The mother of two-way Jesuit standout Travis Johnson told the Times on Tuesday she believes Missouri is her son's top choice following his de-commitment to the University of Miami.

A lifelong 'Canes fan, Johnson, projected as a tight end in college, reopened his recruitment Tuesday via Twitter by saying: "Decommitting from the University of Miami. Opening up my recruiting up (sic)."

Angela Hardy-Jones said her son's change of heart was mutual. Miami is facing looming NCAA sanctions in the wake of a rogue booster's claims he provided illegal benefits to dozens of 'Canes athletes and recruits for nearly a decade.

Additionally, Hardy-Jones said her recent attempts to reach two UM coaches instrumental in Johnson's recruiting have been futile.

"It was mutual," she said. "He saw the writing on the wall. He knew (potential NCAA punishment) was coming. Honestly, (the coaches) didn't even return my email. That's not good."

Hardy-Jones said she's expecting her son to make an official visit to Missouri after the NCAA's "dead period" for recruiting ends on Jan 3. He's slated to unofficially visit USF's campus Wednesday following a math final exam.

Deemed the nation's No. 3 tight end/H-back prospect by ESPN, Johnson's numbers dipped his senior year, when Jesuit was forced to resort to a run-oriented approach. He finished with 21 catches for 287 yards and two TDs.

  2. So so so glad that I'm not the only who can't stand DUImeg!!!

It has nothing to do with him constantly putting USF and its fans down, but just his take on sports in general!!

I was at a Hooter's and unfortunately 620 had him there doing a live broadcast. That guy was the biggest douche to people that wanted to talk to him during commericals and after his show was done. He was acting like he was some sort of big named celebrity.

How people listen to this guy's show is baffling!

I tried to listen to his interview with Coach T, but couldn't take the I like USF facade he was putting up.

  3. Nice write up on Randy Shannon at the Miami Herald's FSU blog (advocating for FSU to pick up Shannon as DC). The post is from late November, but is still relevant with respect to USF's DC search.

    http://miamiherald.t...non-had-mi.html

Really, really want this to happen! For that reason, it probably won't.

I personally would love to have Shannon as the DC. I grew up in South Florida and my father is a UM Alum, so I have been one too, since birth. He might have been a bad HC, but that man is one hell of a DC and recruits his butt off. I still cheer for DA U, unless they're playing my BULLS cause I now bleed GREEN & GOLD!

  4. The statement below is from USF AD Doug Woolard:

"The Big East has 13 strong members moving forward together. We will have an excellent league in football, basketball and all other sports, and our programs will compete at the very highest level of intercollegiate athletics."

    http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/blog/dennis-dodd/21292915/big-east-deal-could-be-worth-as-little-as-60-million-per-year

I didn't major in math. In 2015, after Navy joins, the BE will have 15 football schools that's 15 (currently 13) teams splitting 60 million versus the Pac-12 splitting 250 million between 12 schools.

How would USF or any other school in the BE hope to compete with such a difference of income?

And before you go there, I DO NOT let me say it again DO NOT know how much the BE is going to get for it's new TV deal. Just posting a link for an article I read. I'm currently searching for links to other that had the dollar amount of the new BE TV deal to be around the same.

  5. They still think that the BE is a viable conference that is going to get a lucrative TV deal and be “on-par†with the other big conferences.

Do you have a source, or is this more of the same "I haven't specifically heard who Judy Genshaft is meeting with, so that means she must be doing nothing" idiocy? (Disclaimer: I already know the answer to my question.)

    http://www.tampabay....ational-success

    http://www.tampabay....a-judy-genshaft

I believe it's the 3rd question from GA

So does that mean you don't have a source? Because I don't see anything that says what you claimed they said. I see no speculation about the value of the Big East's television contract, nothing about being "on-par" with anything else, nothing but boring, predictable coachspeak about USF's "great future" and such.

Here's the third question from Greg:

Q: What is going on with the Big East, the future of the Big East, the future for you guys?

A: "The Big East is all about opportunity. We're a national league right now. We've got a lot of teams there. It's been very difficult to answer what's going to be in the future, because it's dominos. One league takes another and it goes back and forth. As of now, we're really happy with the Big East. We've got one of the best basketball programs ever. We've got Madison Square Garden for the next 8 to 10 years. It's pretty exciting. We're bringing on some good teams: Boise and Navy will be coming in. It's going to be good."

Plenty of disclaimers there that they don't, in fact, know what the future of the Big East is.

I'm not going to argue with you on a message board......I said they THINK keyword is THINK that the BE is a viable conference. I never quouted anyone. I personally put "on-par" in quotes and if you mistook that as me quoting them, I apologize.

Also, if you are so privy to insider info, let's have it. People on this board are just as bad, if not worse, than the media. With the "sources and insider info"

However, the statement below is from USF AD Doug Woolard:

"The Big East has 13 strong members moving forward together. We will have an excellent league in football, basketball and all other sports, and our programs will compete at the very highest level of intercollegiate athletics."

