After rebounding from rock bottom, Taggart and USF on rise

By RALPH D. RUSSO AP College Football Writer

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — USF football seemed as if it was sliding backward in year three under coach Willie Taggart when the Bulls were soundly beaten last September at Maryland.

Many of the players were still coping with the stabbing death of a former teammate less than two weeks earlier, but both Taggart and his boss knew what happened at College Park was unacceptable.

"Willie will be the first to admit that we had arguably one of the worst performances that we've had in his tenure here," USF Athletic Director Mark Harlan said. "But after that game Willie and I spoke. And I just said, 'That can't happen.' And he said, 'That can't happen.'"

Unlike previous years, I don't see/hear any evidence that we'll regress. Aside from maybe a small question mark on the O line and the D's coming together, it's looking pretty strong. If everyone stays healthy and keeps their heads on straight, this could be a record-breaking year.

I'm on mobile and this link is not working for me. Gives a 404. Anyone have an updated link?

Edit: Maybe I should Google prior to posting. http://collegefootball.ap.org/article/after-rebounding-rock-bottom-taggart-and-usf-rise

Rock bottom is 0-12! USF never had a 0-12. 2-10 was bad enough.

Staff turnover. For example, we lost Tom Allen. "Bull Sharks" defense will enjoy dwindling mention this year until it is all but forgotten next year. Here's to hoping Coach Woodie has a little Wally Burnham wile in him.
