I am hearing that a deal was done with CJL and the board of trustees did not approve the deal. Can someone make sure that a question is asked of the university tomorrow to confirm or deny this???

This was my initial post in this topic...I really just wanted to try to get an answer. I heard this via Grothe on twitter. Never said it was 100% fact but just wanted to see if anyone else knew anything. I just did what everyone else does which was to provide info and hope for more info. We all want the best for the program and want to win again!

That’s a far too simplistic topic you are trying to debate.  It is not living in the past, it’s repairing the past to build a better foundation for going forward.  I don’t expect that has value to you.  It would be no different than taking LRS back if that were possible.  Or if LRS had left for Oklahoma and then wished to return to USF.  Or god forbid, a nasty, scorned local beat writer did him in because he bumped an office asst.  We might let a little time pass and bring him back.  He did so much for USF and Tampa, LRS did. Regardless, if you aren’t open to the discussion, don’t feel a need to be part of it.  That’s probably the best response.  I think there is value in reconnecting the program.  Involvement of Leavitt would be part of that.  Something more than a statue as he’s on his death bed.  Those that don’t see it as an opportunity, that’s fine.

Leavitt just posted on twitter...he may have gotten a job somewhere

We can argue all day. I believe Leavitt would have a great influence on the program.  Others wish to move on.  That’s fine.  For those that have a different assessment of the program’s needs, this goes down as a missed opportunity. Rental coaches will always be available.  Rebuilds can happen every 3-4 years.   There likely won’t be the chance again to use Leavitt to restore the history and awe of the program’s early days.  We divorced from those in 2010.  Fans have gone away since.  It would have been great to really see BullsUnite.  But as you can see here,  this fan base is not unifying it’s dividing.

I think that the reason he fit our program is he was the underdog, the new kid on the block, the man in the trailer just trying to build something. The people who were around when the trailer was there, understand he was the hope that we all had wanting to be talked about along side UF, UM, FSU...like Brad said, some of us felt that we are in a bad place and maybe he was the one to rescue us. We need the type of passion that us so called Leavitt lovers have...That is what is lost from our fan base. Have you seen all the empty seats at RayJay? Maybe youtube some of the big games during 2007-2009 and see the upperdeck filled with fans. Why wouldn't we want that back?

Can we stop the suspicion and name-calling of each other?  New members join and are routinely attacked or challenged because they disagree with one partisan block or the other.

Please focus on topics and debate and not who’s a troll, “Leavitt slurper” or “just joined two days ago!” and hence is buried in skepticism.

Some of you are too happy to insult others that have a different opinion, read of the tea leaves or simply want something different for USF or themselves

No need to vilify those you disagree with or feel you defeated them because of the alleged selection of the new head coach.

Discuss freely, fairly and with respect for other members.  It’s not your job to root out fakes.  We do that.

    So, knock it off, please.

Correct! We all want the best for USF! Go Bulls!

It wouldn’t hurt to expect a little openness or honesty from an institution of higher learning, would it?

However, I don’t believe MK ever talked to Leavitt.  No idea if the BoT was ever called upon re:Leavitt.

Agreed, so we don't end up with a secret buyout like what happened with xCCS, that is the whole reason as I think we all deserve a little more transparency. If they want us to send money to support the IPF and buy season tickets it would be nice to know what is actually happening with the money. I think we are all a little snakebit from the issues from the past.

Grothe is not a USF decision maker.

Him saying “It was almost a done deal and not sure what shifted. But it looks like something happened“ doesn’t hold much water to me.

And if you think the University doesn’t want the football program to succeed, why would they go and hire a multi-national championship winning coordinator with direct local ties?

Yes, but how did CCS work out? He had won Natl Championships as a D coord with Florida. If we had Dabo coming in, I would agree with you 100%.

If you have reason to think the BoT played a role, spit out your evidence or stop stirring the pot.

There is nothing suggesting this is the case other than a user who only joined here half a week ago.

It was taken from Grothe, check his twitter...if it is not true, then I would not have any issue with it. But if it is actually true, we would have to question whether the university actually wants athletics to succeed. They have a proven history of focusing on the research aspect over athletics.

This... Forget about CJL for a minute here... IF indeed CJL was MKs guy and the BoT vetoed it... I think we have bigger issues and wouldn't get too attached to MK. I highly doubt that this is true, but, it would be a real cause for concern about how much USF is really supporting their athletics department and specifically the guy they have tasked with running it if they won't let him make the decisions.

Yes, I agree they would be undermining the AD...that is my biggest concern. If he never was MKs guy, then fine, but if they rejected it, that would be a bad situation.

I don’t know where Joey gets his stuff from. But when ESPN, CBS, SI, The Athletic, 247, and all others report a deal is being finalized, it’s worth paying attention to.

Do you plan on sticking around here after the deal is made official?

Yes, I will support it, but just hope to know what the facts are surrounding CJL. If he was never a real candidate, then it will be fine, but if he was rejected by the bot, I would feel like they didn't support MK.
