P.S.  Seeing you here, Jay, reminds me of something I've been wanting to do but keep forgetting   It will happen this afternoon.

What in tarnation is going on here?  Who let these fireflies in this here conversation?

I'm glad to know my wife's North Florida, south Georgia family finally came in handy.

  2. Did he drop his tray when they handed it to him?

    That's pretty funny, actually...

He doesn't seem the type to wow the media with his answers (Johnny Manziel) but he did have a quiet resolve about him, though...

He seemed like he was honored to be approached by a Buls fan, and talked about how he came to USF because he admired Holtz ("it was Holtz who got me to USF" was his actual quote from the Taggart question)...

  3. ...and I see this man wearing a USF Football shirt.  I'm wearing mine that says USF Alumni and say, "I love your shirt!" to which he replies, "I like yours as well."  I mention that I'm excited for football season to start and he says that he is too and that his nephew plays for USF.

He gestures toward his nephew who is about 6'2" and looks like a football player and very familiar.  Then, the man says, "He plays quarterback."

It was Matt Floyd texting like a madman on his phone.  I got a chance to ask Matt some questions:

    1)   How is learning the new system coming?  It's definitely different than Coach Holtz's but it's coming well.

    2)  How do you feel about the new transfer quarterback coming in?  Just fine.  (nervous twitching)

    3)  How's the team responding to Coach Taggart?  Good.  We are exercising a lot, and he's a nice guy.

He then signed a menu for my son with a green crayon and we got our food and headed out.

Question I wished I had asked him:  Why did you fumble so many times during the Spring Game?

As we left, my son said "Go Bulls" to him and he said, "Go Bulls" back to him.

Here in Brevard County, we don't get many football players, but am looking forward to seeing the team Aug. 17th in Vero...

  4. I think the comment about Luke playing 70 snaps a game was very telling.  Last year's D-Coordinator (what was his name again?????) was in over his head adapting to what schemes we already run.

I, too, am excited for football season.  With a relatively young secondary, I am nervous about their inability to cover over the middle and the dump passes (not so concerned about the deep balls), but am very intrigued by the variation schemes...

  5. Not only that, but illiterate interns can't spell "straight" either.

"Striaght" free throws? Let's get it together, people...

It's pretty stupid to think that they really don't know how to spell. Someone needs to be proofing this stuff for typos and such before its released.

But the fact remains, we look highly unprofessional when we continually release things with typos, mistakes and oversights.

I'm sure you guys take the time to proofread all those legit athletic department releases for comparisons sake.

surprised you didn't catch UF (I'm sure you consider them legit) when they put a crocodile on the cover of their media guide one year.

yeah no other athletic department makes mistakes especially on an email release....

That does not dispute the fact that this is unacceptable. We are not talking about other athletic departments -- we are talking about ours. We should stop comparing ourselves to other people as a standard and strive for our own perfection no matter what the cause. Sports, promos, academics -- doesn't matter.

it's unacceptable to make a typo? yikes. must be nice being so perfect yourself.

It's comments like this that drive me insane...

Why was it necessary to add the "must be nice being so perfect yourself?" Note that the beginning of each sentence was not capitalized and therefore three mistakes, but I digress...

No, I am not perfect. However, I do take the time to look over what I type for the public to read. That is what this department continually does. If we want a big time product, it's the little things that matter.

There is no one checking over things in the athletic department, spelling or otherwise -- or if there is, they should take more pride in their work.

  7. On one of the Ball State blogs (Over the Pylon), one of the articles described the author's realization that, for the first time he could remember, he felt like Ball State expected to beat Indiana instead of hoping to beat Indiana. The article was well-written with plenty of inside information on Ball State's past.

Sadly, we have reversed. In these past few seasons, our fans hoped to win instead of expected to win. To some extent, I believe our players are there as well. They hope to fill the gaps on defense and hope that their offense makes mistakes. They hope their defense misses tackles and makes penalties. They hope their special teams miss blocks and fumble the ball or lose their concentration.

I've written before how the team doesn't seem inspired -- how we seem to be missing that spark, that Leader on the field. I am one of those "over 40" year-olds who went to USF before a football team begun. I know how it feels to not have a team to root for and have to settle on one of the "Big Three." But now, I have a team I can believe in and cheer raucously when we pull off the unbelievable (Nevada) and mope and yell at the TV when we lose (Ball State).

I love being a USF Bull.

I loved it last week when Daniels pushed the defender down by his helmet as he ran up the sideline. I loved it when Murray ran over people in the first drive. I loved it when Freakshow jumped over the defenders and took away the ball.

In 2009, I was in the stands with tickets bought by an FSU fan (my wife's uncle, a HUGE FSU fan, bought two tickets for us for the game) and I loved it when Nate Allen punished wide receivers coming over the middle and outside the first down marker. I loved it when Lamar out-juked FSU safeties enroute to a long gain. I loved it when Daniels saw the entire field and made great decisions. I loved it when our offensive line kept their D-line frustrated all day by making them run in place. I loved it that the coaching staff used the talents of the players and made FSU chase us all day.

We expected to beat FSU that day.

I was never more proud to be a Bull than that day (and that includes beating #5 WVU which I was in the stands for as well).

For this game, and for the first time in a long time, I expect Lejiste to lay another smack on a running back just bursting through the hole. I expect Giddens to be in the backfield harrassing Manuel. I expect Popek to manhandle their DE. I expect Murray, Lamar and Shaw to hit the holes with power and attitude. I expect Cosh, Fitch, Holtz and crew to take this game personally and wipe out any doubts about their abilities.

I expect there to be a packed house of green and gold shouting loud enough to be in FSU's ear all night long, even after the game.

I expect a win Saturday night.
