  1. Glaring red flag that Dhambuc brought to my attention. Despite seemingly all Lincoln Financial Stadium maps saying the visitor side was Sec. 120, Temple's tiny link provided quite an eye opener. So on that note there we be a good chunk of us in enemy territory.

Maybe we can get a "GREEN" and "GOLD" chant going between Sec. 120 and Sec. 101.

I just bought in 101, so I'm glad to get in on this. Glad to be seeing the Bulls on my home (grew up nearby in Wilmington, DE) turf.

For those not doing the Alumni tailgate (or doing both), what are lot plans?

  2. The show Sprite Step Off follows six step teams as they compete in a national competition to crown one fraternity and one sorority the Sprite Step Off champion. I caught the first couple of episodes online; it turns out the Phi Beta Sigma team on the show is from UCF.

To bring it back home a bit, I'm sure these are guys who our very own George Selvie, who of course is a Sigma, knows.

  3. What's the point of wearing any shirt?  It's clothing.  It would be nice to have an unlimited supply of shirts for the team of our choice, but not everyone does.

    ::)

DP... that was weak.  C'mon.  We're talking about wearing another schools shirt on campus.  If it's just clothing, then why not wear a generic shirt?  What's the point of wearing another schools shirt on campus... are you trying to tell everyone that you are a fan of that school? Really... what's the point?

Do you remember your HS days?  Would it be normal to wear a shirt from another HS?  What message are you trying to send?

"It would be nice to have an unlimited supply of shirts for the team of our choice, but not everyone does."   But someone has enough shirts of another school?  DP!!!! C’mon.  It’s not like all of us wear school shirts everyday.

If some student wearing a UF or FSU shirt on campus is enough to get you all crazed, that's a sign of an inferiority complex and it should be checked out.  Seriously, I'd use my energy on better things than a shirt you wear on an average day such as bringing more people to games.  Hell, even if they decide to wear the wrong school's colors there(which is dumb IMO), at least they are there helping build the fan base.

Well... if that's how UCFers handle it, then fine.  However, I'm not putting up with that BS.  Not at my alma mater.  I have no problem with people wearing other school colors outside of campus or outside a school event to support that team (whether it's because you grew up following them or because your great-grandfather went there).  You support who you want.  However, like I said, what is the purpose of wearing a non-USF shirt on campus? What's the message?  What's the point?  I would never wear a Duke shirt on USF's campus or a USF event... the same thing if I was at Duke.  I give respect to that university and the people who attend/work/teach at that school.  It's a slap in the face wearing/showing school colors of another university on campus.

I will continue to call out people who do it.  I’m not in the minority, nor is UCF (ask them).

Sorry, but you’re in the minority with this subject.

USFan, I've got a question for you. Not coming at you or anything, just an honest curiosity: Now that you attend Duke, do you ever wear USF gear on campus? I ask because that's always been my criticism to the "never ever wear another school's clothing on campus" camp: I realize ht's not the situation of the young lady that wrote the article, but I've got degrees from two universities and now work at a third. I've got all sorts of fan material from both of my alma maters in my office at work, and occasionally wear their paraphernalia to work following a big achievement or before a big game or something to show support. When I attended USF, the same applied for my undergrad institution, and as I put it then, I wish a mfka WOULD tell me there was something wrong with that. Just curious if you're repping for the Bulls--even on campus--in Durham.

  4. speaking of inflated gpa's, although this is going to be about college gpa, not high school i found this might be appropriate. A B+ is worth 3.3 at usf while at UF is worth 3.5. A B- is worth 2.67 where UF does not have a minus system. Strange but true.

Back on the high school "inflation" rant. The extra points are a reward for those who attempt a larger courseload.  There is criteria involved for the teacher and a minimum amount in the curriculum to be covered. In Broward county there was a year in 2003 where honors classes were weighted the same "extra" points as the AP classes. The plan bombed because those taking AP classes dropped them and took the easier courseload in the Honors classes and aced them. In turn, this pushed those who were "rightfully" in the Honors classes further down the totem poll and adversely affecting their performance.  The system was switched back the next year to add 1 point for honors and 2 for ap. i.e., an A in regular = 4.0, Honors = 5.0, AP = 6.0.

