the Tweet is upsetting but some of the comments here are ignorant asf.

    1. these players risk their minds & bodies out there. just to get to college-level of play, most football players have had their bodies banged around for over a decade taking hits to their heads & bodies. science is increasingly showing that even the hits sustained at middle- & high school level can do permanent damage to the brain. there are players out there that can't walk, can't remember words, can't control their emotions because of the damage done to their bodies from football. HONOR THEM.

    2. "Free education" ? no, they WORKED for it putting in days in the gym, in practice, on the field, on buses & planes traveling... All of which results in a marketable product that generates revenue for the university & takes time out of the classroom where they supposedly get their "free" education. also, NOT ALL PLAYERS ARE ON SCHOLARSHIP.

    3. I ABSOLUTELY AGREE that there should be guidelines about which players get alum tickets, but those guidelines & any subsequent changes should be clearly stated IN ADVANCE. a former player with an alumni ticket should NEVER make the trip to ***HOMECOMING*** & be turned away with no explanation. ***IF*** that's actually what happened, shame on USF.

    4. the Bulls have sold out ONE game. ONE. in 21 seasons. this season they're averaging ~30k per game. More than half the stadium is empty. those empty seats aren't generating money, but an alumni section would at least sell concessions & gear/souvenirs for family. it would also make a few less red seats visible on TV.

    5. Yes, there are a lot of former players, but not all of them attend all games. plenty live out of state or simply can't make the games.

    6. Before insulting this former player, notice how he ended his tweet: "GO BULLS!!" he's disappointed & venting his frustration, but HE IS STILL CHEERING HIS ALMA MATER.

it's amazing that so many non-player alumni & fans here who supposedly "bleed green & gold" & whose Saturdays revolve around USF football 3 months out of the year treat the players as disposable. i LOATHE sounding like a whiny liberal here (sorry for the MadCow material) but a lot of these responses sound a lot like the "shut up & play ball" attitude that has become a shameful part of our national dialogue... & once they are no longer playing, it's just "shut up & appreciate the opportunity we gave u to entertain us."

    BE BETTER THAN THAT.

I wholeheartedly agree with you 100%.  While I do not know the full circumstances, if this is validated then ot is the nature of society right now.

Doesn't matter if you're liberal, conservative, black, white, or something in between...this is how we are treating one another right now.  No one cares any more.

Thousands of empty seats and we can't make concessions???

Todd...I will apologize for the rest of the bulls family.  I fully remeber who you are and how much you gave to our school and community.  Please remember...ni matter how crappy the world is, there are good people and people who cares.

  2. There's no way we are saving plays..it is mid-season.  That seems illogical and makes no sense.

I think Gilbert should be to blamed for the offensive performances as he is the leader of the offense.  Just like if your sales are down, you would put the "onus" on the manager first, then move up the chain of command.

But the problem is a full-body of work.  I believe we haven't seen more variety in play-calling is because everything starts in the trenches.  And right now those guys can't seem to get it together.  And it is the whole group.  Watching the Tulsa game, Norman and Atterbury were having major difficulties.  Although, I believe their struggles is not only their wrong-doing but also the guys next to them as well.  They, as a group, are not blocking well.  How can Gilbert possibly call a more sophisticated play than the runs up the middle with occasional WR bubble screens, and taking deep shots?

It's also a domino effect.  How can we ask Barnett not to stare down his first read when he knows somebody will be coming around the edge in a split second?  He is purely using his instincts in trying to make something happen with the number 1 receiver.  In addition, the 2nd read is not even in his break yet.  There's just not enough time for BB to go down his progressions.

And I think this was also the case last year.  But the major difference was we had a guy named Quinton Flowers.  Dynamic with his feet, 3 plus years of game experience, and a big arm (albeit not the most accurate), but just enough to keep defenses honest.

Gotta give Gilbert or whoever credit for bringing in an extra blocker.  I'd say let's work off of that philosophy instead of going down the same path, because you guys are right about one thing...we're not going to beat the teams in our bottom half of the schedule.

Just keep the two TE set and roll with it.

Absolutely.  Our biggest achilles heel right now is pass blocking and has been for six games.  Can't spread everybody out any more.  We need to think pass protection first.  We have the talent at WR to just run a 2 or 3 WR set.

Response to quote above.... This thread is a little different imo -- but was once again over taken by ranking discussions, mostly in response to the "not even top 50 remark".

    this is for everyone....

I think most of our reasonable fans have a reasonable attitude about where we really stand (somewhere around the thirties) based on watching this team. We get that our place in this ranking is a little smoke and mirrors for the moment until we get to throw down against the tougher teams on the schedule. Reality will probably hit somewhere there-- good or bad.

In the end though-- rankings are only helpful for skewing the perception of those who do not following our team closely. Rankings do not win conference championships. Our team has to prove it on the field every game just like anyone else. Keep the W's coming and let the chips fall where they may in the end.

The only reason rankings might ever matter is if we run the table and get a shot at that New Years bowl game -- one which will will have earned. Understand though that we have proved nothing more than we can scrape together wins at this point. We are not wowing anyone with this team. And if we go 10-2 this season, that is a great year for this team-- everything over that is a bonus imo. 12-0 can happen but man do we need to get things figured out fast. That said-- we could also end up 8-4. So let's enjoy the ride. Beats the hell out of 2-10

Mike...that is 1 of the best post I've read in the last 10 years on this board.

  5. Nico is a great player.  Good ball skills, tough as nails, and a knack for making plays when it counts.  But imo he's not as strong as you like as your anchoring lb to be.  It seems he has a hard time shedding blocks.  But to his defense he is playing out of his natural position which i believe wlb would be more fitting.

And Big 10 teams have big power based offensive linemen.

Tha phrase is banned here.  I need to check the censored word/phrases list.

That's hilarious brad...and it brought back bad memories.

Wasn't tthat the year that it had the same kind of feeling like this year?  The "did just enough to win?"  Until a team schemes us and just blow us out of the water?

  7. Sterlin is a good "OC", but he lacks a killer instinct and situational awareness.

For instance...we're only up by 6 with 9 mins of game time left and he goes conservative.  Q was on fire and Mccants was having a great game.  The D just made a great stop.  We're playing against a formidable foe at THEIR place and we clam up like we didnt want to lose.  I thought that was the turning point to the game.  Had we scored again or at least kicked a field goal, we would have put Ucf on their heels.

  8. Watching this truly brings to light that we are all the same regardless of race, culture, upbringing, or anything else that divides us today.  Just trying to make a better life for oneself and one's family.

I hope these kids make it big for all of the hard work they've put into their football career and school.  All the B.S. they have to put up with from fans.  Godspeed to all of those guys.
