  1. i wouldn't put too much stock into what he says, we're rebuilding, you can't expect our conference to recover this quickly after losing va tech and miami. it's something the media likes to talk about, something else they can ***** about besides not having a playoff system, but the bottomline is if the bcs wanted to exclude the big east it would've been after last year and they wouldn't have given us an oppurtunity to prove ourselves. besides his point is moot west va will most likely go 9-2 or 8-3, making 2/8 in the top 25.
  2. i don't post here often but i think you make some valid points i think the key to usf winning is to 1. defense must play disciplined and not overpursue, that freshman rb smith has decent speed and we don't need to give them any gimme touchdowns on long runs, if they want to score make ucf dink and dunk it down the field. 2. penalties, keep the emotions semi in check, no dumb personal foul penalties that keep drives alive, so far we're much improved than last year, during the first half of the famu game i believe we only had 2 penalties, then we started bringing in the subs. 3. win turnover battle, pj needs to make smart decisions with the ball and hall can't cough it up like he did against famu. 4. convert on third down, this is where pj really needs to step it up and become consistent, we need to get better at sustaining drives and keeping the defense off the field. 5. special teams needs to come up with a big play or two and our new kicker needs to step it up. if we do most of these, it should be a 2 touchdown victory, the ucf game is worrisome and i'm glad its at home, but if our defense stays aggressive and hall gets his yards we should be okay. i do know leavitt's not taking this game lightly, this should be a very entertaining game.
  3. you're kidding right? btw, message to smazza these half ass posts are getting really annoying, why the moderators allow you to clutter up this board with your dyslexic fragmented posts is beyond me, i hope your cutting bulliever a nice check. we get it you don't like the hire, move on with your life, no one gives a sh** what you think.
  4. not so, the few who've watched practice have seen denson play, and it's pretty apparent that pj won't see the field next year. you'll all be pleasantly surprised with denson he's an exciting player to watch and is a reason for a lot of the optimism. btw, most of the players who committed those idiotic penalties, horrible tackling, and dropped passes graduated or have been deemphasized this spring (i.e. camon, garris, gipson, battles, bain, verpaele... errr wait scratch that last one)
  5. wow, this meltdown has gone way past being comical. it's just a coach, let it go.
  6. our defense was bad last year, no doubt about that. but the most frustrating part of last year, besides the penalties, were those momentum killing three and outs, it seemed like every time the defense came up with a good play the offense would sputter. as bad as we were, we still should have been bowl elgible, if we punch it in against s. miss after the blocked punt we win that game, and obviously there's peyton's drop and second half defensive meltdown against army. 6 games is not too much to ask for this team, offensively our scheme has been retooled to fit either denson/grothe/hill, it doesn't take a genius to figure out pj is out at qb. our receivers are solid, expect the staff to get the ball in carlton hil's hands one way or the other, and of course we have hall at rb. defensively, we can expect to see an improved lb choir with coleman and mompremier getting more playing time, jenkins will be much improved and brown held his own last year, plus johnnie jones in the secondary providing much needed leadership and pop. t. jones will help stabilize the line, look for royal to have a breakout year and i wouldn't be surprised to see julmiste and buie playing big roles as well.
  7. doesn't surprise me, in our history these types of publications haven't been too kind to the bulls and we've proved them wrong more times than not. i say 6-5, have some pride. an 0-11 team that's playing in ray jay a tossup game? ???
  8. err... okay, stop and think for a minute we have 3 months before football season starts, dimel wasn't going to learn the offense in that time, franks wasn't interested because its not an offense he's comfortable in plus he's more valuable as a recruiting coordinator, who else would you geniuses have picked? like it or not, hobbie's sudden resignation put us in this bind, leavitt is just doing the best with the cards he's been dealt. smith is the pass game coordinator, he already knows the offense like the back of his hand. face it inexperienced or not he was our best option. i'm not happy about having private pyle as our oc either, but hobbie wasn't exactly doing a bang up job last year, maybe this change will be for the better. give smith a chance to prove himself before you start condemning this hire. personally, i would've liked to have seen leavitt can hobbie after the recruiting season and maybe we could've had a chance at dimel or someone with experience, but that wasn't the case and now he's forced to scramble.
  9. macullum and this program badly needed this recruit, this was our one best chance to get a player of this caliber and it doesn't look like it's going to happen. i get the feeling he'll be joining the long list of recruits who chose bigger named schools only to see them regret their decision.
  10. according to the pitt rivals board, wannestadt said although they are interested in him he's probably going to a team he liked coming out of high school, great news for us considering nc state and auburn have upcoming games against tennessee.
  11. good god he looks like private pyle from full metal jacket, oh well, hope leavitt knows what he's doing.
  12. i seriously hope this is another one of them fake april fool's day posts, no one can convince me that this is a good thing.
