will have primary responsibilities directing the day-to-day operations of the athletic department and providing leadership to sport administrators and other key internal departments.

sounds like Michael Kelly is busy enough with long term goals like conference expansion, facilities upgrades, and fundraising that he needs help with day to day operations?

At the ACC, she oversaw all of the conference office's Olympic sports budgets, schedules, the implementation of all Olympic sports television contracts, championship facilities and host site agreements, ball agreements, officiating staffs and supervisors of officials

Very familiar with a P5 conference's budgets, TV contracts, and facilities. Could be a good advisor for the direction we need to head in to be considered for a conference of the ACC's stature.

  2. Being in the same conference as Army/Navy/Air Force actually could really help with TV Deals. According to these it looks like Army vs Navy is comfortably more watched than Texas vs Oklahoma.

Army-Navy ratings declined for the first time in eight years, but the game still delivered its second-largest audience since 1992.

Texas-Oklahoma ratings hit a seven-year high as the "Red River Rivalry" jumped 67 percent over last year. It was the top college football game of week six.

  3. Timeline at this point imo

Texas/OU are filing for admission to the SEC this morning.

BIG 12 teams have been sending out feelers. I think ACC is only expanding if Notre Dame is one of those teams, if so they'll grab either WVU or Cincy as the second team. I'd be surprised if Notre Dame leaves so I don't think they're expanding.

If none of the BIG 12 teams are able to jump ship they'll really drag their feet before inviting any other members. They want to see what happens with the Big 10/PAC. Is the Big 10 going to invite PAC members, or are they going to make some type of alliance between the two conferences. If its the former the BIG 12 doesn't want to already have invited a bunch of G5 teams when Arizona, ASU, Utah, etc are leftover from the PAC teams that didn't get poached. Also because of this I think the BIG 10 is in no rush to invite Kansas until they've explored this option.

This dragging of the feet means no G5 is getting an invite until next offseason. Gives USF a year to get the 1-8 stench off of us. Also our IPF will be nearing completion and we should have a president at this time.

  4. I've accepted we aren't getting into the highest level of football unless they go bigger than 40-60 teams. On our football acumen anyway...

US News called us the fastest rising University last year, we keep them on our good side and continue to climb the rankings and become a top 50 overall University. That plus having the #1 cancer hospital in the southeast US on our campus and becoming a major player in the research game could get us to AAU membership...in 20 years. But even still, that won't be enough.

The city of Tampa grew 21% in the last 10 years. By 2030 the Tampa skyline will have been over doubled since 2019. On that 20 year timeline, by 2040 Tampa could be double its current size. Then we'd be about the size of current San Fran/Seattle. Being the only D1 football team in the area we'll sell out games just because there's enough people with nothing better to do.

Now with this market and academic reputation the BIG 10 will be looking to add us to expand into Florida. But there is a drawback, due to head injury research football is no longer a sport.

That means the Big 12 deal could drop from $37 million in annual revenue to as low as $9 million per school. Considering there aren't two schools available that come close to replacing the value of Texas and Oklahoma, the Big 12 is in troubled waters to say the least.

If this is the case then screw joining the Big 12, the American may have more power than I thought. Invite all 8, worst case we end up with 19 then invite BYU or Boise and have our own 20 team conference

Bottom line is, the remaining 8 B12 schools plus the top 2 - 4 AAC schools is a better conference than the AAC would be adding B12 teams...and will get more TV money than the AAC would get by adding B12 teams.

Think there is a clear top 5 in the AAC brand-value wise. Cincy, Houston, UCF, USF, and Memphis. Big 12 adds those 5 and BYU and that's a pretty good 14 team conference.

IF Kansas and Iowa State go to the B1G, there will likely be more movement. I think that TCU, OK State, and Texas Tech could offer enough to the Pac 12 to potentially entice them to join. However, the move of UT and OU to the SEC is so monumental, I could see the B1G trying to raid the Pac 12 or ACC to improve their standing relative to the SEC. If the B1G wants to try and make a run at Oregon, USC, UCLA, and Stanford, it could spell the end of the Pac 12 as well. There is so much that could happen that trying to project anything at this point, without any additional information, is fruitless.

Kind of how I feel. Wouldn't be surprised if 10 years from now the SEC and BIG 10 each have 20 teams and the winner of each league plays in a championship. Then the best of the rest will have to figure out how to make their own conferences and basically be a different level of college football.

  8. Loved that last part:

"Did you know that if 5% of our USF alumni would join the Bulls Club our total members in the Bulls Club would increase by over 500%?  (STRENGTH IN NUMBERS)

Did you know that if 5% of our USF alumni would purchase 2 season tickets we would BREAK THE RECORD with the most season tickets ever sold at USF?"

Because it reminded me of the style of post someone would make on a message board talking about how we have the numbers we just need to get them involved. Not sure if that's a good sign or a bad sign though that they're including it in the email.

There does seem to be more of an effort to outreach to alumni lately though. Not sure the age of the users here but they've been reaching out to younger alumni about a new BOLD (Bulls Of the Last Decade) program that will have events and outreach to get young alumni more involved in the Bulls community. Already got my season tickets, just deciding now if I would rather join the Bulls Club or dump all the money I would pay to join into the Football Facility fund.

  9. There's a fine line between good and bad. Jeff Scott had one of the tougher situations in college football history for a year 1 coach last year (covid offseason and a team that was coming off a 4-14 stretch).

Even so we still grabbed defeat from the jaws of victory against Temple and Memphis. And we lost to UCF by 12 but had 2 backbreaking fumbles by Kelly Joiner at midfield that resulted in UCF touchdowns, if those fumbles don't happen and we those drives result in points for us we likely win.

Win those and we finish last year 4-5 with a win over our rival and are probably teetering to the brim with optimism right now. But we lost those games due to things that would normally be worked on in a regular offseason: red zone offense, ball security, game management, etc.

I think there's a good chance we go bowling this year. But I'll wait till the fall depth chart comes out before making any predictions. Specifically interested to see the sizes on the defensive line compared to last year.

If the B12 stays together, here is what we will hopefully be singing to WVU soon:

Feels like a big IF at this point. Seems like a sure thing that Texas/Oklahoma are out, and looking like Kansas is going too. My guess at that point would be USF, UCF, and Cincy get the invite. But if Ok State leaves too then it may be a free for all of Big 12 teams trying to find new homes
