  1. Very VERY well said. Bill Simmons once said "Rooting for the Yankees is like rooting for the house in blackjack." There's a reason why the 29 other teams hate the Yankees, and it's NOT because they win. It's because they damage the competitive balance of the game in order to do so. I don't care if the Red Sox NEVER make it to the playoffs again as long as I live and if the Yankees win the next 25 world series. The Yankees have, do, and always will suck as long as Steinbrenner uses the rest of the Majors as his farm system. You don't have to lose to suck. You just need to destroy the very fabric of the game you're competing in. With this criteria, the Yankees SUCK!
  2. I didn't CONDEMN Hollywood for changing the story. Sheesh! Where in my post did you get that idea? Was it when I called it "Interesting??" When did "Interesting" become a synonym for "Hoosiers Sucked Because It Wasn't Close To The Real Story?" I just figured it would be interesting reading to those who weren't familiar with the true story and how it compared to the original. You need to stop reading so much into my posts. Good Lord.
  3. ****, I like KnightsRule when we aren't discussing UCF. =)
  4. By the way, the three pitchers that replaced Clemens, Pettitte, and Wells (53 wins) have a combined total of 27 wins (counting Lieber's 6 wins in 2002). That's a pitching deficit of 26 games. Will A-Rod and Sheff provide the pop that the Yanks didn't have in 2003 to make up that difference? I personally don't think so. Just FYI.
  5. I was generalizing. Yes, they have decent pitching. Nowhere near what they had last year. Pettite, Clemens, and Wells were good for 53 wins last year combined. Can Brown, Vasquez, and Lieber match that? I have serious doubts. The Devil Rays? Yeah. The Cubs, Astros, or Sox? Nope. No, I'm the one claiming that the Yankees are worse than last year (even with A-Rod) and that the Sox are better off.  Maybe, maybe not. He was put on waivers and nobody wanted him, not even the Mighty Yankees that he supposedly loves so much. Hopefully, than humbles him and he gets down to business. We shall see. Either way, it's gonna be a hell of a year! ;D
  6. Fact is, your staff is nowhere NEAR what it was last year, while the Sox have upgraded tremendously and now have arguably the best pitching staff in the majors, with the possible exception of the Cubs. Lieber hasn't pitched in two years, Kevin Brown is an injury magnet, and the Sox TEED OFF on Contreras last year (check the stats). Aside from Mussina, who is a stud, and Vasquez, who is a question mark from a NY Pressure standpoint, your staff is marginal at best. I'm salivating thinking of the Sox teeing off on pinstripe pitching! And, egos aside, the Sox offense last year was the best in the Majors since the 27 Yanks, and the only person of note we lost was Todd Walker. I'm not worried about my house. ;D
  7. Interesting comparison between the movie and real life: http://espn.go.com/page2/s/closer/020327.html
  8. And, just FYI, the longest streaks since last winning a championship: MLB: Chicago Cubs (95 years) NFL: Arizona Cardinals (56 years) NHL: Chicago Blackhawks (43 years) NBA: Sacramento Kings (52 years)
  9. Question was "without a championship" though, not the longest drought. http://quinnell.us/sports/ This site has sections for each major sport, with a "Streak without a championship" section for each. The Texas Rangers have gone 43 years of existence without winning a championship. The Astros are right behind them at 41 years. The Minnesota Vikings have never won a championship in 42 years of existence. They're the longest in the NFL. NBA? The Denver Nuggets, the Indiana Pacers, and New Jersey Nets have all never won a championship in their existence (36 years), the longest in the NBA. Hockey? The LA Kings and St. Louis Blues have gone 37 years of existence without a championship.
  10. Sox will be fine. Yanks have NO pitching. Kevin Brown will break down after 5 starts. Ego proglems between Lofton/Williams, Jeter/Arod, etc. break the Yankees to pieces. Sox win the division by 5 games GO SOX!
  11. Yankees Suck. The day Steinbrenner kicks the bucket, I will have Bern's Steakhouse come to my house and cater a complementary party for all Red Sox fans. Open bar, too.
