This wasn't about a college coach.

Correct.  It was a story about one time a HS coach didn't have the players best interest in mind.  It's one story.  It could easily be countered with one story of the time a college coach didn't care about a player.  Therefore, it really has no significance in the bigger discussion of who has the players best interest in mind and whether this is about ego or genuine concern for the players best interest.

I know a young man who played HS ball for a well respected coach who he thought the world of.  He earned a scholly, was injured freshman year, and rehabbed himself. Sophomore year, he worked his way to being a starter. At the end of the season he decided to quit football, because he didn't want to live the rest of his life suffering from the cumulative (grade school, HS, and college ball) wear and tear on his body.

His parents got a call from the HS coach telling them he want to see their son when he get home for Christmas break.   He met with the coach, and the coach was all over him for quitting.  The coach wasn't interested in the player's welfare one iota. He was only interested in his own reputation with the college coach.  The player told the coach that he had just lost all the respect he had for him, and to never contact him or his parents again.

And I'm sure no one could ever find an anecdote of a college coach who didn't have the players best interest in mind.

HS coaches are mentors and father figures to a lot of these kids and circumventing them to get to the players would certainly rub them the wrong way.  I would prefer that we have area coaches talking up the program and having athletes come here with their blessing.

To add insult to injury, some of these coaches have been living that #BayMade life for 30+ years.  To have a guy ride into town, throw that around, smile for the cameras, and never make an effort towards building real relationships with the HS coaches who have been trying to "make" something for these Bay kids since xCWT was one of them, that would probably piss me off too.

My gut tells me this is the case.  The results speak for themselves.  LOTS of high schools in the Bay Area.  IMO, it shouldn't be about stroking the HS coaches' egos, it should be about the players.

I don't really think it is about ego, at least with a guy like Garcia.  I'm sure he has seen more than a couple of his guys, and lots of others, get caught up and used up by shady college coaches over the years and I would give him the benefit of the doubt that his involvement is only in the players best interest.   To some of the coaches he is speaking for, yes it is probably ego.

Of course it should be about the players, but the players are young males and often do not have strong internal or external guidance on good decision making and that is a role that many public HS coaches take on.  All it would take is a couple conversations on Taggart's part to build that trust.

It'll all blow over by the weekend anyway.

So Taggart was winning games and getting recruits in the area while being a DBag?

    Basically recruiting with ankle weights?

My guess would be Taggart built his relationships with the players he needed and had no concern with really knowing the coaches or the area besides what he needed.

Isn't Garcia kind of old school? Time was you couldn't get in contact with these recruits and you couldn't get a hold of film without going through the HS coaches.  That used to be the process. Strong is probably more traditional in that regard.

I don't know anyone that was ever charged with DUI, but I know several parents that lost a child due to someone else drinking and driving

That really defies statistics given that arrests are way way higher than deaths. I would guess you know a lot of people charged with a DUI, you just don't know about them.

That is something a lawyer friend of mine told me over dinner a few years back so it could be off. On average 1.5 million Americans are arrested for DUI every year which can add up over time(30 million in a 20 year Span which is 25% of licensed drivers) taking into account I would guess a lot of DUIs happen to those in their 20s it is realistic to believe that over 50% of drivers have a DUI. Assuming the average DUI recipient lives 40 years or more past the date of their offense.

    http://www.drunkdrivingprevention.com/drunkdrivingarreststatistics.html

You'll need to redo your math, cause about a 1/3 of DUIs are repeat offenders, and of those a lot aren't just on their 2nd.

I remember Christian Ponder spending the day on his back courtesy of JPP. I was at that game, with my FSU alum brother and our parents in between us haha.

JPP had a good game.  But Craig Marshall and Aaron Harris made some big plays too. When you have NFL draft picks like Selvie , McClain, and JPP and then the "other guys" step up, it's usually gonna be a long day for an offensive line / QB

The  on campus hotel at USF would benefit from an OCS. On campus Publix will benefit more too. The WOB will have increased sales if the OCS. Seems like a no brainner to get it done

Yes, we should drop 100+ million in a project so three businesses will make a few tens of thousands of dollars.

  10. He did a pretty good job but Mattox and Gilbert are tight. Just not room for everyone.

I was kind of expecting our guys to end up at UConn . with multiple openings in the AAC I expect we will be going against Weist somewhere too

Thanks, I figured he had to have atleast some recruiting experience in FL but that exceeds my expectations. I know he has also been the Recruiting Coordinator at Texas which he must have carried over from UL. Was already excited to have him on the trail but even more so now! With the first team meeting Sunday I'd imagine the rest of the staff should be announced by then. All signs still pointing to keeping King at QBs which would be huge.

Certainly while at those institutions recruiting Florida was only part of his responsibility.  But that along with being a good recruiter in general....he will be fine.

BJM was with Strong at UL too right? I know Hurt did most FL recruiting for them butbtgey hit FL hard. I'd imagine BJM has some connections at the least.

He recruited central Florida for Strong at Louisville and while at Georgia Tech for six years it was part of his responsibility as well.  And he was the recruiting coordinator the last year at Louisville once Hurtt got in trouble.  So he has been recruiting Florida for 10+ years and is from here.   He will be an asset in recruiting and as a coach

Still not over with yet, but it's a little worrisome. I believe if King is retained it will help.

BJM is from Apopka.  Charlie Williams coached for the Bucs for several years under Dungy as well as coaching at Miami in the early 1990's.,

Add King along with Bell and Strong and I would say we have very strong FL ties on staff, with a couple spots still left to fill.

Do I draw the parallel? Nah, let it ride cj...

BJM is much much more experienced as a college assistant coach than Woodie, period.  He had been coaching college ball for ten years when Woodie got in to the college coaching game.   He has been coaching LB's for 13 years in P5 conferences.  He has been a part of actual championship defenses at Louisville and Ga Tech. He has worked under really well respected DC's John Tenuta and  Dave Wommack, not to mention coach Strong. Texas was rough for all these guys but he's got a great resume.

1st time FAU football has been confused with Kentucky basketball in the history of life,

It's also quite different to be 1 of 9 assistant coaches versus the guy running the program.

Strong has typically hired two DB coaches anyway. Personally, Im not judging these hires until the entire staff is officially announced

Can't help but wonder how a program like FAU.....an even newer program than ours.....managed to get an OCS built, and is in the process of building a supposedly really nice IPF. I don't follow them closely enough to know if it is bankrupting the University/Athletic Department. Not sure it's helped their attendance a whole lot compared to their days at Lockhart either.

FAU was 3rd from last in attendance.

  17. Ole MIss has not been historically that bad.  They were also around in a time when people rooted for their team and everyone wasn't bandwagoneers.  They raised generations and generations of fans.

But most of all the Ole Miss gameday atmosphere trumps ours because they are playing a top 25 team every other home game, and almost always on Saturdays.  If we played their schedule way way way more people would show up at Raymond James.
