  1. Junior QB to Watch By Dave Peters Publisher Date: May 1, 2005 One of the most intriguing prospects in the state of Florida resides in Pace (Fla.). The 6-foot-1 and 185 pound quarterback had an outstanding junior season along with being a stat pitcher in baseball. This past year as a junior, Chris Sorce was a first year starter at quarterback for Pace High school. In a running offense, he was 106 of 166 for 1,449 yards and 11 touchdowns. He’s also got a big arm on the diamond. “I got a real strong arm,” Sorce said. “ I’m also real accurate. Some people say that I remind them of Brett Farve. I also can throw a baseball 97 miles per hour. I average around 91 miles per hour.” The Panhandle standout is currently getting letter from Maryland, South Florida, Florida State and Georgia. “Duke, Georgia and Miami have called my school,” he said. “I really like Miami. They have always been my team. I also like Florida State, Georgia and Auburn.” A couple of weeks ago, Sorce visited the Seminoles unofficial for the Garnet & Gold spring game. “I got there kind of late but the stadium is great,” he said. “I talked with Coach Lilly and he told me to keep working hard.” This summer, Sorce has plans to attend football camps at Miami, Georgia, Auburn and Florida State. 2. We detected this problem a few days ago and Velcro is looking at it. We will get it fixed. Please feel free to report any issues. We want this to be the best place possible and rely on your feedback. Thanks, Brad
  3. I think our facilities may be outdated...but when they were not, we still underachieved. Period. This has been bantered about here before, but baseball in Florida is a lot like football in Florida. Better home grown talent and the climate most players would like to be in "year-round." The fact that we have not capitalized is unforgivable. Let's talk facilities with softball and soccer (which have been successful) as well as Volleyball. Baseball has missed its window and will continue to unfortunately. When we celebrate 700 wins, despite 500+ losses, we got problems - big problems.
  4. Follow: 1) Mens Basketball 2) Football Enjoy watching: 1) Mens Basketball 2) Football 3) Volleyball Support: All (Baseball at bottom of list - less deserving in my opinion)

  6. 1. What was your favorite T.V. Show ? When...as a yute?  As a yute, I really liked Gilligan's Island for some reason. 2. Who was your favorite T.V. Show Mom ? Mrs. Brady 3. What is your favorite T.V. Show "Theme" ? Theme song? Welcome Back Kotter 4. Who is your favorite T.V. Show Hero ? Hong Kong Phooey, maybe UnderDog - that's a close one. 5. Who is your favorite T.V. Show Villian ? Hard to argue with the Cat Woman...I'll take her too.
  7. I'd love to put the iconic U on there, but I don't think the good folks at USF would like that. I have not inquired about using their marks on these types of things, so I'd have to get their permission. I could add a more generic "USF" or "South Florida" to the sticker though. The bumper stickers actually came out very nice. I'll see what I can do.
  8. I would agree...This has got to be the most excitement ever in a late signing period...also, the first time in a while basketball was being talked about in late April (in a positive light). This due to the great finish the team had and the sleeper signees Coach Mc has reeled in. I am excited about Coach Mc's recruits and even more excited to see him meld them together as a team. I'm not going to expect a ridiculous number of wins - but if Coach Mc can get these guys together and make them competitive in the first year in the Big East, we'll be fine.
