I'm sure JK is going to get the scoop. Hahahaha...I couldn't even type that without laughing. The sports writer from Ames, Iowa scooped him. Seriously. Ames. Iowa. That's a real place and the guy who covers sports for them is better at his job than JK.

Unless I missed it, I don't see anything that says we have anything to do with some mystery meeting at the Big 12 offices.

Here is what will happen with Big 12 expansion this year.

    Go Bulls!

    Interesting:

Stewart: I live in Houston and have a few contacts who are very close with UH athletics. They believe Big 12 expansion talk is in fact a cover-up designed to take media attention off the Baylor scandal. They are convinced as soon as the season gets here and either Texas beats Notre Dame, or TCUbeats Arkansas, or Oklahoma beats Ohio State, they’ll announce they've found it best to stick with 10.

Strictly speaking, Tampa Bay isn't a city.  But for purposes of the kind of analyses Money Magazine prepares, the reference is probably to the metro area, usually referred to as "Tampa Bay" (including St. Pete, Clearwater, etc.).

Actually I checked and the Money Magazine article specifically references "Tampa".

Jefferson High's Jean Marcellus is a highly-touted offensive lineman. The 6-foot-3, 295-pound senior is listed as one of the top 100 players in the state by 247Sports. He has offers from Division I-A schools such as Georgia Tech, Miami and Mississippi State.

But when Marcellus announced his college plans on July 25, he spurned schools from major conferences and committed to USF.

Marcellus is not the only one who stayed local. Less than a week after Marcellus' decision, two of his high school teammates — defensive lineman J'Bril Glaze and athlete Jermaine Eskridge —pledged their allegiance to the Bulls.

Eskridge might have been the biggest coup. The junior is rated as a four-star recruit by 247Sports and has offers from Alabama, Florida and Ohio State.

USF's summer haul of bay area prospects also includes Hillsborough High running back Duran Bell and Armwood defensive back Mekhi LaPointe, who led the state in interceptions last year with 10.

After years of watching recruits from the fertile bay area basin turn elsewhere, the Bulls have amped up their efforts and are starting to retain as much top talent as possible.

    It worked with Marcellus

    ... there's a bunch more. Give it a read. It's a good article.

And every athletic department in the country cries we have no money.  Good thing they don't work in the private sector.

It's so true. The USF campus looks like the Taj Mahal compared to when I was there in the early/mid 90s.  People wonder why college loan debt is out of control? Well that's the reason. Buildings the look like they should be at a resort...

Big 12 expansion decision starts with BYU, Cincinnati and Houston

Who gets left out? Houston, BYU or Cincinnati?

That’s the big question that will answer every other question when it comes to Big 12 expansion talk, which has evolved into 18 schools groveling for the conference’s attention.

Of all those schools, three — BYU, Houston and Cincinnati — best fit the profile of a Big 12 and Power 5 golden ticket winner.

That’s the good news for those schools. The bad news is if the Big 12 opts to add two teams, then one of those deserving schools is going to be left without a chair.

As for their stance on homosexuals, it's very vocal. You can read about it on suspect newsrags like "The Washington Post" or "The New York Times".

From what I've read, their stance seems to be "don't have sex" hetero or homo. Sure they don't seem to be supportive of the homosexual "cause" in a "Wow! you're gay.. that's awesome.. here have some pie!" sorta way (which seems to be required now-a-days), but they've said publicly what they want is absence for all student regardless of sexual orientation.

Oklahoma State's Mike Gundy: Big 12 'clueless,' shouldn't expand

    Quote

Add Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy to the list of Big 12 expansion opponents.

In an interview with the Tulsa World, Gundy said "I don't think it's worth it" regarding expansion and said he wasn't keen on adding another Texas school in the University of Houston to the 10-team conference, citing competition for recruits in the Lone Star State.

"I don't understand expansion right now. I don't know what we're doing," said Gundy, best known for his "I'm a man! I'm 40!" rant at a 2007 news conference. "I think right now we're pretty much clueless."

Gundy echoed the words of Kansas State offensive coordinator and former UH coach Dana Dimel - he of the 8-26 record and winless 2001 season with the Cougars - in citing the increased recruiting difficulty.

"The concern is, and where that comment is coming from, is if your northern schools put a southern school, and another school in Texas, in the same league, that essentially is going to pull recruits from all of us," Gundy said. "That's what it comes down to.

"Anyone that's not in Texas will have a more difficult time recruiting Texas if another Texas school gets in this league."

Gundy told the World that the Cowboys have 30 players on their roster from Houston and the surrounding area, and have set up satellite camps in north and south Houston.

"Your Texas high schools and Texas high school coaches, they're tight," Gundy said. "That's a tight-knit group down there. They're always good to accommodate us, but a percentage of them would just as soon a kid go to a Texas school before they'd leave and go to any school outside the state of Texas."

Gundy also questioned Gov. Greg Abbott chiming in and endorsing UH for Big 12 membership.

"For whatever reason, the governor, and I don't know why the governor has any say-so or comment about who's in our league — that blows me away — but the governor now wants them in," Gundy said.

"You're fighting geography, you're fighting a Texas school, you're fighting what other people's perceptions of schools are. That's why in my opinion, I don't think it's worth it. Just be patient, see where we're at. We're not that far off. Two years ago we should have had a team in the playoff. Last year we did. What's the big deal? That's my opinion.

"Nobody likes to hear it, but that's my opinion."
