And he may not get fired. Could always have a change in his role to less on field responsibilities and more fundraising or something
This is what I think will happen if Golesh turns out to be a disaster.

With all the resources we have, and the leg up of being in the Big East and AAC (1.0, not current form) there should be no galaxy where teams like North Texas, FAU, and Rice have surpassed us in men's basketball and football. It happened under Kelly. We are not talking about being bad over the last 5 years, we are talking about being rock bottom. I don't think demanding 4 wins in football and 12 wins in basketball is a reach or unreasonable. Most of my USF friends that I am still in touch with ( many of who have given up on USF sports) believe Kelly should have been fired after the men's basketball coaching hire fiasco. I believe he gets one last shot, but his new coaching hires need to come out with a bang.
I have a few co workers who are USF alumni/supporters and at lunch, the topic of “how does Kelly still have a job?” comes up quite frequently

Didn’t UNF almost beat BYU in a bowl game last year?
No

Nice! Line could be at -50 and I wouldn't care.
Bulls will win. This is not BYU for crying out loud.
I just hope Brown starts at QB to fully flex on them.
You should go lay down some money on that. Just take USF money line.

And I think you are probably right. I think that's the reason why we are near the bottom in both men's basketball and football; a lack of accountability. There is no other program that would tolerate the amount of losing we have. Look at FAU that just fired Taggart. Ask Outlaw what probably would have happened at USF under Kelly in the same circumstances.
If we win one game next year after 4 wins, 1 win, 2 wins, and 1 win and Kelly isn't fired than I don't know what t say. Especially if you consider how bad we have been in men's basketball as well. That said I fully expect us to win at least 4 games, and all this will probably be moot
I just think the Powers that be will allow Kelly’s hire, Golesh, to have three seasons, before they make any decisions on Kelly. If Golesh ends up being another Charlie Strong or Jeff Scott then Kelly won’t be hiring the next coach.

I think it alot of it depends on our record at the time could be 5k ot 22k.
I don’t think the record will matter. Many students will be home for Thanksgiving break and the casual fan is not going to show up on a holiday weekend for Charlotte. Not sure how well Charlotte fans travel but I am assuming they won’t be much of a presence

I am hoping we can get more then the 4 wins, but if Golesh comes out and only wins 3 games (or less), after the last 5 years we would have no choice but to fire Kelly. It would be 5 years where we got 4 wins, 1 win, 2 wins, 1 win, 3 wins. I hope it doesn't come to that but having a clear marker where we need to see at least 4 wins is not unreasonable. Any other line of work and Kelly would have been fired already. And I don't buy the OCS argument. We are building the OCS because we have no choice after being left behind again in conference realignment
We could go 1-11 again and Kelly won’t be fired IMO.

So is the 0.8 of a moral victory when you cover the spread yet lose the game?
Yes ,it’s when Alabama calls off the dogs at halftime and only wins by 35.

North Texas next year, Charlotte in ‘26. Lotta teams, lotta teams.
We are playing Charlotte this season during Thanksgiving weekend in front of what I am guessing will be about 17k through the turnstiles at RayJay.

Yes at the very least ( is it the board or is it the President?) should be considering candidates for if the move needs to be made. Coaches were just hired so they deserve 2 to 3 years, but Kelly has been with us for about 5 years. If the upcoming season produces subpar and disappointing results (that would be 6 years) the move should happen in the next year or so. I think the FAU AD would be a great candidate.
I think the only other thing besides good results fast that could save Kelly is a Power 5 invite.
Kelly would probably be re-assigned rather than being fired. I do believe the powers in charge want to keep him around through 2026 when the stadium is finished. If Golesh is a disaster, he will likely be fired during or right after the 2025 season and I could then see Kelly’s job title changing (reassigned) and then the next AD hiring the FB coach for 2026.

So now were planning to find the replacement for the guy who will hire the replacement for the guy who hasn't coached a single game? I like to see that we are planning ahead these days.
Every scenario must be accounted for.

