  1. Hey Bullwark, if you don't mind I'm going to respond to a post you made in the library thread, mainly because my response veered off into talking about Cooper...

I would love to see a large well done Library built in the center of campus as a centerpiece or focal point for the campus.  Then remodel Cooper, that is an ugly building inside and out.

Definitely agree about the library, however I think the new future honors college will be the the signature building on campus. I think I read that somewhere. Can't wait for those renderings to come out.

About Cooper...Not another dollar needs to be sunk into that pile unless it's to tear it down. I really don't see how it can be renovated at all. What kills me the most about cooper is that this building houses tons of classes for incoming freshmen students. I remember thinking on my first day of classes back in '02, "This is college?" Not a great way to boost morale for so many eager, excited, incoming college students. I guess you can be cute, and think of it as a rite of passage for all bulls, but it's still kind of sad when your high school was ten times nicer than the [glow=yellow,2,300]new building[/glow] you'll be spending most of your time in as a freshmen.

I think I found a flaw in your argument.  Cooper Hall has to be more than 40 years old... not a "new" building by any means.

Moreover, USF only has about 5,000 freshmen each year... and accepts far more transfers from other schools who don't have to take Freshman English or other "Gordon Rule" courses.

Is the building terrible?  Yup.  It just doesn't have quite impact you might think.

I'm an engineering transfer student and have only taken engineering related classes yet I've still had 3 classes in Cooper. 2 in the fall, 1 in the spring. I hate, hate, hate the smell of the subway bread or whatever it is. I had a class in a small room right behind Subway and every time I smelled it, I got nauseous.

Cooper hall sucks but there are plenty of other buildings that suck more. Life Sciences and BEH come to mind. There isn't a single window in the phy/math building.

ENB is the filthiest building I have ever been in. I feel like I need to go through a sanitation chamber whenever I leave. Fortunately, that can be changed...

  2. The Library is an embarrassment.

I hope that beige brick is never brought on campus again - it's hideous. The red brick goes too well with our colors to pass up, plus it looks great with ivy growing on it. I think the funniest thing I have read referring to our campus was from UCFer...Our campus looks like a soviet housing development.

Things I would like to see added: (not including OCS)

    1. A clock tower or prominent landmark - used for a Central meeting place.

    2. New Library

    3. More red brick with green accents.

My favorite buildings on campus include the Natural Sciences, Education, and Moffit Cancer Center. We need to expand on that architecture. Cease building structures that will hold us over for 20 years, we need stuff that could potentially last 75-100 years.

  3. Were looking to finish mid conf i think.  There are a lot of things up in the air right now.  Our senior QB is out, so we have a red shirted freshman in, though it was possible he was going to be fighting for that top spot.  We lost a few good D players to graduation... one of them is playing for the jag's next year.  Coach does have a fe wtricks up his sleave and this Elon team has been known to surpirse, but with this new coach were still learning what his tendences are so for a prediction on a pass/run game or what too look for i cannot really say

That could be the best thing to every happen to you all...trust us!

Thanks for posting on our board.

  4. If Real Madrid or Man U came to Tampa to play against.... well, anyone.... I'm pretty sure they would sell out too.

Doubt it. I'll be there wearing my Madrid scarf, I might even buy a Robinho jersey.

Interesting blog though, I know that I would rather watch most soccer games over an NHL game but that's only because I didn't grow up in a hockey area. BUT they hockey fans I knew of like soccer too. They kind of belonged to the same counter culture.

  5.  The MLS is joke to fans who are really interested in futbol which are the same people who are willing to invest into season tickets to the game and make the franchise profitable which is what really matters in the end.

I refer to the MLS as the minor leagues for Europe.

I'm just curious how Columbus, SC has a bigger soccer following than Tampa? How could that be?

  6. Went to the US/Ecuador game last Sunday. Drew over 31,000 people. Any possibly plans to bring an MLS team back to Tampa?

I was at the game too. Landon Donovan had an amazing game.

As far as fan support for MLS, I just can't see it. People always say that TB is a huge sports community but only AFTER a team wins a national championship.

No one cares about the Devil Rays, no one cared about the Bolts at the beginning of the season. No one would care if there was an NBA team, so why would anyone care about soccer? Tampa is a football and hockey (if they're winning) town, not the "sports town" everyone makes it to be. My hometown, Seattle, is a sports town. When Real Madrid came to town to play DC United, they sold out seahawks stadium (65,000) even with ticket prices through the roof - and I doubt half the fans were legit Madrid fans, like those Ecuadorean losers.

With that being said, if tampa were to ever get an MLS team, I would have season tickets.

I wanted to throw in my $.02 but it says there is an error, that I'm not allowed to reply. I registered an all but still can't. I don't even have an email confirmation in my inbox. hrm

E.T. - If you're out there - these guys could sure use some stats thrown down their throats.

PS. I love the line about compairing their Offense to WV...who we embarassed. UL has a better offense too...but that defense still scares the hell out of me.

  8. Here is the map of current projects:

    http://usfweb2.usf.edu/FacilitiesPlan/Projects/images/current_projects.pdf

Over by engineering they will be building the Parking Garage IV ... that project was out for bid on Jan 1, so it might be started... the completion date is next spring.

Next Spring??? I have to give up my coveted parking spot I get at 8am cuz they're building a parking garage that will benefit more people? BUT I have to park across the street now!!!
