WVU lost another verbal to Florida:

Dwyer's Clark swiches commitment to Florida

> Posted by Steve Dorsey on December 16, 2009 10:21 PM

Robert Clark, the speedy wide receiver and shut-down cornerback for Dwyer, said Wednesday night that he is backing off his verbal commitment to West Virginia and instead plans to sign with Florida.

"It's Florida. That's final," Clark said after Dwyer's practice for Saturday's Class 4A state championship game at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.

Clark said he informed UF head coach Urban Meyer of his decision Wednesday. Meyer attended Dwyer's practice Wednesday.

Clark's older brother Gilbert Grantlin was genuinely surprised when informed of his younger brother's change of heart as he was talking with West Virginia assistant coach Lonnie Galloway, who also attended Dwyer's practice Wednesday. I got the feeling that Grantlin was going to have a talk with his younger brother about changing his mind, so we'll see what happens, but Clark said he really enjoyed his visit to UF last weekend. He said he also likes the fact that UF has told him they want him to play wide receiver, his preferred position, whereas WVU is recruiting Clark to play cornerback.

Clark said he also has decided he wants to attend school closer to home and he likes the fact he will join Dwyer teammates Matt Elam and Gerald Christian in Gainesville.

It was a turbulent day for the Mountaineers, who also learned that Pahokee defensive tackle Richard Ash, who committed to WVU during Thanksgiving week, gave a verbal commitment to Michigan and former Mountaineers coach Rich Rodriguez.

"It was kind of difficult to make that switch, because I really like West Virginia," said Ash, who visited Michigan two weekends ago.

Galloway said WVU also lost assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator Doc Holliday, who is leaving Morgantown to head down state and become the head coach at Marshall.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
