Florida, last time I checked, is a pretty solid recruiting ground.  I would think the program success paired with the Big 12 invite gives them an opportunity to play toe to toe with any of them.  They may screw it up but I think that is the same opportunity we are looking to achieve.

Not saying the AAC is better or even equal, but the Big 12 is not the draw you think it is for FL kids. Even more so after Texas and OK leave.

More just comparing schedules.  UCF was once at this point probably comparing their sad sack C-USA lineup to our Big East lineup.  Of course they won a few division and conference championships.  Of course they were 0-12 one year too.  Tides can turn for sure.  They are obviously basking in a glow we once basked in.  How we screwed up sitting in the cat bird's seat is still unbelievable to me.

That The Athletic story broke it down pretty well, but man does this program need a few solid breaks.  I hope your boy Golesh is the chosen one.

CF has won like 7 or 8 games against ranked FBS opponents in the last 20 years. That’s why they have won championships… super weak schedules. That’s about to change for them. Have fun playing teams in Texas and Kansas.

I knew you were rational.  You are dumping on me for basically saying the same exact thing.   If I had no tie to the school I probably would care about them every bit as much as I care about Georgia or Auburn or Pitt.

But why don’t you just go on their message board then? You’re bringing a ton of unneeded negativity, when the rest of us are trying to look forward. Typical UCFer, you’ll fit right in over there.

    Nov. 4 West Virginia

    Nov. 11 BYU

Not sure what your goal is here. It's just sad witnessing you unravel at this point. That said, I predict 2 wins for your new team next year: Kent State and maybe at Iowa State.

I agree but we need to prioritize winning over the OCS. If we are not trending upward and winning games wasting the money and taking on massive debt is not smart.

Not being mutually exclusive means that one doesn't have to take priority over the other.

I don't think CF has regretted building the erector set once. Even when they went 0-12. Of course we won't sell out every game. We don't do that at Ray Jay either. The fans that show up regardless deserve it.

During my time at USF, the only time I ever felt the commuter school label was on game day. It's so much fun to drive 25 minutes on the interstate to go tailgate in a giant parking lot. /s

So you think people will pack an OCS to watch teams like Temple and ECU drop 40 on us and embarrass USF? I am for an OCS but winning should be priority one. Taking out massive loans if the product sucks is not smart.

Building an OCS and winning aren't mutually exclusive. Obviously we can do both and should. Off-campus home games are the lamest college football experience I've ever had. Even at Miami. I remember in '05, my friends and I got all painted up and had to take the metrorail to that game... with a bunch of people that couldn't care less there was a game happening. Compare that to games I went to at Auburn, FSU, UF, and even UCF, and it's clear why we have fallen behind. No on-campus gameday atmosphere. I have had the displeasure of attending games at the old Citrus Bowl too. Once C. Florida built their OCS, I knew it was a matter of time for their program to pass us. Been saying it since '07. Sure, winning is #1, but overall fan experience is right up there and can help buoy a program when they are down.

OK. As I said in another thread I'm new to this whole NIL concept. Are you saying The Bullspen will be raising money so an athlete, or athletes, can receive money for playing for USF?

    Yup. Welcome to NFL-lite

USF needs to prioritize winning before a stadium. IF we don't go bowling consistently again and continue to get blown out by terrible teams the stadium on campus will be empty.

CJS also inherited a team right before the pandemic happened. I knew right away that it would be very difficult for him to start his head coaching career off like that. Only playing 8 games with most of the players missing time due to covid protocols.

JS is clearly not HC material. I don't think anywhere at any level.

Curious to see if in the portal era you can convince a blue chip to come to you for a year.

"You can come to beautiful Tampa and start against lesser competition for a year to get your feet wet with college football instead of redshirting somewhere for a year. Then transfer to the highest bidder if you so please"

I'm sure that will happen and could work out sometimes, but that can't be good for team chemistry.

If you accepting losing you already lost. 4 wins is the floor for next season. That schedule is the weakest we have played since moving up to D1.

Take away Bama and it may compare to the 1-AA days

This is a good thing. We need championships, not one big regular season win here and there. This is how UCF got their championships. Playing weak schedules. USF always has a great team with a schedule that's just one notch too hard to win it all. Win championships, get better players, then increase the schedule difficulty (I understand some of it is a crap shoot).

I also get the feeling that if successful, he may stick around for a while rather than jumping ship right away.

If he wins conference championships, consistently gets to the playoffs by doing so, we better pay this man whatever he wants to stick around. He seems to get the potential of this program and could really build a legacy here. Once we get an OCS, there really won't be that much of a difference to other programs. The only real advantage bigger football schools will have is an easier time recruiting blue chippers. If we have a path to championships, it will be that much easier to convince all the Bay Area talent to stay home.
