Bulls Stay Undefeated with Shutout Over Alabama

Andrea Hauksdottir netted her second career goal to lead USF to a 1-0 shutout.

TAMPA, Fla. (Sept. 2, 2016)— Leave it to the freshman.

Notching her second goal of the season, freshman Andrea Hauksdottir led the USF women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory Friday afternoon.

After a scoreless 75 minutes, it seemed that the Bulls (5-0-0) and the Crimson Tide (4-1-0) would be headed toward overtime. However, in the 77th minute, Hauksdottir played an assist from Trudi Carter at the top of the box, turning and shooting the ball into the left side of the net.

Hauksdottir was the only offensive player who did not sub out at any point, joining defenders Lotta Fennefoss and Kelli Burney, and goalkeeper Kat Elliott as the only four to play the full 90 minutes.

USF would stave off a late aggressive attack from Alabama, as Elliott made four saves to earn the win and the shutout.

Quotable

“The shot that hit the crossbar-Kat flew. I don’t know if she would have saved it, but it looked like. There’s games where she’s really anticipating and getting there before the ball and today was a great day for her.”-head coach Denise Schilte-Brown

Key Stat:

·       Kat Elliott made four crucial saves to keep Alabama off the board.

Notables:

·       Evelyne Viens and Andrea Hauksdottir led the Bulls with three shots each.

·       The Bulls have posted three shutouts this season.

·       Freshmen have scored five of the teams 11 goals this season.

·       Denise Schilte-Brown needs just six wins to reach 100 at USF.

Up Next:

The Bulls host Jacksonville on Thursday, Sept. 8, at 5 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the men’s team.
