So the premise is losing begets losing and winning begets winning (true). But the conclusion is that given enough time, losing will beget winning just as soon as the person that has only ever lost teaches everyone else how to win?

No, not what I’m saying. I don’t believe CJS can teach them to win. He can put them in the best position to win (I do agree he has not always succeeded in this). Winning needs to come internally. The team has to figure it out. Someone who plays on the field has to lead them most likely. Coaches can only do so much. That’s the point.

  2. What I see happening is the creation of 3 levels with close to 40 teams each. The BiG and SEC will have 20 teams each making up 40. A mid tier with the remnants of the power 5 conferences and possibly some add-on teams like our beloved Bulls making up two more mega conferences of 20 each. Then a bottom tier with the rest. Something like this. All the powerhouse programs are consolidating power and money and we are being left out, but we aren’t the only ones. Lots of previous power 5 teams will be left out as well and pushed down to mid tier. That’s the way it was in reality anyway. This just formalizes things.

I'm not a big fan of Timmy's arm altogether. But if you see something I don't than I have hope that he is actually a decent thrower. My eyes see a better arm in Bohanon, but I just care about either one of our top 3 QBs hitting a receiver.

What I saw was Timmy has a good arm and when he has a good read can throw a pretty good ball.  His problem was youth and not being a great reader of defenses.  That will come with time.  He will/would make a big jump in this in his sophomore season I'm sure but will it be enough to catch GB??  GB was surrounded by better talent around the field and placing him here might not yield the jump many think.  If you put QB TMcC what would it look like?  We don't know.  TMcC might be better stacked side by side with GB.  That is a very real possibility.  It isn't easy to compare two QB's from two different teams.  There is team chemistry and chemistry with the receivers, OL talent, scheme, and so on.  It isn't as cut and dry as we might think.  I seriously believe GB starting is far from a done deal at this point and I hope CJS doesn't just hand him the job.

  4. My guess is that Murphy hits the portal at the end of this year and the team hits the cellar yet again.  :(

Of course, we are already in the cellar so I'm not sure where else we can go.

  5. Who did you contact? I tried for the first time as well and called a number i found on the internet about season tickets and no one called me back :( . I’m new to the process as well and was shocked when no one called me back. If other people have had this trouble no wonder our ticket sales are down

  6. I rarely if ever comment on this board though I frequent it every day.  I enjoy the comments and the fact that we are all passionate about USF and the athletics programs at the school.  But this thread absolutely takes the cake and is so bush league.  Listen fellow USF lovers, this guy misrepresented himself and kudos to USF for calling him on it.  This doesn't make USF look bad, this makes us awesome.  That our school wants to do it right and anything else will not be tolerated.  If I was a potential coach I would want to come and coach here all the more. We will find a great coach.  Calm down :)

  7. You can't blame just one guy for that loss-- the Gators took it to them.

Smith is a quality player and will still have some impact in the NFL as long as he finds the right team. He's got a rocket for an arm and can really move.

I don't get why people feel the need to compare Grothe to every QB all the time. Matt had a nice year and really showed us he is a great competitor. I'll be happy to let his play on the field do his talking and avoid trying to hype him up beyond that.

exactly.  troy had absolutely no time to do anything last night.  its not his fault his line had absolutely no containment on uf's defensive ends.  and ohiobull, how in the hell is usc less than stellar?  were you watching the same rose bowl i was?

Uh, who was USC playing.  Oh yea, Michigan.  And who did Michigan beat this year that shows they are a good team.  Well, they did play Notre Dame.  Oh  yea, not a good team.  They did beat a good Wisconsin team.  But winning one game does not make a great season.

And I was not the one who started the comparisons between QB's.  My point is to end the discussion.  I live in Ohio and all I heard the last few weeks was OSU this, OSU that, Troy Smith this, Troy Smith that, and then I get on USF's beloved message board a few weeks back and people are talking about taking TS over MG.  Sorry, but I lost my cool.  I knew OSU played no one this year and I knew that Troy Smith was overrated.  Bottom line, Troy Smith is a good QB but he is far from the best QB in the nation.  Point proven the other night.  And frankly, like I said, I would not take Troy Smith over MG even if he had a good game the other night.  I wish people would just be thrilled, over-joyed with who we have as our QB and shut their traps about taking someone else over him.  If you haven't noticed, our sophmore QB is listed at #25 on the heisman list for next year.  We have something good going on and the other schools are the ones who should be saying that they would take MG over their QB...not the other way around.

  8. I think it may be the opposite...UF's championship will help USF.  How you ask.  Because Florida, like Miami did, will be more inclined to go out of state to get the really big fish.  In so doing they will lose more and more of their own back yard.  USF needs to remember this lesson.  We need to own our area and get the good Florida players to stay home.  Did you see that Florida speed vs. that Ohio speed.  I don't think so.  USF will pick up a few more Florida studs while Florida goes outside the state.  This will only help us.

  9. Ok, about a month ago there was some discussion about taking Troy Smith over Grothe.  I said there is no way that I would take Troy Smith over Grothe.  I stated, and accurately I might add, that Troy Smith was severely overrated and so was Ohio State.  I clearly made the argument that Ohio State had not beaten anyone this year.  I outlined how Ohio State had beaten Texas...big deal.  Rutgers dismantled Kansas State who beat Texas.  Michigan turned out to be way overrated as well and was dismanted by a less than stellar USC team.  Now, where are these people who said I was crazy.  Come on, lets hear it.  TROY SMITH IS AND WAS OVERRATED.  He threw off of his back foot all night, even when he wasn't pressured.  He missed reads, didn't step into the pocket, and on and on and on.  I will give you that Florida's defense was awesome last night but the bottom line is that Troy Smith is not the best quarterback in the nation and Ohio State isn't even close to the best team in the nation.  In fact, would they even be in the top 10...I doubt it.  I would fancy to say that USF played a harder schedule then OSU this year.

Bottom line for all you "the grass is greener on the other side" people.  Matt Grothe is an absolutely awesome quarterback and he would have proved that last night against the Gators.  Just be happy with who we have at the helm and look forward to next year.  Stop looking at what other teams have and start looking at the diamond in our own back yard.

Someone needs to eat some crow here.  Come on...it tastes good.

    Go Bulls!

  10. I have to admit it...I have given into the hatred and the fear.  I have been seduced by the dark-side.  I am a very patient guy and sat through some absolutely horrible years in the mid-to-late 80's waiting for Radenko Dobras to give us new life.  But we are past hope here.  This is not the SunBelt Conference and we need some big guns.  Let me just say it plainly, we need a new coach with a PROVEN record of bringing in some big horses.  Money or not, we need to compete.  Let's get it done, NOW!

Oh, I feel so ashamed.  I didn't think this day would ever come.   :'(

  11. I wouldn't believe the hype of this article.  You did see how Louisville did without Brohm earlier in the year didn't you?  They are stacked a couple deep at every position.  This team will be good / great next year with or without these players thay may leave early.  The article was from a wishful thinkful in my opinion.  Louisville is here to stay.

  12. Who here watched the WV - Rutgers game on Saturday night?  What a game!  I think the backup QB for WV was absolutely outstanding for a RS Freshman.  It looks like WV is going to be stacked at that position for years to come.  In some ways he looked like a more polished passer than PW and was also a bruising runner.  A little bigger than PW.

Don't get me wrong.  I wouldn't trade Grothe for him but he did do a nice job.