That starts for me when I see football program winning again...I'm surprised I'm even still here at this point its been absolutely brutal as a USF football fan these last 3 years.
I really hope Golesh is the guy that gets the program turned around not sure we can afford he isn't the guy at this point for the programs sake.
If Golesh isn’t the guy, hopefully we can get an AD in here who can find and hire the right guy.

The aac is absolute trash and I will celebrate the day when USF finally breaks free of this minor league garbage conference.

If you say so. USF would jump at the chance to join the Big 12 if offered.
They absolutely would. It’s ridiculous to think otherwise

Money talks. If he can get this program turned around he will be gone after 4-5 seasons. In my opinion that is a very good problem for USF to have .

We're not even in the Big 12, and I don't even think we're on the list, and the AD feels like they need to take a jab at us?
I'm sorry but no to the Big 12. If we have to be stuck with this ridiculousness no. Not worth the money. They would make being in the Big 12 as fun as being at the Ritz Carlton but with a drunk clown following everywhere you go. They're so full of themselves, the fake claims of grandiosity never end. Look at the reddit thread for this tweet, not even the rest of CFB thinks they're cute (maybe a one-off "I love them lol").
I really see their culture as toxic and I just don't see how it's gonna play out for them in the long run, but more importantly I don't want to be around it.
Disagree. I would cry tears of joy if the Big 12 invited USF tomorrow. Anything is better than the conference we are currently in IMO.

Didn't want to start a new thread. But if we upset Alabama I won't be there to see it. My tix sold. The rest of the year won't be free but will make it easier to tolerate.
My tickets sold as well. What I got for them won’t pay for the season like I had hoped but I was able to get about three of the home games paid for. I still may buy cheap tickets for the Alabama game and still go, but most likely I will be watching from home.
I did give away my tickets to the Rice game since I will be in Vegas that weekend. Looks like I will be at four home games this coming season.

Yep, needed a miracle comeback to beat a winless Tulsa team at the time as well. I have never seen a 7-0 team play that poorly. Spotted Houston 14 and matched them giving us hope, but eventually reality sunk in and we realized we sucked all along just like we thought we did.
Hell we have only won like 6 or 7 games a few were FCS out of the last 50 plus games. When you think about it, it is downright pathetic, we are pitiful. In my opinion the back to back tenures of Strong and Scott set the program back about 15 years.

Fully agree with the #13 ranking. They need to prove it on the field.

if we cant go 0.500 in this conference or get near bowling status 0.500 overall then AD MK must go. We need an AD that prioritizes winning as the goal and lets it be known losing is not unacceptable. Look at what White did for UCF and now Tennessee. We need a homerun AD not a strikeout like AD MK.
Well if Golesh turns out to be a disaster I am pretty certain MK will be fired or reassigned to a position where he is not making coaching hires.

CJS had the Clemson pedigree and his father won that one game the year he was fired with South Carolina. They were both very consistent in building a culture of togetherness. They didn’t win but they had grit and determination and sometimes that is what you need to build the foundation of a successful team. I truly believe if he was around another year or two that he could have won another game, maybe even two. The extensions at the time was exactly what was needed for consistency and that is indisputable.
Some of my co-workers and I still laugh about what a horrid coach Jeff Scott was. How in the world did he ever bamboozle MK into hiring him? I wonder if MK was hoodwinked some by Dabo during the hiring process, who knows? It’s the one concern I have about Golesh……what if MK was hoodwinked again?

It was stupid auto correct that said if they didn't both perform near or above 0.500 ad mk must got.
Golesh gets a pass this season due to the titanic mess left behind by the Strong and Scott regimes. We should know about midway to late in the 2024 season whether Golesh is the man or not. Regardless he is going to get three years just like Scott received.

I hope you are right. After enduring Strong’s last season and three seasons with Jeff Scott, I would cry tears of joy if we won five games this year.
