  1. The game is held at 1:00pm EST on the busiest shopping day of the year.

Nobody is going to be watching anyway. I don't think if OSU played UM on December 23rd that it would have a large audience.

The game is not about exposure as much as it's about the extra cash for the university and the extra practice time and a 13th game for our players.  It's also about having fun as fans visiting another city.

It doesn't matter to me if no one else watches the game.

I think the part in bold is a bit exaggerated. You could put that game on any day and the audience would be huge.

  2. Bullheaded, a team that isn't shafted by the system is not going to get the look that Florida/Michigan/Louisville will get when they are sfated (barring UCLA upsetting USC).

SO, of course a school isn't going to complain if they aren't in the mix, it would be pointless and many would make fun of them. To the other extreme, if they were the team to go to the title game, of course they wouldn't complain, don't want to piss the powers that be off.

Yes it was a faulty system for hoarding money to begin with, but we should praise it. It made USF relevant in college football.

At the same time it was not those other schools that put this system together. It was the Florida and Michigans that felt it was best to make the current (at that time) scope of college football as stagnant as possible and lock out anyone that was not in their little party from having a snow balls chance in hell of getting into a major bowl and sharing in the money. If the bcs had been around 40 years ago UF and FSU would be mid majors, if it was 25 years ago Miami would be a mid major. They knew this and contrived an ingenious plan of locking the door for any other team to achieve what they have. So, again I'll say that after their greedy little plan caused them to suffer I have zero sympathy and think they should just deal with it and enjoy the fact that they are still getting what they really wanted.....lot's and lot's of money.

Of course I still hope a playoff happens but these teams need to just quit whining that they got shafted when the motivations were in the best interest of their wallets and not their teams.

  3. Jimminey Crickets, You guys are freaking crazy.

A school with CLOUT is pushing for a playoff and your complaining how they're whining? THANK YOU UF. We've been waiting for someone be it Texas, Michigan, LSU, Oklahoma, etc. just SOMEONE with some freaking say in college football's money pool to start this up.

This is awesome for 2 reasons:

    a) It's a University President. The past few years the biggest excuse is the University presidents don't want the playoff because it would hurt the studnets.

    B) UF and Ohio State are the two richest athletic departments in the country (they go back and forth taking the #1 spot). To have a school with the financial success of UF backing the playoff goes against conventional wisdom that schools will lose moeny from the playoff.

I've seen countless threads about the BCS suck, etc. over the last few months and how unfair it was to (WVU/Louisville/Rutgers) and how college football needed a playoff. Well this is probably the biggest shot the ass it will get.

Hate UF all you want, this might be the best thing for the game.

As for the 4th spot. There will always be an argument for it fact fo life. But at least your taking less of a risk leaving someone behind who should possibly be there.

To put it another way. YES it is great a school with clout is pushing for a playoff system which I think is what we should have anyway. BUT it's the motivation behind it all that deserved to be critisized, I certainly didn't hear florida fans crying for a playoff 2 years ago, in fact anyone I talked to would just say that it was the way it should be since the non bcs schools didn't "deserve" to share in the big money. Of course that was when they were no where near sniffing a bcs game yet still got the money. Now they they are personally affected (by their own greed) the whining starts. So as I mentioned above, I agree with the playoff yet I still can't help but chuckle at the complaints of not getting into the big game since it is ALL caused by them doing everything they possibly can to hoard the money.

  4. WOW! What a collosal waste of time this replay was! I tivo'd it and watched it last night and they hacked the game up so bad that it wasn't worth a ****. It was essentially the 5 minute highlight reel + part of our last drive + 1.5 hours of commercials (and the entire broadcast was shortened to 2 hours). I felt like I was watching a 2 hour commercial occasionally broken up with a play or two of football.

Is this the way the replays are normally done? I hope the reply tonight is in full and not this crap they showed tuesday morning.

  5. The better slogan would be...

    "When U need to know... TheBullsPen.com ...'

Not sure of the design, though...  I generally like t-shirts with the front just a small "pocket" logo, with more writing on the back.

Brad, I'm sure Craig at Bulls Outfitter would be willing to help with costs -- especially if it also advertised his store/site.

I agree, a shirt with logo on the front chest is my preferred also.

How about a coffee mug too while were at it  :)

  6. I don't think it is possible with this particular forum package ("YaBB - Yet Another Bulletin Board")

Its a cool idea, as I too check the board from my windows mobile phone all the time.  It is much too wide for the browser, but it satisfies the craving for Bulls info.

yeah, I use the windows mobile on mine as well and when I come here even with the broadband I've got to shut off all the graphics to make it run a bit better. Was hoping for a better answer but at least I have some access to it while I'm out!

  7. ...We only put up 22 on Pitt. Their D is terrible. WVU just picking them apart. And vica verca. I expect our game against them to be high scoring

When is it going to be understood that WVU's offense makes everybody's D look terrible.

I guess only when you line up against them.

    Those guys are seriously unstoppable.

And I don't think it's Slaton and White.  They're both awesome players, but it's the scheme.  Every freaking run is untouched for 15 yards.  The holes they have to work with are huuuge.  And it does not matter whose defense they are up against.

