  1. I have posted this on the BE Board, too.... A friend of mine (Big SU Donor) was up in Syracuse last weekend from Texas for the Notre Dame/ UConn bb games and also a private booster meeting with the AD/Coaches. "Here is the word as it concerns SU, WVU, Pitt and UL. The Disney Empire has decided these four will be the teams they promote with the best TV slots for FB. WVU will open at Cuse on either Sat/Sun on ABC over Labor Day weekend. Also, they expect UL to host Syracuse on Nov 26th--the game will be either ABC or ESPN. All the games between these schools are expected to be on ESPN/Duece or ABC on Saturday or Thursday. I know AD Jurich thinks they are closing with Cinci but TV is dictating Louisville/Cuse." What does this mean for UConn, Rutgers, USF and Cinci? Inject my opinion here-->I suspect they (TV guys) are taking a wait and see on how the teams progress. In football the national cachet isn't there yet for these schools. This doesn't mean you won't be on Thursday night ESPN or weekend ESPN games but it will be much less than the other four teams. Disney does have the flexibility to highlight a team later in the season, for example... Rutgers is 6-1 or 5-2 they can definitely get a good TV slot in Oct/Nov on ESPN or ABC regional
  2. Coach P fired Syracuse University athletic director Daryl Gross today announced that head football coach Paul Pasqualoni has been fired. The announcement comes eight days after the Orange football team lost to Georgia Tech 51-14 in the Champs Sports Bowl. It also comes three weeks after SU chancellor Nancy Cantor said she had accepted outgoing athletic director Jake Crouthamel's recommendation that Pasqualoni be retained. "I think it's time to go in a different direction," Gross said at Wednesday's press conference. "We will begin the search for a new football coach immediately. The expectations at Syracuse are very high."
  3. I think 21 straight Final Fours and more National Championships makes it so....only Johns Hopkins can argue....

  5. If true--$2 million it should be BE #2, Gator only pays $1.6M. However, more prestige playing a New Year's Day Bowl versus one earlier. Hey Knight: would this big payout mean they would move the game to after XMas?
  6. Carquest/Micron/Tangerine/Champs Bowl looking to the Big East for an affliation. Most BE fans welcome this: although it is an early bowl it does pay slightly more than the minimum ($850k) the location can't be beat. All BE teams can get down there with cheap nonstop flights. A welcomed addition. I think we'll have this lineup in the future: BCS, Gator or Hall of Fame Bowl, Insight, Continental Tire Bowl, Champs Bowl. The Motor City Bowl and Cotton Bowl have agreements with the Big East but these will be rarely exercised. Not bad for 9 teams (include ND). BTW, Cuse will beat GT tomorrow by 7. http://www.syracuse.com/orangefootball/poststandard/index.ssf?/base/sports-1/1103535344177971.xml
  7. Several Issues: 1100 Kickoffs from now on should be abberations But Noon Kickoffs will be commonplace for BE Syndicated TV games.  Expect one or two games a year to be nooners.  Trust me they suck:  kills tailgating, students won't wakeup to get there, interferes with Sat Morning errands, chores and family things with kids. There is no remedy for this--You just suck it up.  USF I hope builds on the LSU model and holds as many home games at night as possible. ÂÂ
  8. You are coming off as a brat who wishes he went to FSU. Time to support your school. If you can't get excited about Louisville, Syracuse, Pitt, WVU then maybe you should change your diploma when you graduate to read: "Graduated May 2006 from USF with a BA in Child Studies but I really wish I went to FSU instead because they play better opponents on TV because ESPN says so"
  9. My God--every Big Easts' Fans suspicion answered. Time to growup USF Students-->do you want to always be know as a directional, commuter school? Frankly, that attitude needs to change or the Big East will "Temple" your ass in 5-10 years.
  10. I disagree: 35,000 is good on several counts 1. meets minimum for Div 1A 2. You'll get to capacity sellouts quicker Why is that important? You need to create demand, a sense of something great/coveted if you get a ticket, It'll be along time before you sellout the Bucs stadium, Create a student zone in this smaller oncampus stadium and make it First Available. Have the students waiting in lines to get in on Saturdays. I lived in Florida and realize a stadium proposal is several years away to get funding due to the Hurricane aftermath. However, the UF/FSU/Miami supporting Legislators are more likely to approve state funding for a smaller oncampus USF facility--i.e. not as much a threat to their beloved Gators, Seminoles, Canes. Smaaza I think your statement is made out of wishful pride and not reality. Build smaller first and expand later as demand dictates.
