I guess I could lie and say that I never thought BJ was the problem, but I did, and I was wrong.  We had just beaten Notre Dame and then, when things started to unravel, he was the easiest target.  I was done, I was just tired of the excuses and " of course" if we could just get a better quarterback then things would be better.  It was hard to criticize CSH after the Notre Dame game, but it became much easier as the season went on.  I did fall prey to some of the "group think" about BJ.  Just looking to assign blame I guess.

At any rate.  I find it unsettling that I am still thinking the same thing "If we can just find a better QB things will be fine".   I need therapy.

I did.  I never saw that win as the start of something great.  If you look back at posts I made shortly after the game, I knew it was a fluke and that Notre Game gave that game away.

Actually, it was the start of something kind of great ..... we won the next 3 games by an average margin of 37 points. The rest of the year was kind of like the opener (so not really a fuke?), with 4 of the 7 losses being by 3 points, with an average of 5 points being the difference in 6 of the 7. Not downplaying a win over a ranked ND team, @ South Bend, no matter what the circumstances was not wearing g&g goggles at the time, IMO .... and the rest of the season bore that out.

It was the start of something great?  Then 3 games later we played Pitt and won 1 more game that entire season.  And then was the next season... we went 3-9.  I don't see how that was the start of something great.  To me that was one of the most depressing seasons we've had because that team should have been much better.  They made zero improvement from the year previous.  They got worse.  I'm not sure how that started something special... unless you're referring to the all of the losses that would ensue.  It was great if you were a school playing against USF.... not so great for us.

I thought the same thing.  I watched the Notre Dame game and was ecstatic we won... but that keep it in front of you defense and passive play was too much.  I saw that we were outmanned at the start.  Look at the game, they had  a clear physical advantage, we caught Kelly his first year and those guys just over thought it.  I remember those long chunk runs.  Turnovers killed us.  Our offense was terrible, we had zero running game.  It was literally all BJ and turnovers from the Leavitt guys.  It wasn't like we were beating them, they were beating themselves.

BJ played as well as he could.  The oline stunk that game up too.  We should thank their first half QB Crist for that win.

  3. Did anyone ask him about his consistently poor in-game decision making? Or did they sugar coat it? Wonder if they have the balls to ask Taggart what his expectations are for the season? Why be down when you're making $1M+ a season and you're always able to blame the previous regime for your troubles? How much worse do things need to get before he gets shown the door? It's not his first rodeo - so the learning process should have been a lot quicker with Team #2. We are in a miserable conference with very little talent - there's no reason why he can't have a team competing for a conference championship this season. Anything else should be considered a complete underachievement.

It's funny... Taggart took over a 3-9 team that was falling.  I bet you were a Holtz fan because those are the only people who don't actually realize who ruined it.  When they win this year, you're welcome to go to Orlando and be at knats fan.

Hopefully the execution will be there, but I am guessing we will cut down on the delay of game penalties because the play clock runs out while taggart is only half way through calling the play.

Those days of are done.  This isn't Harbaughs system, this is Taggarts. It's fun to harp on, but it has no bearing on this season.

Definitely isn't Taggart's system. He's only run the power run his entire career, he's taking from somewhere else and learning on the fly basically. It'll be nice to see the defense get tired on the field and not have a chance if we are able to put the new offense together correctly.

This is a power run spread... you realize this is not a pass spread.  It's an up tempo power spread that was designed based on what he ran at Manatee with a twist.  So it is HIS system.  That's like saying the Harbaugh system was not his, it was in actuality Bill Walsh system because he came up with the west coast offense.  Hopefully the offense will keep the ball and not have a ton of 3 and outs.... that has been a huge problem going back to 2012.

No, this is Kinnan's offense.  As Kinnan says "we keep taking things out".  The Taggart system was too complicated.

It's Taggarts system.  It's not identical to what he did at Manatee... that's like saying Auburns system is Kinnans too... it's ridiculous and petty that you can't give the guy any credit for the changes he's actually making.  Says a lot actually.

Brett Kean will save the day. Once the receivers see how superior a passer he is, in addition to his 4.7 speed, he will win over the team in August, ball during our last scrimmage and win the starting job. He is just str8 up better then Bench and Flowers.

he will get his chance because   the  other eligible qbs  stink

I recall you saying how bad BJ Daniels sucked... actually I recall an instance where you said he basically had a snowballs chance in hell of making the NFL as a qb.  Still think that?

