He is half the year thru the maximum 2 years he will have to turn things around, if he think he will be able to win 5 games next season and then get to go 14-0 in year three he will find himself a day late and a dollar short. He knew he was coming here to be an OC (the best job he has ever had by far) and CCS has given him full autonomy over the offense, he can call whatever shots he would like and the only problem that exists for him is that he is calling the wrong shots for his situation. His offense here is awful, this is 100 percent his fault and his responsibility, he has at most 2 years to save his and CCS' jobs, should he get unceremoniously fired from here he will be right back in DIIII where he belongs and will never be heard from again.

Yeah it’s a tough situation obviously he took the job but doesn’t mean it’s a good situation. Obviously there is a talent issue and qb issue here. And I wouldn’t say he’s calling the wrong shots. He’s game planning defenses and being creative with different runs and getting people wide open down the field. Even early in the season vs Wisconsin he got 2 receivers open and they dropped the ball for big plays. Last year schedule was a lot easier than this years. At least we are not running the same plays over and over again. Same 2 run plays and jump ball passes without any game planning like we did the last couple years. Let’s be honest, when we had good offenses here we had Q, BJ, and grothe. Same with teams in our conference. Bell will get that. Always finds a good qb and understands talent in Florida.

If I said there was no other option but to run because the last qb willing to still go back into the game said “hey coach can we please start running the ball” why would I have to come up with more options?
Also let’s try a thought experiment let’s say you are facing a qb that can’t throw more than 50 yds but the OC keeps running go routs past that mark at which point the defensive backs stop dead allowing them to run free would it be the QBs fault that he can’t hit the wide open receivers ? And if he was actually hitting them do you think they would continue to be wide open?

When it comes to actually converting passing plays KB and his turn the ball over faster offense is ranked 110th and at the end of the day what you actually accomplish with the team you actually have is all that maters, not what people wish you could do or pretend they see in some theoretical alternative universe.

KB is on track to have one of the worst passing offenses we have ever had and this is hardly the worst tools or toughest schedules we have ever faced, the OC has no clothes and everyone pretending they see something are only doing so because they are embarrassed of buying into the DIiiii hype train.

Or Maybe ckb stayed aggressive and took some deep balls over top on the post to separate or to keep the defense honest so they wouldn’t put more players at the line of scrimmage to stop the run. mccloud obviously likes to run the ball and we don’t complain when he takes off and runs to get first downs or touchdowns. Last week vs BYU mccloud ran a zone read play that he scored a touchdown on the goal line to take the lead. At Valdosta state the Qb run game was a big part of ckb Offense. The reason I think ckb offense is going to be great for us if he has time is because he has the same qb runs and spread game to get the players the ball in space just like the gco when we had flowers. But also he knows how to throw the ball down the field on a nfl level and help guys get open unlike we had before. After all the big time coaches to come through Valdosta state, they rave about ckb and what he did there. People are saying this year even with the same players there the offense isn’t nearly as explosive and good. His first year at Jacksonville he went 3 and 9 and then won the conference year 2. His second year at Valdosta state they won 5 games and struggled on offense with young guys and young qb, then the next year went 14 and 0.  I think if we give him time and gets what he needs we will have the best offense we have had here. He has always recruited and got what he needs every where he’s been. Issue is it’s not his program. This is his first time not being a head coach and calling the shots. That could be a problem.

    What were the other options?

I don’t know you tell me ? We don’t have guys as of now that are good in space. Ford is suspended. I don’t care if ckb runs it with 2 tight ends successfully or throws it every down with 5 receivers on the field. Whatever he thinks is the best way to move the ball and win. Obviously ckb went run heavy because the young qb was hurt and wanted to take it out of his hands. Tennessee or usc couldn’t even run the ball as well vs BYU. Why  they lost. I think ckb is coaching and doing whatever he can to play to Mccloud strength and the defenses weaknesses which is what great Oc’s do. We had more receivers running open than usc and Tennessee did and Tennessee has one of the highest paid Oc’s and usc is suppose to have one of the top up up and coming Oc’s that runs the air raid.

  4. 4 minutes ago, puc86 said:

There is no way you actually believe that; KBs offense as he attempts to run it has looked serviceable exactly twice against the two FCS level schools we have faced and running it would have been the game plan for any other person facing BYU sans us and we didn’t even make the adjustment out of the gate at half, we ran because we physically had no other option not because we made an adjustment.

That’s not true. And power 5 usc and Tennessee struggled vs BYU defense with better players. Obviously ckb kept running the ball and actually we did have other options. Ckb ran a lot of play action passes and the young Qb missed them because he was hurt. They were wide open multiple times.

  5. Mccloud ran around a lot in high school. Ckb has been running a lot of max protections and quick passing game. Mccloud needs to get rid of the ball. First play of the game last week was a pass quick to running back. He threw it in the ground! You can tell ckb is game planing and doing everything to help the young qb be successful. Even sprinting him out and went run heavy with 2 tight ends last week.