  11. I supported USF's inclusion in the BE. I actually wanted UCF, too. I think the two schools would feed off of each other. A few things: 1. As nice as Tampa Bay's stadium is you do need an oncampus facility. Build it for 35,000 with room to expand. Twenty Thousand fans in 35k doesn't look nearly as bad as it does in your current digs. 2. Work hard at starting some traditions 3. Have a fan zone outside the stadium before games 4. Put your effort into filling the Big East games and any likely OOC game that might be televise first. We need to project an image that the BE is BCS. Right now you guys look like C-Ugly Tulane/UAB. 5. If the students come out for night games--schedule them as much as possible. Large, active student sections are important in the present and the future (builds your donor base) Remember, LSU has thrived off of the night game maybe you can, too. 6. Did I say to build an oncampus stadium?
  12. At several schools (Syracuse, Georgetown, Villanova, Providence, Rutgers) Lacrosse is now considered the top spring sport. Syracuse is the best best Lacrosse Program in the nation bar none. They average more (about 7k) attendance than alot of college's basketball teams. UVA, UNC, Johns Hopkins, Princeton and Navy are powers but not the status of the Orange. USF could do well in Lax with all the New Yorkers down there.
  13. Cuse is down to either vegas or Orlando--two great cities to visit for a third tiered bowl. http://www.suathletics.com/News/Football/2004/12/3/BowlAnnouncement1203.asp?path=football
  14. I see several of you are planning a trip to Syracuse. This link shoudl help: http://www.cuse44.com/travel%20tips.htm BTW, I have stayed at the Econolodge sevral times. You can get rooms for as cheap as $45+tax. This hotel can pick you up at the airport and you are within walking distance of the game/sports bar/food/bars(Armory Square is like YBor City)/chicks If you fly from Orlando (USair) or Orlando-Sanford (Transmerdian) you can even get a nonstop. Airfare/motel/food can be as little as $300. http://www.iflytma.com/
  15. Good point about the USF/Pitt game but in reality the Bowls want to get their bids out on Nov 27th if possible. As an outsider my feeling is USF chances look bleak. Your only hope will be the Motor City Bowl in your scenario--the Pitt/USF winner could garner the bid. Better hope the Big 10 doesn't get all their slots filled. Historically 6-5 Big East teams have hard time getting bids.
  16. As a Cuse fan--the BE Tourney is an institution. Many fans come from all teams to watch 3-4 days of BB in MSG. The only way for you guys to experience NYC/BE BB is too come and play those Wed opening games. It allows everybody a chance to think they can play their way to the NCAAs. Only 12 teams qualifing right now limits your chances the next couple years...I suspect you'll do fairly well in the SunDome. Many teams will treat your game as a midwinter break and go in unfocused. I expect you to bite a couple of the mid/lower BE teams in 05-06--maybe enough to earn a bid to MSG in March 06.
  17. Great win the other night from a Cuse fan. UAB will continue to draw flies for several reasons: 1. Second tiered state university not the Flagship 2. Auburn/Bama fans in Birmingham will not support this team--they fear it will siphon recruits away from them 3. As stated above--Legion Field/Bad Neighborhood Count your lucky stars you are leaving C-Ugly
  18. Syracuse has the opposite problem in 2005--too many games. They will be dropping two of these three teams next year (Boston College, Buffalo or Toledo) as they fit the new BE teams into the schedule. Your AD should contact SU and see if they can work a deal to take two of these teams. http://www.suathletics.com/sidebar.asp?id=313
  19. http://syracuse.com/weblogs/orangejuice/ Scroll to Oct 26th
  20. ESPN is in arbitration with the Big East. What they are doing is devaluing the conference. It will be interesting how they treat the basketball teams. See Link: Scroll down to Oct 25th for a discussion and articles http://syracuse.com/weblogs/orangejuice/
  21. I'm going up to the Dome for the game against FSU. You guys have any "ammo" to use for some good natured ribbing with the Seminole fans?
  22. WVU drops to #2 but barely Scroll to Tuesday, Oct 5th http://syracuse.com/weblogs/orangejuice/
  23. Somewhat of a Pyrrhic Victory for UConn they lost their best DT (King) for probably the rest of the season. UConn doesn't have alot of depth there. I expect the Cuse to beat them in a few weeks.
  24. SCBullsfan that is crap--I run the poll and there were ten voters from all eight teams in the NBE in the last poll. In fact USF had two voters in the poll. Maybe Syracuse is third because they play the toughest schedule of any team. I was at the UVA/Cuse game and it was in doubt halfway thru the fourth quarter. You could've voted in the poll but chose not to. USFFAN and Bulliever are your voices.
  25. latest results. Some shuffling around. http://syracuse.com/weblogs/orangejuice/