  9. Thanks E.T., it's a bumper sticker I made when I should have doing more constructive things...it begs a lot of questions here in Phoenix.. Link
  10. The buzz sounds like a stampede Mark Lennox commentary April 29, 2005 As the academic year draws to its bitter end and the land of collegiate sports heads toward hibernation, Bulls fans in need of a pick-me-up can look no further than my cheap knockoff of a David Letterman top-whatever list. While there is a general consensus that the students of USF don't attend nor get excited about Bulls athletics, I think it's only appropriate to attempt to generate some buzz for the upcoming fall. Number 5: There is a possible quarterback controversy on the horizon. Ok, I know what you're thinking. The spring game was horrible; if Julmiste and Severino are going to be chucking the rock, then there is no controversy here. We might as well just let Andre Hall throw the ball; the rest of the team will be on his back anyways. Wrong. Bulls fans did not get a chance to look at quarterback prospect Courtney Denson; a transfer from Auburn will likely be at the head of the footrace. Now, throw into the mix a couple of stellar quarterback recruits and you've got yourself a nice QB goulash. With incoming freshman Matt Grothe, who was Class-4A Player of the Year and a finalist for Mr. Football, and Carlton Hill, who had 2,635 yards in total offense and a total of 32 touchdowns running and passing as a senior. Number 4: We're digging USF volleyball. Anyone else catch that pun in the title? For all of you who think this is a stretch at No. 4, think again. The USF volleyball team fielded a young squad last year in Claire Lessinger's first season as head coach. While the Bulls posted a 9-20 record, they had an excellent winning percentage at The Corral, going 7-11 at home. USF returns every player from last year's roster, including senior Flavia Silveria, who was ranked third in C-USA with 4.18 kills a game. The Bulls also added four stellar recruits in the off-season and will look to respond with senior leadership in their first season of Big East play. Number 3: Women's basketball is on a tear. Coming off the best season in program history, the USF women's basketball team loses only three players, including senior guard Anedra Gilmore. The Athletic Department locked up Jose Fernandez for the next five years, and he has responded by recruiting some of the nation's best players. Besides having All-American honorable-mention Jessica Dickson on the squad, the Bulls have already signed up two of the states top prospects in Stephanie Sarosi and Caitlyn Mitryk. Both players are still juniors in high school but have already verbally committed to the growing program. With the transition to the Big East, prospects will love the chance to play for an up-and-comer like USF that will take on teams like Notre Dame, Boston College and perennial powerhouse UCONN. The Bulls gave UCONN a run for its money this season, taking the Huskies to their first-ever overtime game at Gampel Pavillion. With top-quality prospects on the rise, an upset may be brewing. Fernandez has not set his sights low either. He fully intends to make the NCAA this year after back-to-back WNITs. Number 2: UCF travels to Raymond James. The UCF Knights take on USF in the second game of the 2005-06 football season. Plan on Ray Jay to have a packed house -- hopefully more Green and Gold -- full of students and alumnus from both schools. This is the first time the two teams have met on the gridiron and it looks to be one heck of a game. USF will be fresh off a game at Penn State and hungry to defend home court. UCF could possibly come in touting the nation's longest losing streak, depending on the outcome of its game against South Carolina. USF stud running back Andre Hall will open his final season as a Bull and look to hammer into the trenches after averaging 6.5 yards a carry during the 2004-05 season. And finally Number 1: The beast of the Big East. USF will look to take its athletic program to the next level when it transfers from Conference USA to the Big East. Besides playing in a BCS football conference, the door is open for the Bulls to play upper-echelon teams on a yearly basis. Tampa Bay is the 13th-largest media market in the country, and grabbing a spot in one of the nation's best conferences will likely boost revenue and get the Bulls more media attention. With Louisville making the jump to C-USA as well, the Big East will represent two teams that garnished BCS bowls last season. The Big East is by far one of the best conferences in men and women's basketball. UCONN recently won three consecutive national championships in women's basketball, along with the UCONN men's team taking the crown last season. Playing schools in this conference automatically improves the RPI of our basketball programs. The Big East puts USF on the map; now which direction will it go? Story Link
  11. We're still looking for one more guy, perhpas after that we get a write-up.
  12. They can be for sale or available at FAD and the fan can ask the player to autograph, just like the posters. A well attended FAD could mean a lot of sales for Athlon. I wouldn't suggest the Bulls Club buy 50, but having the chance for Andre to sign his cover ought to motivate fans to buy them or Athlon to make them available for sale (unlikely).
