Also didn't the b12 really decrease its value then by adding g5 and independent teams with Byu,Houston, Ucf, and Cincinnati.  By his own standard the b12 must really have lowered their value adding three g5 teams and losing the top 2 teams that has more money and ratings then the rest of the conference combined in football which is the only sport that matters to power TV contacts.

That's why the Big 12 quickly took the TV deal extension that was offered in order to remain stable. Gave them time to pitch the Pac12 as unstable (with the help of the terrible leadership in the Pac12) and poach more teams to try to boost their worth for the next deal.

Take out the computer metrics for a second. This year's team, on the court in matchup vs 2012's NCAA tournament team --> this year's team is better. We got in the tournament after a mediocre/ okayish Big East season (amazing season for us) during 2012 because we were in the Big East still and presumably had better computer metrics because of that. But in a game on the court, this team, regardless of who our schedule forced us to play this season, is better and deserves to be playing in the tournament.

That 2012 team did better than "mediocre/okayish" in the Big East. We finished 12-6 in conference play and in a 3-way tie for 3rd place in a league that put 9 teams in the tournament. But as someone else said, that team's mindset was wholly different from this year's. It wasn't as explosive offensively, but they had a way of grinding other teams' offense to a halt. It would be interesting to watch for sure.

Fair. I just hope we can lock down coaches who don't want to leave to chase the top schools, but want to make our programs into top school programs. If basketball and football have consistency over the next couple of seasons and win a few conference championships, the next level will be calling us ALL up in realignment just like they called up UCF. We'd be exactly where CAAR or CAG want to be and the money follows. I hope these guys absolutely love our school and Tampa and don't want to leave to go coach in some ****hole like Morgantown, WV or something like that.

Hey hey hey hey, West Virginia is a great place to live (if you wanna get hooked on opioids)

Coach Golesh started this ain't the same usf anymore  with his record turnaround and winning season.  Coach Amir said let me top that for you to set the standard for football next year.   Coach taught the boys how to fight and battle out a win. Now they are ready to be coach  up to better their specialty skill  set to their position with the x's and o's. I can't wait to see the Bulls give the aac the horns next year.

Is this Outlaw or @Bull Matrix?

As far as the original poster's question, that would be a very nice draw. The only thing that could make it nicer would be being in with Houston or Arizona/Tennessee/UNC (whomever the 4th #1 ends up being). Purdue and UCONN will present nightmare matchups for us in the paint with Edey and Clingan. We saw what can happen when Goldin finally got going for FAU. Goldin is 7'1'' 240 lbs. Corey Walker, Jr. and even Pryor could body up against him and cause some problems or at least slow him down. Clingan is 7'2'' 280 lbs and Edey is 7'4'' 300 lbs....talk about 2 giants that are in a class of their own.

I wonder if CAAR would give any thought to trying Tobiloba out there to neutralize bigs of their size. If not, the margin for error for USF shooting wise becomes very small.

Doubtful. Has he even gotten any minutes since the first handful of games? The offense didn't look great early in the season with him on the floor, at least looking back through the box scores. CAAR has seemed content to lean on our guards/forwards to handle business even when bigs were killing us in the paint.

Yeah I'm a bit confused.  If guys participated that may or may not be back next year, then what about Youngblood, Stroud and Jennings who are listed as seniors on the roster?  What if they bolt for more money next season.  Did they choose NOT to participate which is probably a good indication they'll be back?

Considering Youngblood, Stroud and Jennings followed CAAR here, I imagine they're not going anywhere unless he does

I'm not sure that holds true any longer. I remember being in Clearwater for a tournament game. After a guy walked on 4 pitches the next batter swung at the first pitch. Growing up that was a no-no. But a player's father heard me say something about that and he told me that that unwritten rule doesn't hold any longer. He said if you get a good pitch you swing at it. (The guy did swing at a pitch that was nowhere near the strike zone). This was probably 10 years ago. Times and philosophies change I suppose. You see pros taking huge swings with 2 strikes on them - not just try to make contact. There are a few guys around that still do it but they are in the minority.

But the point still sort of stands. Taking strike 3, unless it comes on a pitch with absurd break, is never a good look.

To the polar opposite, I can see an argument for both sides. A pitcher who just walked a guy on 4 pitches may just not have control at all and you don't wanna help him out if he can't find the strike zone. On the flip side, a pitcher who just walked a guy on 4 pitches may be looking to "just get one in" and put a meatball over the plate.

Hilarious to call UConn a basketball over academics move. As if UConn wouldn't be one of, if not THE, highest rated universities in the Big 12 and the highest among those listed as going to the ACC. USF, Tulane and UConn would be sound athletic AND academic additions.

Why is it the big12 fans talking about this?

