No. There are Collectives and there is NIL (aka endorsement deals).

Players getting Collective payments are not receiving them for use of their Name, Image & Likeness by anyone. Collectives are simply collecting money donated by fans to basically bribe a player to play here or there. A player may wish to play in one place over another and the bribe may help to sweeten the pot. No use of N, I or L is necessary here. Many college athletes receive smaller sized payments (relative to NIL deals) to play for a specific university. <- This is not NIL.

NIL is actually paying a player money specifically to be able to use their Name, Image & Likeness for an advertisement of some kind. That is an endorsement deal. Previous to NIL, companies were not allowed to use college player's Name, Image or Likeness without paying them money to use it. But before NIL, companies were not permitted to pay any amateur student athletes. Only the top, most famous college athletes have received NIL deals and have been featured in commercials.

    Coke - NIL
    Pepsi - Collectives
Cola - Monetary Payments to Athletes.

I try to never say I’m certain about something until I really am, and I’m only saying I’m pretty certain on this because of the multiple times I see the term “NIL Collective”.

    Here are a couple links:

Please show us a link that clearly states Collectives are not a form of NIL (or cola 😉)

Kind of reminds me how tipping culture evolved.  Restaurants not wanting to pay regular wage so it's passed on to the customer to supplement the employees salary.  NCAA and universities never wanted to share the profits so NIL was created to take more money from fans and donors to pay the athletes so the NCAA and universities don't have to.

Honestly I think the term "NIL" is just being used like Coke is when talking about a soda. It's the word that started all this and people are used to it. "Collectives" sounds too hoity toity even if that's what their legal identifier is. I'd suggest just using "Payola" or the cruder "Bribery" when referring to all this.

Actually, using Trip’s analogy, NIL is cola. Collectives are Coke and endorsement deals are Pepsi.

Both are NIL - the ability to make money off your N, I, and L.

Deon was saying not to hate on NIL as a whole - only the collectives. That piece of NIL is to blame.

I don't know if this is a picture of the 9th green, but the last time I played The Claw the sides of the cart barn were so rotted that I believe this photo could have been taken from the other side, looking straight through the barn.  We sort of knew at that point there was no more money going into it.  I actually think one of the "talons" of the actual claw on 14(?) had broken off as well.

I like the way we do it, with the participation differentiation between the NIT and NCAAT. Would have been interesting to have seen how we'd have handled the CBI if we didn't win it ... Will be nice seeing two new ones up there next season.

So I guess we’ll just be adding “2024” to the NIT banner, right?  And of course the AAC Championship banner. Are those the two, or am I missing another one?

He's going to be interviewed on the radio soon.

Says this is home for him.  He's been following USF MBB and soccer.   Has a lot of offers for this upcoming season.

Karter Knox in the house wearing usf green

At least Karter (unlike MVS) can figure out what to wear to support a team.

I just don’t get it - it’s almost as if more effort was made not to wear any bit of green.

Probably bothers me more than it should, but it does.

A new challenge for our guys.

I’m neither a coach nor a player so it’s fine to say “go out there and play your best”.

    Expectations exceeded.

Just go out there and be your best.

I'm hoping because the expectation exceeded part is not in quotes that you aren't indicating you would say those words BEFORE the game, right?  To me, those words are saved for after a loss!😉

This was the game we had to have.

No - we had to have every game for quite some time now.  We’ve been told that over and over.

And guess what?  We still have to have every game from here on out.   At least that needs to be the mindset.

  8. Yes. My fear was that with all the buzz about a new a stadium (and possibly a winning team in a better conference) that many businesses will get behind USF and plop down a large donations just before that season and get priority over those of us who have been there since day 1, but perhaps at a lower donor level.

I was told earlier by someone else from USF that they were talking about the need to respect the ones who never gave up, but it’s even better to also hear it from the man at the top.

  9. Man, we really do want it all!

Personally, I’m not going to stress out about who above us or who below us wins this week or next so we can cling onto our ranking.

If we just win out, we’re going to the dance, and our final rankings will be what they are.

I’m sure my feelings about the season will based more on our record than our ranking.