The national preception from ESPN, to yahoo sports, to CBS sports and so on is that the BE is a step below the other BIG 5 conferences

  7. We needed a new strength coach. Or at least a new training program/routine. Our guys got manhandled all the time last year.

I wonder if Ronnie McKeefery would come back? I highly doubt it, but it would be nice to have him back. Our guys seem to be more physical and in better shape/conditioning under him than Golden.

  8. if this is true i would fire him now

there must be a clause in contract that would allow usf to get out of contract

this undermines the program and the school

but woollard and prez have zero backbone and poor judgment

    Agreed

If I was AD Woolard, my first phone call this morning would be to Coach T. If any of this is true, he would be fired immediately. I honestly believe that he might have interviewed before accepting the job at USF, but I don’t see him leaving 2 weeks after being hired. I don’t know the man personally, but everything I’ve read seems to me that he wouldn’t do something like this, I hope I’m not wrong.

However, I am not the AD and as you guys said, he and Judy have shown that they are pretty inept at their jobs and oblivious to what’s going on at the FBS level (conference realignment).

They still think that the BE is a viable conference that is going to get a lucrative TV deal and be “on-par†with the other big conferences.

  9. This might have already been addressed, but I'm going to be lazy and not look through 5 pages and 80 something posts; why in the hell do you guys want to build a cheap OCS?????

USF needs to build a first class OCS, PERIOD!!

It will help us with the "commuter school" tag, that I don't agree with, that outsiders have placed on USF.

I also think it will change the way alumni and current students look at the program, but the last thing we need is a cheap OCS, like that clown college to the east.

  10. As a RB hoping to get to the next level, I'd give Pitt a long look. We haven't produced an NFL RB in...ever?...

We've produced Andre Hall. If you really want to push it, we could maybe take half credit for Chad Simpson, but he transferred from USF then made it to the NFL after that.

I think if we get the right guy, all that will change under Coach T.

I'm curious to see how Bradley Battles fairs under Coach T. The few times we've seen BB over the past couple of seasons, he has that hard nose, physical running style.

For some reason he just hasn't been able to crack the two deep......three deep for that matter.

  11. The TCU defense was 35th in the nation in pts against (not awful but not stellar).

There were some ****** defensive games for the frogs (gave up 56 to TTU, 49 to Baylor), but some solid moments too (holding Kstate to 23, OU to 24).

21 picks, 2 of which were scores.

(edit) BUT, he is only the LB coach. He was not responsible for the whole defense. Gotta love the 21 picks, but can the man run an entire defense?

He was the DC, when Miami won the NC in 2001

Had players like Sean Taylor, Vince Wilfork, Jonathon Vilma, DJ Williams, Ed Reed, Philip Buchanon, Jerome McDougale

  12. Bulls247 @Bulls247

Skip Holtz's staff let go. Was told they'd individually interview for their job, but got canned before their interviews took place.

Guys, I am not happy about this. WTF Willie.

The more I think about this the more pissed I am.

Why? Who should Coach T have kept? I could see keeping Coach Patrick, maybe.

He likes a physical run game, that's not Fitch's style as the OC.

Shank's oline got man-handle against some of the better BCS teams we played.

No explanation needed as to Cosh and Smith getting the pink slip.

Special teams and DE were bad so that's why VH2 is gone.

  13. Had a good year with TY Hilton..that is it.

Would be a bad hire IMO

I agree, there was talk about FIU looking to get rid of him!

We are no Alabama or Notre Dame, but I think we are better program then hiring a Sun Belt Conference coach that was and-or is on the hot seat.

If he won multiple conference titles that would be a whole difference story.

  14. Is he a good recruiter? I heard or read somewhere that he's not great with that, not many catches to his name, anyone know?

He got VH3 and Sheritt to come play D for him, those are just 2 big names from the bay area.

I would have to look up thier current recruiting class to see who else is committed.

    http://rivals.yahoo.com/florida/football/recruiting/commitments/2013;_ylt=AgszgMpd Y3ysPRxMZ8UBlTNBir5B4?view=moredata

Looks like he was in on getting 4 star WR, 4 star LB, 4 star DT and possible more.....All of the current comments don't have info under the "recruited by" column

  15. He has done a good job at WKU, but hiring a guy just so we can get recruits from his old high school seems a little crazy to me!

The current coach at Manatee should be ashamed of himself for black balling USF, what Holtz did was by no means acceptable, but not allowing any of your kids to sign with USF could be doing them a huge disservice! He's suppose to have their best interest in mind not forbidding them to go to a school cause one guy got his scholarship offers taken away. Again, I'm not trying to defend what Holtz did to that kid.

Name a big name guy that chose WKU over USF.......