I was going to say the exact same thing. Can anyone name a defense in the past two years that has not looked like crap against them?

  8. Mutt uses "game day" soap.  I kid you not...he has this green shower gel from Bath and Body Works (men's collection) and then he has gold (Nutrogena) face wash.  He also sings the "game day" soap song while in the shower!  He also wears his USF embroidered boxers...he has several pairs.  The one time he didn't use game day soap we lost to Cincy.

I probably don't really want to ask this but what exactly is the "game day soap song"? lol

  9. LOVE Grothe's comments about shutting the crowd!

About the classes, well IMO it's college and there are two distinctly different issues.

    1)attending class

    2)making the grades

It isn't high school and as long as you make the grade there should be no requirement whatsoever in actually sitting in the room. That being said, I'll assume that making the grade was the true problem here...at least I hope that they weren't kicked off the team if they are passing but just not sitting in the room.

  10. Root for USF to win at least one more

    Of course!

    Cincy to lose out

    No problems here

ND to get a BCS bid

Never, ever, ever in a million years will I root for ND to win a game much less a receive a BCS bid....sorry!

That's okay. Not rooting for Notre Dame is the same thing as not rooting for USF to go to a bowl game.  Just so you're okay with that... you are rooting for USF to not get a bowl game.

I disagree, if we take care of business then we will be in a bowl. ND can (and I hope does) rot in hell

  11. Also, if you dont have one, you have to setup an appointment to get one, there is info on the site posted above. I'm going to setup my appointment in the next day or two.

hmmm, I needed one back in april and just walked into the passport agency in the airport post office with no appointment and had no problem. Also, for those that wait till the last minute like I did you can have it expidited, I got mine a week later but it was fairly costly. I think there is a one week and a two week option at different costs.

  12. And why do you guys think Texas is so great?  Could it be the tough teams they played?  They did play Ohio State but lost.  Anybody could do that.

         Sat, Sep 2        North Texas

Sat, Sep 9      (1) Ohio State

         Sat, Sep 16      at Rice

         Sat, Sep 23      Iowa State

Sat, Sep 30      Sam Houston State

Sat, Oct 7      at (14) Oklahoma

         Sat, Oct 14      Baylor

Sat, Oct 21      at (17) Nebraska

Sat, Oct 28      at Texas Tech

         Sat, Nov 4      Oklahoma State

Sat, Nov 11      at Kansas State

         Fri, Nov 24      (24) Texas A&M

it's a waste of time, I tried to point out the weak schedule to smazza last week but he just picks and chooses opponents to suit his argument. He mentiones WVU beating eastern washington but fails to mention texas playing sam houston state. He continuously points out ohio state but I'm sorry I fail to see how a LOSS to anyone should bring a team respect. IMO, looking at the texas schedule they played ONE good ooc team and they lost so there is absolutely nothing in their schedule that puts them ahead of any team in the country. As far as conference, there are maybe 3 decent teams, so put them all together and texas plays 3 games out of 12 that are worth a **** and this is the status quo for all teams around the country so IMO the whole sos argument is a joke. Yeah, one team may play 3 instead of 2 decent teams or 4 instead of 3....that still leaves nearly everyone playing crap for just about the entire season.

  13. still some bizzare plays though, 35 years of watching football and I can't recall ever seeing a team fake a field goal in order to punt.....and a time out called to set that up on top of it.

The timeout was a bit bizarre, but the actual call was a good one. Better to try and pin them deeper in their territory than to risk having another miss, which would have been highly probable with out kicking game.

I don't disagree with the decision to punt instead of going for a field goal but I just don't see the need to fake it. Our problems have stemmed from innacurate kicking and poor punting, neither of which is correctable by the fake.....as demonstrated by the way the kick went sailing long into the endzone.

Overall I'd say he made some decent calls yesterday but that one was just bizzare IMO

  14. sos- takes into account are opponents records outside of conference play

since big east has fewest members it is imperative that  big east members start palying top competition on the road

dont you want to see be's best play other conference's best?

    I DO

until that happens you will see one loss big east teams drop drastically in standings

have to agree with Brad and Bien, you are going back and forth between two issues.

Are you debating the original point of why we would root for other be teams and what benefit there is to them doing well

    or

Are you debating the necessity of having a strong ooc schedule?

Point one has been beaten to death and I haven't seen any logical reason from you on what benefit there is to us to hope the other teams do poorly.

for the second point, I personally agree that the ooc schedules should be stronger BUT to say that teams in the BE are playing easier schedules then other leagues is just wrong....they are ALL terrible.

    two issues

dont understand why a usf fan would root for other big east teams during regular season

SOS for wv,ul,pitt and rutgers is soem of the worst for ranked teams.i have given many examples.until big east schedule top teams big east will not get respect

wait until you see where loser of ul/wv ends up in polls

so your saying that 1)sos is extremely important and 2) we should root for the teams that we will play every year to suck so our sos will be worse off

well not sure if it's the the attourney or the liberal in you that causes such a lack of logic but either way thanks for giving me such a good chuckle tonight!

    ;D
