  1. I think everyone was somewhat surprised at how quick it was, with it being his alma mater and all. He really seemed to love WKU (check out some of his media quotes from the past couple of days). I think most were just upset he didn't stay for the bowl game. But many now see him as someone on the "Mount Rushmore of WKU Football" because of what he did for the program. It's crazy the parallel to what has happened at South Florida. He went 2-10 his first year at WKU, started the next season 0-5 and then ended it 7-5, and then 7-5 the next season before leaving for USF.
  2. *sigh*... Bowling Green is located in a relatively flat area of the state (the Mammoth Cave watershed for the geography and geology nerds out there). However, in the middle of the downtown area, there is a 150ft hill. The university began at the very top of the hill back in 1906. The townspeople began to refer to the students who walked up the hill to class as the "Hilltoppers" and the name stuck and became synonymous with WKU. Now as for out big red blob (creatively named "Big Red")...I have no idea. The official media guide says he represents the "Spirit of Western" so yeah, sure. He is an awesome/fun mascot though, so be sure to keep an eye on him during the game.