When I went to school, both honors and AP were 5.0, and those who were taking AP were doing so for their own benefit/future college credit (imagine that!) I do know, however, that they had to do something with the calculation of GPA because some students would refuse to take any extra-curricular classes (band, choir, etc.) because no honors credit was available for them and heaven forbid someone get JUST a 4.0!  ::)

  5. Use a little bit of logic here fellas.  What you're saying would WORK if EVERYONE WAS TAKING THE SAME COURSEWORK!

I'd take a kid with a "B" in Calc than a kid who made all As and the highest course he passed was geometry!

That's why the system has to do it this way.

Let me try and put it into another perspective which may be easier to get across.

Think of it in a basketball sense.  Who would you bet on to win a winner take all game?

An ACC team with a 20-5 record or a Conference USA team with a 20-5 record?

I think what's erroneous is not that >4.0 grades exist, but that they are stated (whether explicit or implied) that they are on a 4.0 scale. It would make sense if it said "4.5 on a 5.0 scale" or even "4.25 on a 4.5 scale" if a 4.5 would be the highest attainable GPA (as with a student with half AP classes and half regular classes).

  6. Is it bad that I'm not sitting up nights worrying about whether Marshall likes USF, or whether or not Woolard (that's the correct spelling, kids) is moving fast enough to appease the folks who have nothing better to do than surf the web 24/7?  Or, worse, that I confidently accept the situation we're in and know that we've got proven leadership that will do everything they can to right the ship?

Fact is, guys, the USF Men's Basketball Program and it's Head Coaching Vacancy is what it is.  No amount of spin, wishing, rubbing magic lamps, voodoo, money, or message board ******** is going to bring a coach here if he doesn't want to enter the situation.  Personally?  I don't want a coach not up to the challenge, regardless of whether his name is Marshall, Doherty, Auerbach, or Jesus Christ.

I don't know... i think i'd take Jesus Christ as my coach in a heartbeat, even if he didn't give his all, we'd still go 34-0 every year, and never miss a free throw.  And we'd beat down Duke Blue Devils every year, just out of principle.  ;)

I don't know, man, Jesus Christ never had the size to take on the big men under the net.  Plus, his team would get called for Walking (on water) every game...

    *Badda bing!*

Thank you, I'll be here all week, tip your waitress.

Jesus wouldn't have to take on big men under the net... he'd be the coach, not the power forward... although i don't doubt he coudl do that too, if he'd be willing to don some Nike's instead of sandals.

Jesus would only have to motivate the players (should be the best at that) ,

and scream obsenities at the ref... that might be the sticking point.

Would His obscenities be things like "Me!" and "Dad **** It!"?

  7. I asked that over on the HOT message board shortly after the end of football season. Here's a response from one of the ADs:

    I've read it.

We wanted to do it last year, but there are two major issues. One is, by April, we are logistically 'shut down' for the year. The only instruments still checked out are Show Band's. The other consideration is that with the game in a large venue like RayJay, we need 100+ winds and percussion to properly represent ourselves and fill that huge place with sound. Show Band just wouldn't sound good in there.

But yes...D-Rob and I are working on those two things.

  8. --Bulliever: I know you have mentioned before not promoting commercial ventures that aren't advertising on the site, so if this violates that, I apologize and would be glad to remove. I just wanted to make Bulls available of something I stumbled across--

I was on the website for Target.com looking at various seating options and happened to stumble across this gem:

    http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=1-20/qid=1174330971/ref=sr_1_20/602-5460064-2687833?ie=UTF8&asin=B000FO0Q8C

  9. If another player from another team held HIS nuts towards USF, you people would be flipping, but when Amarri does it we should just dismiss it as a joke?

ANYONE'S nuts being held in the direction of my Alma Mater is the ultimate in disrespect and should be treated as so.

It seems you and I are interpreting it differently. I didn't take it as nuts being held TOWARDS USF; I figured it was nuts being held in general. I'd take offense as well, if I felt that's what he meant, but I believe in both cases he was merely posturing; after all, after he dismissed it as a joke, he was still holding his nuts.
