one of my GT grad co-workers posted on my FB, when I told her we beat them:  "Well, we're known to recruit more for academics than athleticism".  I'm sure the bulk of their players are in Mensa.

I gave her a very polite:  "Oh, brother.  Maybe you can move to the Ivy Leagues, and we'll take your ACC slot".

I don't buy this for a second. I don't care how low a school's acceptance rate, any of the competitive programs make a lot of allowances for athletes' admissions. USF actually does a decent job not making too much of a drop off in requirements. I remember years ago players being turned down here and walking right into other programs, specifically Louisville.

    And there's this: https://www.fromtherumbleseat.com/2014/3/12/5500068/georgia-tech-to-allow-more-academic-exceptions-for-football

  2. I know it's way early to be too concerned but is anybody else worried about the run defense? Elon fell behind so they didn't run that much but they still averaged 3.9 yards per rush. GA Tech rushed for 412 yards and 7.2 yards per rush (Yikes!). The thing that saved us was five turnovers forced in the two games. But how long can we rely on that?

I guess the question is, will they settle down or will this be like 2015 (I think?) where we had to rely on Q and the offense to put up 30+ points a game? Also, I know GA Tech is a special case but I'm still a little worried.

I was listening to the Daily Stampede podcast they made an interesting point that the depth chart has way too many first year players in the two deep for the team be successful. Is this a legitimate concern?

I prefer to think that some of the freshmen are so good they can't be kept off the field. But yeah, it was surprising to see that.

So he hasn’t “been covering it”. He just mentioned it for the first time today when he stuck out to everyone.

I'm not defending Joey's coverage, i just mentioned that he was covering this today. He brought it up that Mathis was on the roster which got the conversation going and it ended up on here.

Maybe if the beat reporter actually cared to do his job we’d know.

Joey has been covering it on Twitter.
