So basically someone's word is irrelevant.  Got it.

Wonder what would happen if I told my boss I was going to do something and then didn't do it.

Words matter.  Don't make a quote if there is any possibility you might not back it up.  It's really that simple.  Just say nothing, that way you can do whatever you want.

It's nice to see the straw man argument rearing it's ugly head.

  2. Didn't we just get a OL transfer from Tennessee, RJ Perry, a Baylor WR Seth Jones and Edge Rusher DJ Harris Jr from Texas?  I didn't see it listed in the official list of transfers yet.

As I scroll back, I see someone listed the Texas transfer.  This thread is so bloated and out of control....lol!

So our defense is already bad and we lose all our receivers, our kicker and our top RB so how are we going to be any good next year? What am I missing?

I hate to be mister negativity but we aren't.  You aren't missing anything.  With the new coach hire, there was hope that he'd magically bring in lots of talent to rebuild the defense and improve the team overall.   That didn't really happen, so here we are.

OK I am a little worried now.  I wasn't until Battie left.

The main question I have is, why can't Golesh keep the players on his roster.  What is he not doing that can convince them to stay.  Or is there nothing he can do and it's inevitable.

I thought he was a good recruiter.  He does need to recruit the best players on his roster and right now, he's 0 for 3.  He just is.  All 3 players announced well after he got hired.  He had time to talk to them and recruit them.  So, what happened.  Was it just inevitable all along or was there something he could have done better?

He can't keep them because they realize it's going to be the same crap. different season.  Defense was a black hole last season and we haven't pulled any JPP's or Selvies out of the transfer portal to quickly improve it for next season.  As a coach, what can he say to keep them??  I think they waited to see if we got anyone good from the portal before leaving.  Any talented player realizes they can go to any other school and have a better end result than they did here and probably get better NIL money on top.   I'm going to go with nothing he could have done better to keep them opinion.  Hopefully, he can build the defense up to at least mediocre and keep the offense above average and maybe we'll squeak out a few wins in the next couple of seasons.

Skip went on the do well at La Tech for several years. CJL- well you know he pretty much soared after USF. I know all the chips fell into place Cinderella style-and it wasn't merited, but I'll always remember when USF RANKED #2 IN THE NATION! I think I see some CJL in cag🤔

I know it's kind of a joke that "we were ranked #2 once", but everyone forgets the next season we were ranked #10 or #11 for a little while.

So I clicked on the Tweet and there were numerous responses of "How can I help" and the like.

Tired of the cryptic tweets.  Like I tell my son, use your words.  No one's a mind reader.  I'm sure there are plenty of USF fans / students / community that would help with whatever he needs.  He's been a great athlete and done nothing but good things for USF.

This happens easily.  He and Grier were going to autograph pictures to sell here and we are going to do that.  Grier also talked about some apparel.  It's just a lot harder to do without broader support and of course some on the board that can't make a post without insulting a player, coach or admin complicates things further.

If you intend to do any future NIL stuff with players, maybe instituting a ban on name-calling or negative posts / threads about individual players.  I know the pendulum has swung a little further with NIL deals and some say they are free game, but they are still student athletes and teenagers and shouldn't be personally attacked on here.  Players make mistakes in games and that should be corrected by the coaches.  Calling them out on here doesn't help them at all.  There are ways of posting constructive criticism without specifically calling out individuals.

  8. In the Rome interview, it sounded like he let it slip that he was bringing a former high school coach that inspired his journey.  I would say either Jeff Snyder (coach from 98-99) or Karl Johnson who is the present football coach at Dublin Scioto High School.

    If it's Johnson, his accolades:

    Karl Johnson
    2000 - Present
    146 Wins, 100 Losses
    2001 OCC-Cardinal Champions
    2002 OCC-Cardinal Champions
2002 OCC Co-coach of the Year
    2003 OCC-Cardinal Champions
    2003 State Final 4
2003 OCC-Cardinal Coach of the Year
2003 Dispatch-Agonis Club Coach of the year

He had the same advantages and disadvantages  of the other jeff at utsa.  The only difference is one can coach  and build  players up and yhe other had no clue what he was doing while making excuses for his failures.

Did this guy kick your dog or something.  He's gone, you don't have to keep throwing dirt on his grave.   I don't think you can really compare the two Jeff's unless you actually followed both teams all season, tracked their injuries, qb situation, how many were out every week due to covid...etc.  It's kind of naive to say these two coaches started at the same time, so they should have both been equally successful.

I'll be the sourpuss on this one.

None of the talk impresses me at all.  Not the Russia stuff, not "the plan", not outworking the country or having the best coaching staff in the nation.  Like Scott, these guys know how to talk.  The real question is do they know how to coach and conduct all the activities and functions that lead to success.

    The mystery continues for me....

Where we are as a program currently, there's not much else he can say.  It's going to be tough trying to convince recruits that he is building something here that will be successful.  We do have some building blocks in place with a great QB and RB.  It will be interesting to see if he can have success plugging in 2 and 3 star guys into his offensive system instead of what he had at Tennessee.  From the radio interview, it sounds like he has been planning this for over 2 years and micro-managed hours, days, weeks for what he needs to do to be successful as a coach.  Who knows if it will work, but it sounds like a better plan than Scott had when he came in.