Their defense seems better than last year, we know they're going to control the ball and the clock and try to grind our defense down.

We will need some solid sustained drives to give the defense a rest and give them less time to run their playbook.

Even with them throwing more, if USF can actually come out swinging hard and put some points on the board, Navy playing from behind is their weakness, they will stick to their playbook but if we could somehow muster up a more than 7 point lead and maintain it into the 4th, they'll start running out of time to execute their 30 play, 8-10 minute offensive drives.

There new DC is from fcs Kennesaw State. Think they were the best defense in the country last year in fcs.

  7. Just like I said it all comes down to recruiting. Last 3 years ucf has recruited good QBs and explosive players. We obviously haven’t. Defensively we don’t look very fast or explosive for a Florida school. Offensively this staff hasn’t found a Qb since Q left and our best player that puts fear into defenses is suspended. That’s why CKB was brought here. I think he can recruit and understands talent in this state. At Valdosta state last year he had 3 seniors go to the NFL at a d2 school and one was drafted. We had I think 1 as a free agent. All the offensive players that are still starting there and making plays we’re sophomores and freshman last year. The are 6 and 0 and on a 21 game win streak since last year. I believe if he gets the time here, he’s going to have us a Good Qb and explosive skill players. He already brought Latrell Williams in who they say is the best receiver on the team. Look at all the speed and lineman in this offensive class. Also ckb has offered a couple juco skill players so obviously he thinks we need help now. Plus 2 Qb commits that talent wise probably shouldn’t be committed to the same school.

Ford, he is no where to be found during this suspension.

Small RB's behind a bad OLINE sounds  a recipe for disaster.

Ckb love speed and at Vsu likes guys who can make guys miss 1on1 in space. Look what UCF has done with recruiting speed and home run hitters in the back field! This is Florida we need more dynamic guys here. That’s why UCF has been so good.

The threat of Mack opened things up for Flowers, and vice versa. Adams on the Jet sweep added another dimension. That offense was custom made for the talent we had, particularly the three I mentioned. The GCO was great while it lasted, but the odds of assembling Flowers/Mack/Adams type talent again is highly unlikely. As far as Bell's offense, we'll see what kind of progress is made as the season goes. Long way to go before it gets to the level you think it can get to.

Yeah no doubt! I don’t believe it will happen this year! Ckb just like the other places he was at he’s going to go out and recruit and need to get the Players he needs to be dynamic and balanced. Just don’t know if he will get the time to! Wouldn’t be surprised if he got a head coaching job and ended up being very successful doing it his way.

Bell had a grad assistant season the year he graduated and some decade before he attempted to coach. I have freely posted that screenshot and have always said the word position coach to preemptively  negate that sad grasping at straws. Having coached at any level doesn’t make you a bad coach having always coached at a low level for decades does, ie KB.

That’s not true see you don’t even know what your talking about. Bell got drafted by dolphins then tore his a couple years later and went back and GA for him.

Of all the offenses ranked 109 out of 130 ours is obviously the best, maybe trying something over again or trying to run something we maybe good at is perhaps a better idea than whatever it is KB is doing statistically close to the worst in the country that only a handful of people on this board seems to appreciate.

What exactly are we good at with as of right now ??? below average fbs Qbs, and no explosive playmakers ? Our best player on offense who is the only one that has that ability is suspended.

We beat a power 5 team without ford. And a young qb that struggled badly. If he played better we score at least 2 more touchdowns.

Ckb left a place that he built his own and recruited his own for the situation he’s in now where he’s trying to put the pieces that he’s been given together and its not a whole lot.

I think he sucks so far. But I didn't decide that before he coached a game.

I mean I can respect the opinion but is our talent at Qb, oline, and skill players like it use to be? Maybe USF just hasn’t recruited well the last 3 years. I don’t see the speed and explosive players like Q, Mack, Valdez, Adams on that field. Look at Ucf guys! They look like a real Florida team they have soooo much speed and QB that really play! Before he got hurt one of the best in the country.

In the roughly 100 coaches we have gone thru i think there has been roughly 3 examples of FCS level or lower coaches and with no FBS level experience that went onto go straight to an offensive coordinator position at a P5 or AAC school. People bring up random coaches and almost all of them have FBS experience yet we ignore it and bring the exact same wrong examples up the next day.

Bell worked at Florida under spurrier aka power 5 , also was Oc in the cfl. So how did Will Hall get a fbs Oc job from west Georgia ? By the way he never came close to doing what ckb did in the same conference, neither did mike leach or holgerson who are 2 of the top offensive minds in college football ? Am I right ? Rich rod was also d2 at glenville state ! Brian kelly d2 Offense could t touch ckb and he’s the head coach at last year final 4 Notre Dame!

His game plan almost single handedly cost us the game and at after failing miserably as he has at every moment we have had the misfortune of suffering thru his tenure the qb said “hey stupid you are getting me killed with your garbage ideas think there is a chance we can try some of that running stuff?”

