  1. It seems TV market is a key driver behind these moves but does it matter if no one is interested in the school's teams? Take Temple for example, they reside in the 4th largest TV market but have only 4,600 students and a plethora of other big league sports teams. Why would anyone care?

Exactly, teams in small places like: Athens,Ga, Gainesville Fl., College Station Tx., Stillwater OK, seem to draw in a bigger viewing audience than a Tample or Tulane would in a big market...in big cities college sports seem to get overlooked.

  2. Now that we are in a mid-major conference, we will be a stepping stone school...any coach that comes in here and has any kind of success will bolt for the first taker for the bigger conferences. This is why mid-majors don't usually have prolonged sucess. I think Doug knew we were going to be in this situation long before we did and that played into him locking down Skip so that we wouldn't get the rep. of being that stepping-stone. That is one rep. that is hard to lose.

  3. Basically Skip got what you are describing. He makes about 2 million a year, but USF has an out, that it can buy out years at just 500 thousand a year. Imagine what it would be like USF had to pay the whole balance on Skip's contract in termination. Then there would be no talk of a coaching change right now.

I want to get paid 500K to do nothing as a reward for sucking at my job...

  4. All of this stuff used to concern me but Skippy's destruction of the program makes it to where none of this matters. We were in a downward spiral when he was hired in 2010, we just did not know it yet.

Disagree about the downward spiral back when Skip was hired, Leavitt might not have been the best coach but he made us what we were.

Agree about how Skippy has destroyed this program... even if he rights the ship in two years or so and gets us back to where we were under Leavitt, he should still be fired.

We didn't go into a downward "spiral" when Skip was hired. In fact we had 3 of our most notable ooc wins with him. The "spiral" would have started with the 5th game of his 2nd year here .... and for God's sake, please stop with the "destroyed the program" melodramatics. It makes those that spew that sound ridiculous ...

If on the field performance is a factor in re-alignment...he may have kept us from the big boy table and the money it brings. So he may have not "desroyed" the program, but "permanently injured" is still on the table.

  5. Why would they disband it? What's the benefit? They'd risk losing the Big East name along with any contracts associated with said league (MSG BE Tournament agreement). They'd also likely get less in their TV contract then if it were negotiated with Temple, Louisville/UConn, Memphis, etc.... Just doesn't make any sense to me for them to do that.

Could they just cut football out of the BE and keep the name/ MSG connection?

  6. Not sure if this has been mentioned, but what about the TV negotiations for next year and the following few years. As per Big East by laws, all of the defecting teams have to wait a few years before jumping ship unless some kind of settlement is reached (BE lets them off the hook). How would we secure a TV deal if half of the teams are just waiting to leave the conference? Will we likely not have a tv deal next year if the BE stays together?
