  1. Ok, guys. The reality is that Lamar has not shown enough to even be third on the depth chart. We have one senior graduating this year at RB. There isn't suddenly going to be a lot more playing time available next year. If Lamar is redshirting, it is because he isn't in a position to be productive.

He did a fine job fielding punts and kicks in 2010, and personally, I'd rather have him back there as a return specialist as opposed to risking injury to my #1 WR (Mitchell) or my #1 corner (Webster) which is what is going on right now.

  2. I saw a DB unit playing bump coverage... staying with the receivers on long routes and playing as a solid unit. I think we'll be pleasantly surprised this year with our backfield.

I was happy to see the press coverage.

What a concept. I'm used to seeing our corners playi f 5 yards off the receivers.

  3. This offense is very impressive

Wish we could've snagged Bridgewater a couple years back...

we should have upgraded a qb the last 2 years

    we standed pat

in college football qb is the most important player on offensive side of the ball

qb is the key to winning

without a top qb you dont win championships

    Help is forth-coming:

As for Louisville, they will be hard pressed to march 99, 85 and 90 yards on consecutive drives against our D. Kentucky is, and almost always has been a pushover on D. Bridgewater looked **** good though.

  4. I think the offense needs to revolve around him. With no running game in sight, he is the only hope to keep defenses honest.

This. Just unleash the kid already ... not like he's got to stay in the pocket and increase his NFL draft stock as a QB.

    Wow. We've found common ground.

  5. Bulls94- why do you even both being a fan? The season isn't even 24 hours old yet- we won a game where the outcome we NEVER in doubt and you are pissing and moaning like we just hit our annual Mid-October Swan Dive.

If you are miserable now- when aren't you?

being a fan might be a choice for you.

I expected a different coaching staff. one that has a team well prepared and firing on all cylinders. one that goes for the throat and wants to put a team away.

I didn't get that. I got more of the same.

Going for th throat got the last guy fired.

  6. Running game was bad. We got a whopping 84 yards rushing from actual RBs. Our O-line looked like swiss cheese. BJ up to the same old crap -- running with the ball not secured, taking 8 yard losses because he can't throw the ball out of bounds, another fumble, another inteception. Dropped passes from wide receivers. Same old crap we've seen every year.

Our defense looked stout. Terrell McClain even got a sack tonight for us, which was amazing.

Yeah McClain really stood out in that Carolina Panthers uni. Did you mean Chandler?

  7. Grothe.

2007 may be unmatched for the level of euphoria in the program for quite awhile. Out of nowhere our team reached #2 status. Though it was a flash in the pan, it was a pretty epic flash to live in for that moment. Even if we, say, made the Orange Bowl this year, I don't think it'd be as epic as shooting up the #2 when nobody knew the name of our university. Grothe embodied that team. Sure, he had a lot of help, but he was the face. Yes, even over All American George Selvie who by the middle of conference play was already proving to not be as good as the hype, and Mike Jenkins who was **** good, but was a CB and had a limited ceiling "favorite" wise for most because of that.

How did that season end again? I forgot.

Please stay on topic. This is hardly the point.

Let me tie up the loose ends, as it was part of my calculus. In my mind, those guys are remebered as guys that didn't reach their full potential, and in my opinion (since this is the topic), they were quite a disappointing bunch.

  9. ESPN is an establishment network... they pander to the big programs and they loath upstarts that pose a threat to this system.

ESPN is kind of like that old guy on Caddyshack that hated all of the low brow people in the club...

So I guess that makes the Big East this guy?

    No respect!

  10. hopkins has world class speed though. short won't matter if he's so far behind the defense they can't get their arms up (assuming the QB gets the throw accurate). i saw him in the spring game two years ago - always thought he would be a more dangerous lamar if he came around.

Rivals (i know, not the most reliable) only had him running a 4.5 in highschool. Thats fast but not world class speed. Has he been doing track as well or anything?

He's bee a star on USF track.

Hopkins and Lamar both have LEGITIMATE 4.3 speed, based on HS and College track results.

But can he run routes or, more importantly, catch the ball? I'm sure the answer is yes, but I'm wondering why he's barely seen the field the last couple years but is a starter in week one over a senior in Victor Marc, or a more proven commodity in Welch?

deters has a pretty good point, maybe it's because of the opponent.

With Hopkins, its probably not a matter of catching the ball, but rather getting jammed at the line.