Qb didn’t get hit once in the pocket, didn’t give up any sacks so that’s a false narrative. Mccloud has to throw ball away and slide more! He’s a freshman he holds on the sons times when people underneath are open. Last week when team blitzed to help qb ckb went max protection. Whatever the defense gives him gameplan wise he does it. Doesn’t just run the same plays every week hoping the players just make plays , that doesn’t work vs the teams just as talented. Why we haven’t won a conference championship

You can fantasize all you like about all the unrealized potential of KB but to date there is nothing to indicate he will be successful at this level and his progression is atypical and less likely to be successful than actually moving up the ranks of higher level football.

For your sakes you better hope he doesn’t get the head coaching job here. Because he would build the program just likes he’s always done and win the conference championship!

  16. By the way here is a fun fact, Will Hall who is the Offensive Coordinator at Tulane who is having a big time year on offense. Was a GSC d2 Coach. He was the head coach at West Georgia, CKB first year at VSU, Will Hall had one of the best teams in Division 2. 2 seniors drafted off of it and CKB our coached him and beat rival West Georgia. Was a Great game! Like I said give him time to get what he needs and he will kill it here in Florida! Just hope he gets the opportunity to build what he needs and has the time with CCS recruiting and being on the hot seat.

In all fairness I didn’t even know there was a DII until we brought KB on staff.

That’s bad a lot of nfl players from d2! They call the GSC the SEC of d2! Guys like tyreke Hill, janoris Jenkins, Malcom Butler, Greg reed, Kenny Moore, Malcom Butler, Ryan schaeder, and more. Coaches like mike leach, Dana holgerson, Kirby smart, will muschamp, dc at Houston, dc at Iowa are from Valdosta State!

He was only handed a job here because he is friends with CCS, that’s the definition of being handed a job. Prior to this his only movement was getting fired from a non scholarship school and moving down to DII. He is here because he has no great options and the reason that is the case is because to date he has demonstrated that he is not great.

Actually didn’t get fired at Jacksonville, just didn’t get contract renewed because they didn’t want to keep pushing football to full scholarship and new president didn’t want to pay him a lot. Funny how he went 9 and 2 that year and went 9 and 2 the year before. By the way since he left Jacksonville has 0 winning season and won 2 games last year!

  19. Let’s be honest with ourselves. We don’t have a lot of explosive playmakers on offense. Our best offense of player who can make big plays is suspended. The Quarterback situation is bad for a FBS school. Senior who couldn’t do it and a redshirt freshman who hasn’t proved anything with a bunch of walk ons. It all comes down to recruiting the last 3 years, CKB walked into this situation. He’s obviously doing everything he can do to figure it out to put the players in the best situation. We all seen USF play last 10 years and we don’t have near the players we had with Mack and Q. The GCO and briles offense is high school. The only reason it worked here is because Flowers was at Qb. He ran around and made plays and we had so much speed and playmakers around him. Against teams with just as good players like now at FSU the offense struggles because it’s too simple and run the same plays and same pass protections. We have to recruit better and this offense with how Versatile and balanced it can be with the nfl back ground and spread concepts, with the right guys, can maybe take us over the top and win the conference championship! Ckb has done it every where he’s been with explosive and efficient offensives. He knows how to coach and create plays To help guys get open. We just have to give him time to recruit to do it!

This theory isn’t grounded in anything that has actually happened in reality. If I just hit the same wide open balls on power ball as the ones that got picked instead there would be hundreds of millions of dollars difference in my bank account. KB is a perennial 20 year lowest level of football coach and if there was any genius to his plan to set back offenses 20 years he wouldn’t be coaching here.

Ckb liked being a head coach, and liked being in Jacksonville and was getting paid a lot at a fcs school. he moved up on his own. He didn’t work for someone else and get handed a job. Plus he was a lot older when he got into coaches compared to people that do it out of college. He got his opportunity here and he took it!

Mhmm Brian Kelly went from d2 coach to central Michigan. Ckb played a lot of years of Quarterback for 11 different offensive coordinators. That experience matters. Being a OC in Canada is professional football. Mike leach went from Oc at Valdosta state to Oc at Kentucky.......Gus went from high school to Arkansas.

  22. 10 minutes ago, puc86 said:

Obviously you haven’t watched any of the offense since KB has been here. Against any team not of the FCS variety we have not been able to advance the ball at all. When Barnett was in it was his fault and when McCloud was in it was his fault. The only time anyone can produce in it is when they are not playing against FBS level competition. To date we are 110th in passing and it is entirely on KB for running what is to date the worst scheme we have tried implementing here.

His offense just ran for 240 yards vs a power 5 team that beat usc and Tennessee who has better players. If mccloud wasn’t hurt or whatever. He missed a lot of open guys and touchdown passes. Ckb is game planning and getting guys open. Just have to hit them. If they hit the wide open wrs could have scored 40 or 50!