  13. Area Miami fans shouldn't despair if the rule change eliminates the possibility of Hurricanes-Gators at Raymond James Stadium. The 12th game actually could bring Miami to RJS even sooner. USF is due a return date for its scheduled Oct. 1 appearance at the Orange Bowl, and the new rule could allow the Hurricanes to come to Tampa as early as 2006.  ``[uSF coach] Jim [Leavitt] and I will get together and get with Miami and see which year makes the most sense,'' Bulls athletic director Doug Woolard said Thursday.  Story posted on State of Florida Board, click here
  14. New Rule Changes Dynamics For UF-UM By ANDY STAPLES astaples@tampatrib.com GAINESVILLE - Florida and Miami will meet again in football, the schools' athletic directors said Thursday, but a new NCAA rule could force a change of date, venue or both. Miami athletic director Paul Dee said the schools ``were prepared to play'' in 2008, probably at Tampa's Raymond James Stadium, Orlando's Citrus Bowl or Miami's Dolphins Stadium. But after the NCAA's board of directors voted Thursday to allow Division I-A schools to schedule a 12th regular-season game beginning in 2006, the possibilities are wide open. The Gators and Hurricanes could elect to play a home- and-home series as they did in 2002-03, or they could go ahead with plans for a neutral- site game, which would allow the schools to split the gate receipts. Only one thing seems certain: don't expect an annual Florida-Miami meeting. ``We agreed that when it passes, we'll talk,'' said Dee, in Tampa on Thursday for a Hurricane Club meeting. ``We already have a basic understanding that it won't be an annual game. We will play regularly on an intermittent basis. In other words, we might play twice every six years.'' Foley said Thursday that he and Dee haven't discussed the game for ``about six months'' and that the Gators won't start scheduling new opponents until Foley can meet with first- year coach Urban Meyer and hammer out a scheduling philosophy. ``It's too early to tell,'' Foley said. ``Obviously, I want to sit down with Coach Meyer and put the schedules up on the board and do what's best for our football team.'' Area Miami fans shouldn't despair if the rule change eliminates the possibility of Hurricanes-Gators at Raymond James Stadium. More than Florida or Miami, USF - which must fill five out- of-conference schedule slots each season beginning in 2006 - also may examine a corollary to the 12th-game rule that will allow schools to count one win a season against a Division I-AA opponent toward bowl eligibility. Previously, schools could count one such win every four years. The idea of a 12th game rankled the American Football Coaches Association and members of the Atlantic Coast Conference, but the measure passed Thursday by a vote of 8-2-1. College presidents comprise the NCAA board. ``I don't really want a 12th game,'' Miami coach Larry Coker said. ``With a conference championship game and a bowl game, we're talking 13, 14 games.'' Though NCAA leaders said the proposal wasn't passed solely to fill athletic departments' coffers, AFCA director Grant Teaff said in an interview earlier this month that the coaches believe ``it's a financial deal.'' NCAA president Myles Brand did not deny that, but he said his staff's research did not indicate a negative effect on players' academics in a 12- game regular season. The NCAA last allowed 12 regular- season games in 2002 and 2003 because 14 Saturdays fell between the first and last permissible playing dates. However, Brand did warn that a 12th game is not a license for athletic departments to continue runaway spending. ``These institutions need additional revenue for the commitments they've made. ... The presidents in I-A saw this as one way to increase that revenue,'' Brand said in a teleconference. ``I still think we have the problem - and it hasn't gone away - with control in terms of the rate of increase in expenditures. ``This does not solve that problem.'' The NCAA also must decide whether to make six or seven wins the minimum for bowl eligibility. University of Kansas president Robert Hemenway said the board has asked the NCAA management council to study the problem and suggest a number. Story Link
  15. Maybe he is from the French Quarter of Louisville...
  16. If this is right, I have to ask where are those that said Coach McCullum could not recruit?
  17. Courtesy USF SID Office Quotes from USF head coach Robert McCullum on signee Brandon Stores “I’m ecstatic about Brandon Store’s decision to further both his basketball and academic endeavors at the University of South Florida,” said McCullum. “Brandon is an extremely versatile athlete who brings much needed size and athleticism to our team. His athleticism is a real strength. “Brandon has only played organized basketball for two years and it’s almost scary to think how good he could be considering he’s only played those two years. In becoming the fifth member of our 2005 class, Brandon’s presence adds more size and athleticism, two things we have tried to make a goal of improving upon at every position on the floor.” McCullum added that the staff would like to add yet one more member to the 2005 class.

Stores averaged 19.5 points, 12.7 rebounds and 5.2 blocks in his 2004-05 season, helping Christian Center Academy to a 30-4 record and a second place finish in the National Prep School Tournament. In addition to playing for the Pittsburgh Jots AAU Team, Stores was the MVP for the Western Pennsylvania All-Stars in a game with the Eastern USA All-Stars. Prior to playing for Christian Center Academy, Stores attended Warren G. Harding High School in Warren, Ohio. Georgia, New Mexico State, Providence and Temple had also recruited Stores. He joins Davis Sills, a 6-1 guard, Chris Howard, a 6-2 guard, Zaronn Cann, a 6-6 forward and McHugh Mattis, a 6-6 guard/forward in USF’s 2005 Recruiting Class.
  19. And that wraps up the pollution brought to us on this thread by Knight_Dive. We don't need a knight telling us about USF football.
  20. Yes, that is why I pointed them out - their success on the field is the only thing that separates...their fans are clearly buying. We should be in top 50 as well - and I believe we will be. I have to believe our alumni, fan and student bases are all much larger - as is the stature of our conference and our overall upside potential.