Towards the end I think most thought that BJ was the problem.

I never thought that.  I knew what the problem was and I never thought it was BJ.  I still remember me and Stevie Oneal defending the guy over on Greg's old blog.

That seems to be the most detailed info I have found. Couple that with some of the other comments and it seems he will have the headsets on talkimg to the coaches on gameday.

The more plugged in he is the better. We need more people who know how to win involved with our team.

I am of the mind that this speaks volumes for Taggart. I mean he's going through the bumps a young coach goes through, but to his credit he made some really good moves to get this thing back on track. What he's lacked, he has surrounded himself with. It's not easy to get a guy like Kinnan, whether he coached you or not. I remember the lack of relationship that existed between he and Holtz. I like the change in philosophy and staff additions. I've always liked the talent.

Agreed. I made the same point at the end of last season when he cleaned house. Some thought he made a mistake getting rid of Bres and the others... we will find out soon enough...

Yes we will.  I'm actually excited about this season!

And that game also really exposed the lack of depth. One of the hottest games I've ever been to and people were dropping like files.

Also, was that was the year when Skip said he didn't want "BJ running as much as he had been in the past?  I never understood that.

It spoke more to the fact to where he thought the QBs were behind BJ if he got hurt at that point in the season.

But at that time I recall people actually believing the QBs behind Daniels, were in fact better than him.  Now i always believed that  to be silliness... just like I do with Flowers... but I dont think telling a qb who made a living running, to not run.  That actually got him injured that year.. imo  He was less inclined to run like the past and the offense needed it.

All joking aside, I think to some people the roster is just a bunch of names.  They don't actually know anything at all about the individual players.  Even the ones who played last season, just not as much.  I'd guess some didn't know Eric Lee started last season...  Or that James Hamilton started more games and played more than Senat.  It's weird, just based on some comments I don't think some actually know the team.  They know the games they saw last year... and a few of last years names... but nobody else.  Like Mazzi... I'm sure people are wondering why he moved up so quickly... or that he's actually the best cover guy on the team.  Just little things.

  11. Not to be a **** but... does anyone actually know the defensive roster... or the roster at all?  The complete roster... Like the guys who redshirted and those who did see time?  Because sometimes... just based on some of the responses... I don't believe a few people do.  Like if I say Juan Brown... what comes to mind?  What if I asked who is Benji Knox or how a player with the last name Antione?  I mean I'm just trying to get a feed on how well some people actually know the team.  I know the guys from the the TOS and recruiting boards do... well sometimes... but here... here I just wonder about a couple of people.  What are they basing their opinion on.

Might I remind everyone that the last time we played FAMU, we scored 70 points and had 745 yards of offense.

I'd actually be pretty surprised if we have below 500 yards of offense.  This should be the highest scoring game of the year for USF O.  We scored 36 against a much better FCS team last year, so we'll score at least 45 or so against FAMU.

The rest of the year, who knows.

and your five (5) answers to the five (5) questions are?

hahahahaha that was great.    He never got to that I guess.

  14. Honestly we have an extremely athletic qb in Flowers, an extremely athletic set of rbs (Mack and D'Ernest),

A year and a half ago when GEOGIA SOUTHERN beat Florida they didnt complete ONE PASS (WHICH IS WHAT OUR OFFENSE LOOKS LIKE) but they beat Florida 26-20. I feel if we implemented some of their offense we could at least put points on the board right away.

What do you think? Sounds practical and like it could work here and work well

I believe there is actually a package that contains the triple option in this offense.  I remember someone mentioning it.

  15. I think we'll miss Calloway, but I think we will see the emergence of players like Hector, Senat, Bronson and Gonzales.  I think this could be one of the best defenses in the conference.  I think having Hill back is huge, that gives us another big athletic DE who can stop the run and rush the passer.  Lee, Hill, Love, Mayes, Bronson,... I mean we have some big DEs who can get after it.  The other speed rush ends/LB Hybrid should be really good also.  There is should be pretty good depth and experience there.

I think the secondary will get at it.
