  1. Masiello, who has two years left on his initial five-year contact with Manhattan, was scheduled to meet with school officials in Riverdale on Monday night, with Manhattan hoping to extend the deal of one of the fastest rising stars in the coaching ranks, according to a source familiar with the situation.

Manhattan athletic director Noah LeFevre told The Post after the loss to Louisville he believes Masiello will be back in The Bronx next season.

“I’m not just confident because I’m confident,†LeFevre said. “I’m confident because we’re dedicated in doing everything that we can to have him be a member of the Manhattan community for many years to come. I fully anticipate Coach being our coach well into the future, meaning beyond his existing contract.â€

But Masiello, 36, isn’t planning on leaving his native New York anytime soon.

“I feel very confident that I will be back at Manhattan College as the coach and I look forward to working with a great group of young men that are returning,†Masiello told The Post on Friday. “This is where I want to be. I want to be in New York. I want to be with these kids. I’m really excited about the future of this program.â€

Masiello, who has two years remaining on a five-year contract he signed upon taking his first head-coaching position in 2011, said he has had informal extension talks with the school, but he didn’t want to get involved in negotiations while the season was going on. He plans on meeting with the school next week to go over the details of a new deal.

New Manhattan athletic director Noah LeFevre didn’t want to discuss the specifics of an extension, but said he doesn’t anticipate a problem in the two sides reaching an agreement.

Though bigger schools could be calling, Masiello believes the Jaspers will soon be annually referred to as one of the best mid-major programs in the country.

“I don’t see there being a ceiling to this job,†said Masiello. “I think, where we are right now, in the next four years, we could get to two Sweet 16’s. That’s how I feel. We’re right there. We’re on the cusp.â€

Any coach who says they are committed to staying usually ends up leaving...

  2. My wife and I were vacationing in Vegas and took a day trip to Los Angeles / Hollywood.  A staffer gave us tickets to the Craig Ferguson show and one of the guests was a Marine Biology professor from USF because of Shark Week.  I was wearing my USF alumni polo and I won the chance to meet Craig Ferguson and in my excitement of winning, I told him I was proud because I am a USF alumni and he had a professor from my alma mater on his show.

From the back row, I hear a "Go Bulls!" shout out and in my natural response, much to the shock of Craig Ferguson, I shout out "Go Bulls!" and throw up the horns.  Stunned, Craig jokingly says, "Security!" and the audience laughed.

Fortunately, I usually get a response when I say "Go Bulls!"

  3. When Allen is running things the offense looks great. We can score.  If we could shoot to go along with the D, we could be very good.

A 45% FG, 75% FT, 31% 3pt shooting USF bball team would win alot of games.

If USF had outside shooting they are a 25 win team. Their lack of shooting is why they have to have success attacking on offense either after a miss or make from the opponent. When teams can set their defense against USF, it's going to rough going for our Bulls. That's why we have to always rush into the offensive end as quickly as possible to attempt to exploit a defense that isn't set yet. If it's not there then be smart enough to pull it back out and run the offense.

USF came back from down 17 by shooting layups and getting to the FT line. This is our offense for the time being unless Hawkins and Aleem can start proving to be outside threats.

You mean, if we had an offense we would win more games? That sounds vaguely familiar... I wonder if that would work in any other sports...

That being said, reading the game on this message board was very exciting. Brings back the old days of listening to games on the radio (not that I would remember those days)....