I think it’s off season click bait.

They're a part of the vast 12Anon propaganda arm.

Yea I don't know guys, if you look at the stats and the record over the last 7 years, I don't know how you defend this coaching. CBM is closer to a baseball xCJS than he is to CAG. The good news is that pitching so far is night and day better than it was last year. Hope it can save us when the bats are quiet.

I'm not defending him. I've said here previously that I'd love if he got the team turned around, but I'm more inclined to believe he's gone after the season. One of those guys who is better suited as an assistant (in this case pitching coach) rather than the manager.

I was just responding to that specific example. When young players are willing to sit and look at strike three, you can blame coaching to a degree. When you're talking about college players and above (hell even high school players and above), to me that's more on the players than it is coaching. You learn from a young age to protect the zone with two strikes and try to put the bat on the ball if it's anywhere close rather than leave it up to the umpire.

The mindset of a baseball player who doesn't even swing the bat, in that situation, at this level of competition, is 100% on the coaching staff.

Ehhhh, the players are old enough to know better in that situation. My daughter's softball team (10U), I remind them all the time that they can't get hits if they don't swing the bat. Sometimes they just need the nudge and reminder that we'd rather they go down swinging than praying for a walk. College-aged kids shouldn't need that reminder or that kick in the pants.

I don't know it just sounds as someone who is coaching a 19-8 , 9-7  ACC team, who is looking like they might not make it to the NCAAT, making excuses. Teams that are not included in the final 68 usually have themselves to blame and it comes down to a loss here or there.

Maybe if he was the only one saying it. But The Athletic had a piece a few weeks before he gave this quote saying essentially the same thing. Might be where he got the idea.

On another note, Memphis getting their **** together means we have a Quad 1 win back

USF needs more fans. We are a full generation or two behind many of the schools we compete against. We will catch up (and pass many) quickly, but in this case quickly is most likely 10-30 years.

Exercise: You find a genie's lamp and because you didn't ask for more wishes, the genie grants you 25,000 new, hardcore fans to USF. These fans buy season tickets, donate to NIL, go to 70%+ of home games and even travel at least once a season, and most definitely go to any playoff scenarios for the team. Caveat, they only support one team. It is up to you to allocate the 25,000 fans to each sport.

How would you spread them out across USF athletics?

    My answer:

10,000 to football. This will all but guarantee home sell outs at OCS and respectable crowds at away games plus bowls.

5,000 to men's basketball. We were averaging approximately 3,500 before the magic started happening - add 5k and we'd have consistent home games of around 8k at minimum.

3,000 to women's basketball. Same as men's basketball, but slightly less.

2,000 to baseball. Averaging 3k+ for baseball games would be incredible. (I'm a baseball homer)

    1,000 to W lacrosse.

    1,000 to men's soccer.

    1,000 to women's soccer.

500 to softball. (stadium is pretty full already most games?)

150 each to the remaining 10 sports.

Would be willing to sub 1-2k from men's basketball (we are currently selling those tickets pretty well) and allocate more to volleyball/beach volleyball, as well as golf. Not sure how many people go to college golf tournaments, but imagine having a crowd of 500 USF fans show up and follow the squads when there are no more than, say 30-50 (?) for the other schools.

Wow, so ~18K to men's sports and only ~5,500 to women's sports? Close the gender fan gap!

To each his own; however, I think it means nothing because you are pretty much saying that you think God favored you over the other players or the other teams. So does he believe that he has won because God preferred him to win?

Maybe instead he's praising him for blessing him with the talent to coach up the young men with whom he's been entrusted? That's how I take it when athletes praise the big man upstairs, for giving them the abilities they've been blessed with as a base to build off of.

I know we just destroyed a bad Marist team over the weekend, but I have so little confidence that this is going to be the turnaround year Billy Mohl needs. I hope I’m very wrong, because he seems to be a good man, but my gut tells me we’ll be making a change this summer.

The “arm farm” has lost all its crop and I didn’t expect at this point we’d still be seeing him running out guys like Tanner Mink and Austin Grause. Those dudes have had enough innings to show they can or can’t do it.

By all accounts the players love playing for him. After the season last year a lot of current and former players came to his defense. I'm an optimist and am all for giving guys the chance to get it turned around. I hope he can get it figured out before we get to conference play and go on a run. The current athletic year has been a fun ride and I just want baseball and softball to keep that going.

That said, I'm not really sure I'm all that confident it will happen.

    While I didn't say that.

I will say this. Change is coming, and USF has put itself in a very good position to benefit from the upcoming change.

AKA #USF2B1G is imminent. You said what you said and I read it how I wanted to read it. I look forward to that B1G update from the USF Athletics account any day now and no amount of explaining what you said will change that Mike.
