Coach Skip Holtz has 21 offers(according to scout.com) on the table for five star and four star recruits. 6 for five star and 15 for 4 star guys. Now I am a positive thinker with the new head coach and have a lot of faith in his decisions. I just wonder what he's trying to do (I'm certainly not questioning anything) with putting 21 offers out to these four and five star guys.

IMHO i think he's casting out 21 rods and hoping one of them lands a big fish. Or he could be trying to increase USF's exposure to these highly recruited guys....Out of those 21 I think we have a legitimate chance at a few: Max Lang OL,....

I'm gonna stop there and see what you guys think.

GO BULLS!! can't watch football but Recruiting is year round baby

They certainly won't consider USF without an offer.

What do you want him to do, only offer 3 star recruits because thats what he can get. The logic behind your question is pretty weak. Should we just shoot for mid pack BE each year as well, because we think thats all we are good enough for?

A lot of those kids were being heavily recruited by USF  and several had offers when Holtz took over.  Holtz is doing the same thing as the prior staff did, identify the best players and offer them.  We will see if Holtz has better success in getting the best here.  I would expect that out of the 21 referenced that 5-6 will show real interest and as the year goes on that those will be the ones the staff focuses on.  As the other kids say they're not interested then new kids will be put onto the board.

Because XCJL didnt get the best? Just look at the last couple of drafts. Despite what people say recruiting wasnt the problem at USF.

The last couple drafts?  This year theer were 5 last year there was 1 (Tyrone McKenzie who transferred in from Michigan State).  Leavitt was starting to do a better job with higher end talent (function of winning some high profile games and being in a BCS conference and the family environment the recruits felt when on campus), but I would have expected him to do better this year and next also.  Not a slight at leavitt in recruiting.

Id say look at the last 2-3 signing days. USF has shown marked improvement. Now lets hope Holtz step it up a notch or two.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

“In my mind, I’m kind of like, ‘OK, excuses over'. We know what we need to do. We’ve got the right team together, and now we move forward, and we’ll evaluate and be accountable to each other, including myself, from this point forward.”

    Michael Kelly
