  1. Holtz tanking the program came at the absolute worse time realignment-wise and we have never really recovered the fanbase. At the height of our most recent success with Flowers we still couldn't draw, embarrasingly enough.

It will be TEN YEARS since we fired Leavitt in January 2010, and I don't think we've made one competent hire since. Taggart was brought in to install a smashmouth big 10 offense which looking back is laughable now, he had to completely change his scheme to keep his job then he bolts at the first sign of a new offer. Holtz and Strong speak for themselves.

Obviously Strong's contract is a back breaker, but we have to decide if we concede the rest of the season. I think Kelly lets the rest of the season play out but do we keep Strong if he somehow wins 2 of the remaining 5 and makes a bowl? I don't envy Kelly's job, but he has to make a decision after black friday that might immediately put the fundraising efforts in a hole but will be the best long term.

  2. He was part of the now legendary RB class below. The talk when he declared was that he was a mid-rounder not on talent but on depth of the position. Thought it would be a good class but nobody expected this good. Anyway, Colts are a great franchise and drafting Nelson has been huge for Mack.

    2017 RB draft class:

    4: Leonard Fournette
    8: Christian McCaffrey
    41: Dalvin Cook
    48: Joe Mixon
    67: Alvin Kamara
    86: Kareem Hunt
    105: James Conner
    119: Tarik Cohen
    143: Marlon Mack
    182: Aaron Jones
    249: Chris Carson
    Undrafted: Austin Ekeler
    Undrafted: Matt Breida

Yep. Guy is pretty good at selling (recruiting) but outside that he is mediocre as a HC.  He is a bad version of Ron Zook.

See, I may in the minority here, but is he really that great at recruiting?? No 4 stars or even close to it have signed since he's been here. Saloman was our last one under Taggart, I think Flowers as an athlete was higher than anyone Strong had brought in. Not overly impressed.

  4. Since Joel Miller was, allegedly, punched in 2009, this program has been for the most part crippled by leadership. We've had Holtz, Taggart and Strong. Aside from a player revolt under Taggart who was forced to change his system, we've had sloppy, underperforming, flat teams who occasionally surprise but for the most part disappoint. Now the Taggart years ended up going very well, no thanks to the goat, but Tags left us right at the critical point when we were going to take that next step as a program. I have no doubt if he didn't go to Oregon for that 1 year, we would have at the very least played in the conference championship and gone undefeated, and if he had left for FSU after, we would not have been saddled with Strong.

Point is, Strong is clearly incapable of leading this team. He had 251 days to prepare for wisconsin, and the first thing he says post game was he failed to prepare them. Since he had taken over, from San Jose St to now, its been flat, uninspired, sloppy play that's gotten worse each year. Whether we fire him now or later, he has to go if we are going to grow as a program. The next hire is absolutely critical, let's copy the mickey mouse script. Go young, offensive minded and exciting. That's where college football is now, match that with florida speed and this conference is there for the taking, as it always has been.

    This has been cathartic, thanks.

This crossed my mind too. Blew a chance to gain some kind of momentum for the program. Had a National audience against a name brand opponent, and we put forth one of the worst efforts I can remember. I thought I might have seen flashes of competency on Defense early on in this game, but maybe I was wrong. I doubt Wisconsin will be anything special this year, yet we lose 49-0 to them at home. The offense looks a long way away from being competent as well. Just amazed how bad this was.

We seem to have a knack for doing this recently. The program puts in a TON of effort into promoting this game, getting word out, finally pull a decent crowd in and absolutley lay a MASSIVE egg on national TV.

It's absolutely crushing to any fan momentum, especially in this city. We look absolutely flat and have done since San Jose State 2017.

It will be Macon in the middle with Grier and Boyles scraping. Do you want a championship trophy or give participation trophies?

Championship teams need championship players. There is a reason.that only 4 players from the 16 recruiting class is still on the team.

Although we now have better players for the most part, we did not have depth to field a championship. Not enough quality players in keeps positions. Roberts and Sawtelle could not start in a p5 program. So if we are going to win the American we need players better than the classification we are in.

You must think that every transfer that comes into a program works out 100% of the time. Studsill could be a good player but he had 4 tackles last year and 18 in 2017, not exactly Ed Reed. Could step in and be helpful for depth, but I wouldn't roll out the red carpet and ticker tape parade yet for any of these guys.

And once Sawtelle went down last year, we could not stop anyone. I look at that over what big P5 schools these transfers are coming from, and not getting into the starting line up at.