  13. if ok state steals him at the last second, i will be pissed. >
  14. no offense but this reminds me of.... Chubbs: Golf requires concentration and focus. Happy Gilmore: Golf requires goofy pants and a fat ass. You should talk to my neighbor the accountant. Probably a great golfer. Huge ass. just replace golf with bowling and goofy pants with a plate of nachos and you're all set. http://www.bushwood.net/gilmore/happy007.JPG
  15. in all fairness, it's pretty much just one ucf fan who believes the tampa tribune is a usf propaganda machine (who also happens to unhealthily reside in south tampa, which adds to his problem). i agree, it's better to do this the right way, we need to build this program for the long haul. hopefully that new marketing campaign they keep talking about will be successful. even with a lackluster season, with proper marketing we can honestly expect a 40,000 attendance avg. this year and that in itself will do much more in terms of perception than any budget increase. i'm just glad we're finally getting the sun dome renovated and possibly a new baseball field.
  16. the title's a bit misleading, getting the 50 million in upgrades is more important than how much our athletic budget went up. to my knowledge, we haven't gotten any big east revenue yet, so why is he whining about our athletic budget increase?
  17. the schaeffer sweepstakes is starting to turn into a circus, it seems like his list of interested teams changes every week and there seems to be a lot of misinformation running around. i still say he comes here, although our qb position is starting to look a bit crowded. he may want to declare as early as possible just so he can get the media to quit hounding him and his family.
  18. i agree, i hope woolard got his money's worth, we lost a lot in public perception by showcasing an empty stadium on national tv, while getting pummelled by pitt and memphis.
  19. great post, if the famu game brings in 50,000 or so it would be a big success for both of our programs and i wouldn't be surprised if it became an annual event. lee roy got us into the big east and i'll always be grateful for that, but woolard has really taken charge since he's been here the miami series, fiu 2 for one, unc series, facility upgrades, things are looking up for usf. if the ucf series sells out the lower bowl (and barring any hurricanes), we're looking at a potential 40,000 attendance avg. for the year.
  20. i still think he ends up at usf, we run the spread, the same type of offense he ran in high school and one pretty much tailor made to his strengths. miami may have a shaky qb situation but the two they've got were ranked far higher than schaeffer coming out of college and you know they'll reload again this year. judging from his coach's comments, we're the front runners until proven otherwise. i'd love to have him he has superstar talent, but if things don't work out i'll still be happy with the qb's we have on our roster. How come no one has really given denson much of a chance? he ran the spread in hs and was a super prep all american. the coaches are on record saying that he was their number 1 qb target coming out of high school. people seem to forget he was supposed to be the next michael vick at vatech until marcus signed. leavitt was raving about his maturity and work ethic, what's the problem? the only knocks so far was his arm strength and height (sounds similar to blackwell and joe hamilton), what has he done that's making him an afterthought in many people's minds?
  21. all things being equal, (and i'm a big fan of schaeffer) if schaeffer doesn't significantly beat out grothe, or hill, you go with the people who made a committment to usf out of high school. remember, schaeffer rejected us we weren't even in his final top 3. grothe especially never wavered in his committment to this program and that should mean something. i'll always be more partial to either of them starting over a transfer.
  22. agreed, the job isn't his until he earns it and matt grothe, carlton hill, and denson are all talented and will have more experience in the system, however you do whatever it takes to bring him in and you let the best qb win the job. being closer to home and not isolated in knoxville, would be in his best interest as well.
  23. if that's true then what does that say about our program? we're playing in the big east so exposure and competition isn't a problem, we're renovating the sundome, he obviously wants to stay in state more than anything, fsu has stopped recruiting him and florida has filled their scholarships, and you still think we only have a less than 10% chance to get him? we're defintely the dark horse canidate but we have a legitimate shot, i wouldn't underestimate our chances.
  24. well that's reassuring, the program really needs this guy, i felt good about our chances until ok state came in out of nowhere, hopefully our loyalty to him wins out. i remember reading that he was a very private person and he strongly favors staying in state, if we miss out on him this will sting for a long time. even if he only stays a couple of years, he can bring in better recruits, fans, and help make us a respectable team in the big east.
  25. are you sure about that 3.5 gpa, he had an awful lot of academic suspensions his junior year. if he jumps ship to ok state, this would be much worse than losing out on a schaeffer/ingram/jean-francois, florida doesn't produce many players like brumbaugh and especially with florida and fl-state giving up on this kid. when will we be able to have a legitimate shot at a recruit of this caliber again? the program needs this recruit and so does mccullum. on paper usf should be the best fit for him, comfortable and familiar environment, plenty of exposure playing in the big east, he'll be the focal point of the team unlike ok state. if anything usf gives him the best situation to quickly get into the pros. however he does fill a hole at small forward left by the grahm twins.
