Here's the thing about BB. Sterling Gilbert does not put him in a position to succeed.

List of things that would help this offense and BB:

    1.Short slant passes

    2. Designed runs to the perimeter

    3. Instead of throwing long a million times have the WR come back to keep the DB honest. (Seemed Tulsa ran our routes all night)

    4. Screens and dump offs to Cronk

    5. More plays for Wilcox

    6. Jet sweeps with our fast as hell WRs

    7. Move Barnett out of the pocket on play action rollouts

    8. Bubble screens that are on the same side of the hash.

    9. Misdirection runs

    10. HB wheel routes

    Anything to add?

Amen, GIVE THE DEFENSE SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT.

  2. Barnett could have had 2 more picks on Friday night, just drops by the Tulsa D. He's getting no protection but when things break down he just piles straight up field, even before things start breaking down, or tries to force it. He showed his resolve in the 4th quarter, coinciding with the scheme change to bring in the extra OL, but I was behind having him benched for a couple of series after halftime because it could have gotten a lot worse. How do we know what the other guys have if we don't see them attempting passes in live game action?

If we continue to try the same gameplan against Houston, we will lose. Bringing in the extra OL was a start. If that yields better protection for Barnett then great. But also, the playcalling on Friday put all of the pressure on Barnett to deliver. We need to give him easier passes down the field (what the hell has happened to the good old fashioned slant??) early, get him in rhtyhm. Get our athletes in space with sweeps, more option plays, any variety on running plays aside from diving up the middle. There is nothing dynamic about the playcalling, it seems to be scripted before the game and when it inevitably starts stalling, no adjustments are made until the 4th quarter. I don' understand how it can be defended. We had 10 points after 3 quarters against TULSA.

That didn’t work out so well against Houston last year, because we found out at the end of the season that there was much more to the playbook than shown. At some point a smart team with good talent will exploit that, and it’ll be too late for a 4th quarter comeback if we keep this pattern up. I’ve heard Barnett fits this system so much better, and I don’t disagree with that, but points on the board would be a great indicator for more proof.

Exactly. Gilbert now has his ferrari so where's the points?

I'm going to throw this out there, but does anyone else think that we are still not showing our entire hand during this relatively soft part of our schedule?  No sweeps, no screens (despite the constant pass rush).  Thoughts?

Glad I'm not the only one. Although we heard that ALL last year that we were not showing our entire hand.

Cincy lucked out vs Ohio. They don't impress me.

Temple does not impress me at all.

Houston struggled against Rice, got blown out badly last week.

When I watch UCF, looks like they have been winning due to having bigger and better athletes so far.

    I see either 10-2 or 11-1.

I think it comes down to UCF game again.

Uh Cincy/Temple will be looking at us and thinking same thing. We've hardly been setting the world alight.

Think we lose to one of Cinci/Temple. Lose to Houston but BEAT UCF!

    10-2

  6. Offensive playcalling for LONG periods yesterday was garbage. Sterlins best game since he was hired was GTech, and it's gone completely down hill since. So predictable, we throw away plays so much. We must utilize our athletes and get the guys with speed in space. No sweeps yesterday, just Big10ing it up the middle for a cloud of dust and the occasional bomb. So obvious to opposing defenses.
