  1. We absolutely have the talent to win this game. In fact we had the talent this year to win every game. Our coaching is what limits us with the playcalling and sloppiness. Also our most important position (QB) has not been great. Again, coaching holds it back too I think.

I'd argue the reason we won the first few games was literally all talent.  Once you figured out the basics of how we use it and what we don't do, talent just got out coached.  That's literally what's going on, we're being out coached.  Since Strong has gotten here his teams start slow and seem messy and unprepared.  Every game.... Every single game...

All the way from San Jose to Tampa....literally coast to coast?

The trajectory was going in the other direction though.  Taggart went 2-10, then 4-8, then 8-5... so  during that second year you saw actual improvement... we started off 1-4 but he wouldn't have gotten fired until the end of the season.  But he was getting better and you could see it, he adapted and changed.  Strong is getting  worse and not adapting and changing.  He wouldn't even change that garbage offense to fit Flowers skills.  So I think 2 years is more than enough given he came off of three losing seasons at Texas.  He's the college Steve Fisher.

This is exactly how I feel. CWT made the change and we could see the improvements. Strong is the exact opposite and this team looks way worse than last year (in terms of sloppiness and focus)....

I did too. I would have never guessed in a million years he would have regressed this badly. Indeed, at the start of the year I thought we would have some hiccups then we would get better as the season went on and players got better experience (especially on the offensive line). But instead the opposite happend. For me this has been the biggest fail of the coaching staff this year: lack of player development.

Exactly. We remain a sloppy, undisciplined team. It’s 100% on coaching. We look exactly like we did in the San Jose opener and we are two seasons later. We made a bad coaching hire.

It’s a reason White/BB are having trouble, schematically USF is better suited for QB’s like Flowers, Grothe and Daniels. With the athletes we can recruit it’s better if we get them in to space and use their speed and have a qb who is a serious threat to run. If you are going to do read option the whole game might as well get a qb who can make the defense pay .

I agree, but we seem to hire coaches who like to make our QBs pocket passers (Holtz, Taggart first 2.5 years, Strong/Gilbert).

Its time we hire a coach who we know will use our FL speed from the start.

As much as I think Willie was learning on the job and wasn't worth what we were paying, he at least learned that players respect and appreciate a coach that goes for the kill - just like he expects the players to do.   If I'm on the current squad, I'll lay on the couch at halftime.

I never wanted to see him leave TBH. He adjusted his style to the talent we had. That takes guts as a coach so I give him kudos for that. I think if he stayed last year we win the American. But now that he’s gone he’s in a worse situation and so are we.

He is more like Jim Leavitt.  Win OOC games and then fall apart in the conference games.

I get your point, but disagree. Those Leavitt teams played better competition and never looked as unmotivated and sloppy as the Strong ones are now. Leavitt would own playing in the American. Also we have had a weak OOC schedule these last two years. Leavitt would have run the table here too.

GT's decision to put a hobbled QB back in the game rather than the Back-up that was tearing us apart helped too.

    ..on a blown coverage

Year 3 will tell us whether he is Holtz 2.0. I think Strong is better personally. Better recruiter, and better clock management. Skip was in a class of his own on clock mismanagement.

I’ll be honest. I really don’t want to see a Strong year 3 to see if he’s a Holtz 2.0 or not. He’s already kind of proven that he is. I want him gone and a full re-start.

  9. Looking at this season, we lose the following games if we didn’t get the lucky break:

    GT (4Q fumble)

Illinois (late TD was almost dropped)

    Tulsa (gw FG)

I’ll give us the ECU win since it would have still been tied without the Cronk win.

Our real record should be 4-8 after the season. Holtz finished his second year 5-7. Holtz had a few last second losses that year that didnt break his way, in which Strong had some last second wins break his way. They are two peas in a pod as far as coaching goes, and unless the staff is shaken up, we are in for a Holtz-like 3 win season next year under Strong.
