  1. And that is the real issue and the reason for the thread...we can do little about the motives and reasons TBO reports on former players...but we can send a clear message that we don't care - it's not wanted. This is not what their "readers" are interested in - that's all. Maybe they realize that, maybe they don't. It's a waste of time. No one is asking to censor TBO - but I think the overwhelming majority are saying that this is not what we want to read...When that happens enough, we tend to look to other sources.
  2. What does it really take to stare at the police blotter and look for this stuff?
  3. There is a BIG difference between future, current and FORMER! Acts or proceedings that occur after the student-athlete has been dismissed should not be a reflection of the University or its program and I believe that is the effect this type of reporting has - and is intended to have in some cases. After all, if Marquel Blackwell got caught 30 years from now heisting a watch at a store in Idaho, would it really be Bulls news? Modified to correct typo
  4. We've selected a TheBullsPen.com spokesperson to deal with Brett and TBO on these non-Bulls stories.  Here she is:
  5. Would anyone like to speculate as to why we read this in the Bulls section of TBO?
  6. The Knights are swarming...I'll try to keep up with deleting their votes...they're so funny. As E.T. would opine, let Brett know how you feel: bmcmurphy@tampatrib.com
  7. Please make it clear by participating in the poll...A simple Yes/No is okay, but you may select multiple responses to underscore your feelings on this kind of "reporting".
  8. Does anyone really care? Brett's latest story: Former USF Lineman Faces More Charges TAMPA - Former University of South Florida defensive lineman Curtis Chance, dismissed from the Bulls' program May 2, was arrested Wednesday. Wanted on an outstanding warrant, Chance was charged with burglary and grand theft between $300-$5,000, both felonies, and a misdemeanor charge of fraudulent use of a credit card. The alleged incidents occurred in a USF residence hall during the past semester, USF police spokesman Mike Klingebiel said. In July, Chance was arrested in Ybor City and pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana. Brett McMurphy This story can be found at: http://sports.tbo.com/sports/MGBM6GNDW8E.html
  9. Just curious which Glazer offspring wanted a soccer team to play with?
  10. Courtesy GoUSFBulls.com Tiffany Stewart Named to Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Region Team TAMPA, Fla. (May 19, 2005) – USF softball player Tiffany Stewart was named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Southeast Region First Team as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association today. Stewart, the team’s leader in batting average (.382), is USF’s lone Louisville Slugger/NFCA honoree. The Odessa, Fla., native hit .382 with seven home runs and 34 RBI in 2005. A two-time C-USA Hitter of the Week this past season, Stewart leads USF with a .493 on-base percentage and a .590 slugging percentage, recording 10 doubles and three triples. Her .382 batting average ranks eighth best during a single season at USF. The USF junior, who was chosen for this honor by NFCA member coaches from each region, will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third team that will be announced on ESPN during the Women’s College World Series. 11. Prediction: This will be the most "interesting" thread for Thursday...
  12. SETTING THE SCENE: The University of Cincinnati baseball team closes the 2005 regular season in a must-win series at USF, which gets underway on Thursday (May 19) at 7 p.m. The Bearcats, at 10-16 in Conference USA, must win all three games of the weekend series to earn the eighth and final available spot in next week’s C-USA Tournament presented by POWERade. UC is 25-27 overall after an 8-4 victory over Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday night. USF (29-29 overall) currently holds the No. 8 position at 12-14 in league play and can clinch the final position in the tournament with one win this weekend. ABOUT USF: The Bulls have dropped four games in a row to slide to 29-29 overall and 12-14 in Conference USA play. After winning a pair of mid-week contests against No. 12 Florida last week, the Bulls were swept by Southern Miss over the weekend to drop them to eighth in the league standings. USF can clinch a trip to next week’s conference tournament with one win over the Bearcats. Offensively, the Bulls are led by Jeff Baisley who is enjoying a fine season as the squad’s third baseman. Baisley leads the team with a .364 average, in addition to team-highs of 26 doubles and 64 RBI. He also has seven home runs. On the mound, sophomore Casey Hudspeth is the staff ace, holding a 7-5 record and a 4.14 ERA in 15 starts. The bullpen is anchored by Tim Mattison who has a 1.51 ERA and a team-best seven saves. UC will be trying to snap a five-game losing streak to the Bulls that dates back to the 2003 season. Link to UC Release
  13. Of the Big East sports, only Swimming and Diving makes sense to me. Start with the women to keep all the Title IXers happy, add Men's later if at all. I don't much get into the Women's Soccer or Basketball as I am used to the competition, strength, speed and athleticism in Mens sports (okay, boo me). In a sport like Diving, the requirements for such are much more level. Men and women's diving has equal appeal (lean to the ladies ) compared to Men and Womens Basketball. Call me what you will, but that is the sole reason I would select Diving and Swimming over a Women's Field Hockey or Lacrosse team.
  14. As "successful" as Huggy Beer has been at Cincy, I do not see our administration bringing in a guy that lacks such personal and professional responsibiliity.  There are much safer bets out there for the same or lower price tag.  This of course is my speculation only should that day come that we need to look for another HC. modified to correct typo
  15. I'm confused DW, did any of the people in the mascot outfit get run over by cars?  That one guy does look like he lost a best friend.. "My friend got ran over at UConn, and all I got was this lousy mascot uniform."
  16. VOTE NOW(Voting End Midnight Pacific Time May 17th) Results will be posted by Sunday...

  18. Oh well, we still have a chance to avoid elimination from the C-USA Tournament field.... If you blow the lead consistently....never mind.
  19. How is that any better?  We had the crappy grass basepaths years ago and got rid of them...CB, you've been drawn into the rhetoric...take my hand, I'll guide you out....
  20. Thanks for the update. Protecting leads has been a problem for years... Hope they hold on.
