  1. I think we are getting some good work from Carl Crawford as well. Lugo and Travis Lee have made some impact.

They are fun to watch and going to the games is getting better. I'm kind of used to the warehouse they play in. Pinella has made a difference- anyone who says he hasn't or wants to dwell on past performance is being extremely short sighted.

I agree-- Winning the division (or finsihing second/wild card) is the biggest problem these guys will have. Who know sthough-- put enough successful seasons together, increase the attendance/merchandise sales, and they might have enough money to get the missing players to over come that difficult obstacle. Some injuries ot he Yankees could send them into a tailspin-- it's really about luck and timing. I like the Rays chances in the next few years.

  2. Let's hear it for the Rays-- they swept the Orioles (edit-- the stupid ass on the radio this morning said it was the Rangers) yesterday. Maybe this has not registered with you guys but the Rays are playing great baseball this year. Maybe not good enough to finish over .500 but you never know. Lou's got them firing on all cylinders. I'm hopeful for next season. He's really made a difference in attitude of these young players.

That's the beuty of baseball. Unlike basketball which IMO is a freaking yawn fest once your team sucks or football where you can pretty much tell when a team just doens't have the ability to compete week to week (Bengals)-- baseball is a game that has plenty of opportunity for excitement. It may be a bit slower than the other sports in terms of field action but each game can be pretty interesting in itself.

oh sorry-- I forgot this board has turned into the smazza trivia corner... my bad.

  3. he won't be available until very late in the season.

Almost made me think that Shaun King was in trouble since they will not be carrying 4 QB's. Doubtful that Simms would get put on the practice squad since it would open him up to waivers. He's played way to well in the preseason not for someone to want to grab him up and steal the Bucs 3rd round pick.

This kind of puts the Jets situation into perspective. I don't think we need to worry about MB getting out there any time soon. It would just draw attention to him if he plays well (he will)-- maybe Herm is playing this right. Assuming MB gets on their practice squad, he can either come in once one of their guys goes down (granted with ZERO snaps behind him) OR he gets to work on his game in NFL Europe-- maybe for Doug Graber?????

  4. Green Machine, Green machine.  I cant believe I forgot The Longest Yard.  I was having trouble coming up with any other sport movies that were decent.

Time for you to watch that movie again. It's "Mean Machine, Mean Machine".

By the way-- those films are all listed-- it's a top 50 listing. Caddyshack only made it to the top twenty (unless you are one of those folks who don't consider it a sport  ;) )

  5. I meant the write in candidate, not a "Mickey Mouse"-like candidate. You know-- the silent protest against the election where people put in anything as a write in candidate. Perhaps "Beavis" would have been more relevant.

uhhhhh..... heh heh .... Shut up, Beavis.

Sorry to hear you lost by two votes-- was there a recount? You know how much we like recounts here in Florida.

  6. I heard an analogy on TV this morning that made me laugh. They were talking about the recall of California Gov Davis as being a method of overturning the outcome of the election.

The analogy(paraphrased): "This is like the Raiders recalling the loss to Tampa Bay in the Superbowl so they could try again"

Yeah-- sure-- like the Raiders would even come close to beating the Bucs if they had to play them again. The Bucs are a better team all-around. Elections-- well-- you could be the best politician in the world and still lose to Mickey Mouse as a write in candidate.

  7. Actually, he said that he never said anything like that-- it was the media who put this so-called quote out there.

They are good friends off the court but he does admit that they have disagreements on the court. Kidd is not concerned that the team lacks the right coach-- he is concerned that they don't have the firepower to win a championship. For this reason alone, he wants to move on to play in San Antonio. He wants a ring-- that is why they all play the game and I don't blame him one bit.

Who ever said he was freaking Magic Johnson BESIDES you Steve? Magic is a legend of the game, like Jordan/Bird. Kidd has got great skills but until he starts throwing down some championships, no one will ever even start to equate him with those three guys.

  8. Well-- if you want to get completely crazy about it, they could attempt to pay the league minimum for all their players. That minimum is based on years in the NFL and goes up incrementally. Something like 300,000 (rookie) to 500,000 (3 years) to 700,000 (5 years). Not sure if you have to declare a franchise player, but that would mean you must pay someone at least equal to the top five for their position. So maybe you declare the punter your franchise player (which may very well be true with this group of scrubs you have acquired).

The point is that no team would bother doing that because they would draw squat and be out business faster than a Jeffrey Daumer sausage stand.

I do not know if there is a league minimum you have to pay as a team. The point is you will not suceed in making any profits if you go that route as a team or as a business. It's pointless to even think of doing this-- you just make your team **** near worthless and therefore would lose cash from the purchase price (unless you are Art Modell).

  9. Last year on the way to the stadium to see a Bucs game, Eddie D passed us in a Police car led caravan. He probably just flew in/helicoptered in to Tampa airport (we were on Spruce).

Must be nice to have that kind of ca$h. I would like to see him take over the Bucs and perhaps even act with one scant bit of decency in terms of raking the Tampa Bay community over the coals. Anyone see the latest issue with the Sports Authority trying to give ownership of the stadium to Hillsborough county (to avoid property tax)?  The Glaziers are trying to piggy back in FREE terrorist/storm disaster insurance costing about $1 MM a year just to let the TSA make this simple move. SO any money they might save by giving the property goes where? You guessed it-- straight into the Glaziers pockets. Man they are the greediest bastards on the planet. How many zillions did they just make off the Superbowl victory? They still need more handouts from the people of Tampa.

Screw them TSA-- keep the property, do not offer up the additional insurance, and let the property tax money go to where it truly belongs-- Hillsborough County.
