Tom Herman was 32-18 at Texas.

    Chuck Strong 16-21 at Texas.

Chuck only recruited FL because of the one dude from Miami who feathered the line on recruiting. I'm sure someone knows the name?

Herman can hire guys for FL and it would be nice to get into Texas, so we start pulling guys from that state.

Yeah, the guy who was privately committed to Jim Leavitt at USF before it was all ruined... Strong hadn't convinced him to go to rhe Ville until a while after Leavitt was fired.

Nice! Think he may now be used to Florida. I would not mind seeing Holtz part 2 at USF. He did beat Notre Dame, Clemson, Miami

Leavitt's players and residual culture beat those teams. Holtz was smart to avoid making wholesale changes, but I would say the wins were while he was at the helm. The team was left in much worse shape as Leavitt's players graduated and Holtz was recruiting like he was in the MEAC. Please do not bring the Holtz New Error back.

Or we could just go with what we know about his 4 years of public decisions, recognize this is probably not the one example of him not catastrophically failing and move on to someone that may actually be successful. This is in contrast to instead of allowing him to make several other impactful failures and then waiting for his replacement to buy himself infinite time by releasing the information and showing that just by virtue of not being the worst, as measured by results, in the history of college athletics he isn’t so bad. MK has been here 4 yrs what’s your favorite three moments from FB or basketball in those 4 years and now how many of those have taken place in the last year? The last two years? The last three years?

I feel like something terrible must have happened in your USF past to cause you to foment so much vitriol. Did you get a 3.99 GPA at USF? Did you get a 2nd place finish for Homecoming King? Did they bulldoze your dorm after you left so you can't visit anymore? Did you lose a campaign for student body president by 1 vote? Whatever it is, mate, we'll get through it together. I've got a bottle of Jack with your name on it.

There is just no way that’s true. If you have a billion dollar contract with $1 guaranteed dollar you have a $1 contract. We know for a fact that the secondary contract was amended with the change in the new contract and we also know that most of any buyout money in the state of florida exists there. CJS knew he wasn’t doing great here and if someone wants to make your buyout more favorable to them at a time when you haven’t started to be successful that’s a giant red flag to refuse the contract and wait for your pay day they seem to already be planning. Is it really unfathomable to you that someone who made what was universally panned as a horrible idea and is getting peppered with with questions about failure would be willing to do something financially significant to take the heat off of themselves when they know the proof of the degree to which they have failed is likely not to see the light of day?

There is definitely a way that it is true. You may not want to believe it, as a "glass fully empty" type. There are many reasons not to make it public, including avoiding deterrence of future interest.

I just really think at this point we need to hire a name that is going to make a splash. If you were going to hire a guy that is going to turn the program around and take it to like 4-6 wins next year and you can do that with a no-name guy or a name why not do it with a guy who can also create some buzz? It’s like you’re getting extra for the same result. And our program need some excitement right now

Immediate splash not nearly as important as ultimate runs of splashes, IMHO.

Does anyone still believe that the super secret secondary contract wasn’t impacted positively by the extension since it was resigned in January of this year? Why would anybody accept a negotiation down of guaranteed money while sitting on three wins to their name? CJS definitely got more money for no apparent reason other than VPMK doing VPMK like things.

I think that if the terms ever get out publicly, we will all see that the terms were reasonably favorable to USF in the case that MK chose termination. Will miss CJS as a person, but taking the chance on him was worth the relatively mild hit USF will take financially. Remember, the Foundation is in a very favorable position. We won't hurt as much this time around from paying a coach a bit not to coach as in the past.

I'm a bit surprised that there was an impression that a hire would come this quickly.

Agreed. Would want MK to take all the time he needs. In addition, coaches may or may not want to be interviewing at this point in the season with plenty of uncertainty this time of year regarding records and employment yet to be determined. Last hire it seemed MK probably made a beeline for an excellent candidate profile. May be a bit wary on coordinators without HC experience, may not. But either way, lots of dominoes to fall still, and early action gives plenty of time to field and engage with possibly interested parties. While a beeline could be successful, wouldn't hold it against MK for maximizing time to field interest, vet candidates, and make the best pick possible. Not a drawback to take his time at all.

    Gotta get the Stadium built.

    1) Urban Meyers (already lives in area.

    2) Tom Hermen

    3) Matt Ruhle

    4) Simmons ( FAMU)

    5) Kendall Briles

    6) Scott Frost (he really recruited well in Fla)

    "Desperate times breeds desperate Actions"

    A man can dream

Oh boy I can't disagree more with this list.

Why don't you add the gap-toothed obnoxious jackwagon from Rutgers, Greg Schiano? Then he can chop and fake kneel our way to to the perennial Bottom 10... not that we would have to do much but stay on track to stay there.

I see has-beens, couldn't-hack-its, and bad apples on that list. Simmons is about the only one I would give a shot to. Briles has the possible look of a HC in the making, but hasn't proven much yet with stops almost every year somewhere new and no sustained success anywhere. Would let that one go somewhere else and prove something first.

I would take Dan Mullen before I'd take any of those on that list, and you won't find me stumping for Dan Mullen outside the Athletics building.

  9. I would add:

    1) Strong vested interest in USF Athletics and USF the university

    2) Demonstrates interest in the history and identity of the program, and works to build it back up rather than ensure the spotlight is only wide enough for them (avoid something like Willie T "it's all about me")

    3) Ability and interest to socialize with and shmooze donors, potential donors, Tampa leaders and corporations to help continue to ingratiate USF Athletics with stakeholders in Tampa Bay

    4) Ideally, but more of a want - can see themselves sticking around for more than 3-4 years to build something great here, rather than seeing USF solely as a stepping stone. Very difficult to find that, but I think we could find the money to keep a coach who wins here and gets overtures from outside the program
