Reading through the various threads yesterday and today, there isn't a bulletin board big enough to hold all the material for the Bulls locker room today.

It should be an interesting game. When the SU offense clicks, it really does look pretty decent, but the defense is nothing special. Their QB does a good job of operating a hurry offense with reliable throws to short route targets.

I think we win, but I feel a lot less confident about the bet I made on this game than the one I placed on the NIU game.

Perfect demonstration of the difference of the media covering USF and UCF. This article uses a Bianchi quote extolling UCF and Orlando and then juxtaposes that with Tom Jones' fecal fest about our attendance.

I thought this was a good article, as well, when I was reading it. Agree completely on the difference.

I'm no lawyer, but I would think ESPN would have to be careful if they do that.  They might be heading into anti-trust issues.

I don't think any antitrust claim would have legs. While their actions are certainly anti-competitive, it would be trumped by the lowered ESPN subscription numbers and growing options on the sports fronts with NBC and FOX increasing their sports offerings.

It'd be a hard sell, imo.

[Edit] I mean, even Qatar is getting into the game with beIN SPORTS... lots of options coming -- especially on the digital front.

I can see the ESPN spin machine now... reporting on back room deals, the "weakness" of the Big XII, the fact that a UT and/or OU departure is imminent, the "dilutive" effect of any new school (including UH), etc. The Big XII would collapse within a few years.  That's ESPN's MO.

Yep. In some ways, it would be even easier than the Big East dismantling. UT and OU are programs that any Power 5 conference would love to secure. The rumor mill sell on those two is way easier than team from the former Big East. And without those two, the Big 12 "Power" status starts to fall apart.

That's why I'm not Big12 or Bust. Would I like to join the Big 12 over AAC? Definitely. Do I think we need to do EVERYTHING in our power to do so? If there is ever a chance for us to join the ACC, that's a more solid future, for sure. I can still see a time 5 years down the line where 4 mega-conferences destroy the Big 12.

Can ESPN threaten to sue to stop them? Yes, ESPN can threaten to sue. Oh yea, ESPN wrote the contract. But, unless there's wording in that contract based on losing teams, I don't see how they could win.

You're definitely right that it is unlikely that they could win, but it's also extremely unlikely it would ever make it to a point where the could 'win' in court -- I'm sure there are arbitration or mediation clauses. It would just be a way for them to force everyone back to the negotiation table and secure a better deal. That means uncertainty for Big 12. If they add new members based merely on expectations found in clauses in the contract and then ESPN flips the script... they have a mess.

As much as I hate it, they need to make sure their TV partner will play nice with whatever decision they are making unless they're planning to leave ESPN for another company.

Just to clarify, are you referring to "Lightning was"? My understanding is that, in sports journalism, the word "club" or "team" is usually implied following team names that do NOT end in "s," such that the singular verb is used. For example, the "Orlando Magic was," but the "Chicago Bears were."  I could be wrong though, too lazy to look it up.

If I am wrong though, yes, this would be a big matzah ball of a mistake.

I could be wrong, but I think he was referring to the fact that many of those sentences aren't sentences. I definitely could be wrong, but that's what I took from it.

Really only one way to make Joey and he rest of the times dbags shut up... We gotta show up.

I wish we had a supportive media in town, but too many writers with little else in their lives to be positive.  Gangsters and their Twitter fingers :)

I take solace in knowing they're slowly being replaced by news writing algorithms like WordSmith. Continue to write your nonsense while you can... before the metal ones come for you.

But I still don't think UCF, SMU, or UConn beats them on a neutral field if they play next week. If they did, I would gladly bet a large sum of money on it. (I wouldn't pull a TigerJay and disappear if I lost the bet either)

I'd agree with you that on that likelihood -- it's not a bet I'd take. I just can't rank them on potential that I was just sorely lacking in that game. Army is awful and Temple looked anemic. I'm sure they'll get their stuff together, but if Week 2 looks even a little bit lik Week 1 for them, they're in SERIOUS trouble.

But UConn also looked exceptionally bad.
