  1. Guys, you are dillusional if you believe ND will come into RJS to play US in the next 15 years. This is ND, they can play anyone anywhere and sellout in 5 mins.

They said last year that they are easing up on their schedule and with the 12th game they have said they hope to maintain 7-8 home games a year.

The games they have played on the road are those that are against "established programs" that ND has deemed worthy and historic enough to travel to. If they played a young program like ours on the road their boosters would go CRAZY. Too much money in that program to not listen to them.

They play Nevada at home in 2009 and their boosters went batty over the fact that is was not a "traditional" program when added to the schedule...

I forsee the contract playing out to being a Pitt and Syracuse deal rotating home games, with the remaining teams having to travel to South Bend to play the Irish.

  2. 1) Memphis, never, the school is the armpit of acadmemics (we already have Louisville, isn't that enough)

2)Navy would never join a conference (see Army leaving C-USA)...this is not considerable

    3)Bowling Green - see Memphis

    4) UAB - possibly academics are getting better, school spends on athletics, good size TV market (30 something)

    5) Miami (OH) - best school academically (besides Navy), realistically they are committed to the MAC, but if a BCS bid could be grasp they might. Town is SMALL

    6) Marshall - heh, no TV market, academics suck

7)Toledo - Possibly, decent school in all aspects, founded MAC, decent market TV wise

    8) ECU - would like this if they get their football program in shape, once again small TV market

    9) UCF...Big East is built on TV markets, Orlando is 19th...clearly the biggest of the "realistic teams" decent academics

The Big East has built its new league on TV markets Louisville, Tampa, Cincinnati, etc. It's their biggest argument when it comes up for BCS reconsideration, no doubt in my mind UAB, Memphis, or UCF will be the 9th team if they add one because of TV markets. My gut feeling would lie with UCF...but you never know.

  3. well Fla/Ga pay because of conference obligations...FSU/Fla (FSU beating FLA most the times, including a very controversal 2003 game) continues and will forever. There is no doubt in my mond that this series lasts beyond next season, draws well, its easy to schedule because UCF wants it, travel costs are cheap, and it will be the exclusive rivalry for both schools down the road (most wont accept it now).

I believe the Big East will add another football team by 2010 for scheduling purposes, its gonna hurt the league more having to schedule 5 games a year.

  4. While I belive they needed to lock him up for recruiting purposes, signing him like this wasn't the "greatest" idea. Weis has beaten one ranked team, 1 team with a winning record, and lost two other games. I'm not saying he isn't good, but there comes a point where you say wait a minute lets see how this pans out. Willingham started 8-0 although he did not blow anyone out of the water he did play 5 ranked teams in his 1st 8 games.

  5. With the Glazers' business sense you'd think they'd see the opportunity here to appease everyone and make more money. Build some nice dorms in a corner parcel of the mall lot where they're building the training facility. They could use these for their training camp and then in the fall rent them out to students on Fridays of game weekends. They could get **** faced and then stumble over for the game on Saturday.

Heck, even rent them to them on Saturday nights of Buc home games too so they could get **** faced again and then stumble over to the stadium on Sunday. Apparently this is the most important part of the experience since some seem too put out to drive 15 minutes to actually attend the game ...

    Triple your arrogant...

Read any of my posts, I have never said getting drunk and stumbling over to games is the reason for an on campus stadium. I fact only ONE person said that and he's banned...

I believe an OCS is needed for ENVIRONMENT. Cars sprawled across campus, people cooking everwhere. The student union right there. Parking on campus 2-3 days before a big game in your RV. Staying after the game w/o getting chased out by TSA to watch other games on TV or to talk about your game. Having your OWN venue to be proud of and hopefully hear other teams say, "You can't go into USF Stadium, that place is a madhouse."

Are adult beverages part of it, yes for some people, but they aren't necessary.

However, RJS does not offer it, it feels so mechanical. Arrive 2 hours before the game. Set up quickly. Hang out. Go into the game. Stay quiet and sit on your hands in a CAVERNOUS stadium dressed for another team for most the game. Leave, go out to your car, be chased off by TSA id you stick around or wait in traffic.

If you have never been to another school for an on campus gameday atmosphere check it out, its special.

  6. South Carolina does play on campus...it might not be in the middle of everything but it is on Campus owned property about a mile from my best friend's dorm.

UCLA cannot play on campus for the same reason Miami can't...no room. They are talking of building their own stadium across from campus.

There is a major difference between a 15 mile drive and 1 mile drive...

Once again, for the viability of this football program we're gonna need an OCS...maybe not right now...but in 5-10 years we need to have the plans drawn and an idea of a groundbreaking date.

  7. I challenge you to name one Top 25 college football program that plays its home games in a professional football stadium.

USC (no, LA doesn't have a pro football team right now, but the stadium is a pro football stadium. okay, technically an Olympics facility).

    Minnesota

    So there's two. Or 1 1/2.

The Colissuem actually was used for COLLEGE football 1st, pro team wasn't added until 1960s. In fact Al Davis's major gripe was that the LAC was more a college stadium than pro....USC's Stadium is all their's and if you have never been you wouldn't be able to tell it wasn't on campus if you didn't know.

Minnesota is moving on campus in 2008 in a 60,000 stadium designed just for them. Further when in the Metrodome for a Minnesota game you could never tell that the Vikings and Twins play there...

  8. Well we aren't a "media program" yet. We did get respect the week after it happened, but after laying eggs v. Miami and Pittsburgh the bandwagon is lighter. Further our other two wins are UCF and FAMU...nothing to write home about.

We need to KILL Rutgers and then we can possibly start getting some BCS love...
