The Cubans haven't been the same since they got rid of the presser. And now they won't even butter the bread before the microwave it. It's not like food-based fires ever killed anyone.

    +1

JJs has better bread if you are getting a cold sub and it saves you 30 minutes

2-3 star, committed to UCF.  I'm sure there's a good list of folks, so we'll wait & see if Coach Taggart gets some cool Tweets out later.

He's not a UCF commit. He committed without the new staff ever talking to him and has yet to take an official visit, he would have visited the 15th if the staff accepted him. Not saying he isn't a good player but he's one of those mix ups between the old and new staff

On the other hand, Miami/Tampa weather is brutal for the majority of the year. Hot and humid as hell, sweating balls by the time I get into work. Cold weather and snow can be fun for 4 years if you've never experienced it and aren't driving back and forth everywhere. Sometimes a new environment is enticing for people. My childhood was spent in Chappaqua, NY and I loved it. I'll go back up to NY every couple of years with my fiancee who was born and raised in Tampa and she loves the snow. People here seem to put so much emphasis on the weather (these kids aren't buying a home, living and working there forever). Having said that, I'd be shocked if he chooses Temple since they are in the same conference as us and I'd be surprised if he chooses Pitt. But, with Dugans leaving, who really knows?

maybe as a little kid or other later stage in life but College Life is much better in warm weather states. Almost the entire Spring semester is borderline gray depressing for a lot of these BIG 10 schools, by the time it warms up it is summer break

what is considered "back" from 0-12? 3-9? 6-6? 12-0? or just recruiting (assuming they stay committed) 2 fast players? help clarify.

USF has had what 1 winning season in the last 4 years? pump the brakes

The South Florida Player of the Year at RB just committed last weekend. He's a big piece that will fit Frost's offense. Him and Killins will be fun to watch in the backfield, slot, etc

And hopefully the B12 is taking a long term view on the decision.  Florida is now the 3rd most populous state in the country.  USF and UCF combined have over 100,000 students.  That's where the money will be coming from 10 years from now.

if the UCONN rumors are true I give up on college sports

Big12 is supposed to be a Football First Conference and they want to add UCONN? Have they seen their games, it's a depressing MAC like atmosphere.

USF & UCF go back and forth on childish attendance jabs but I can guarantee both schools would average near 50K fans instantly when the Home schedule turns to Texas/OU, WVU, USF/UCF, Baylor, etc every other season. At UCONN? They care about college basketball some but are mostly obsessed with Pro Sports and Baseball

Obviously Pete isn't aware of the double secret email a ESPN guy sent a Houston fan, GoCoogs or something, that had UCF as a lock and Houston/Cincy battling it out for the other spot based on their average attendance this year ....

I think Thamel's a pretty well connected guy in the industry and although it is still just his opinion, it carries a little more juice than the multitude of other bloggers out there. Personally, I hope that the B12 is allowed to have the CCG without going to divisions because that's the way it should be but, as mentioned in his article, that's not going to fly with the other Pee5's because it could put the B12 in a pretty good position for the Final Four in most years.

if any of those 3 is a lock it's Cincy bc of the geographical bridge to WVU.

I like the idea, but I think that Shannon is biding his time for another head coaching job. Some SEC position coaches get paid more than some defensive coordinators in our conference. I'm sure if Willie can make the money right, Shannon could be swayed to come over for a cup of coffee.

McElwain likes Shannon a lot, he was stressing his importance to his program when the rumors of Collins to UCF. I'd be surprised to see Shannon make that move when he still believes he could be a Head Coach again.

  8. Cant see it ever happening. Ever ever ever.

Think about this, Blake Bortles had an amazing season at UCF and didnt even get a sniff.

Also the Heisman is a bit of a fraternity, cant ever see the elitist UFers OhioStaters of the world voting in someone from USF.

His numbers weren't that great but not bc he wasn't capable, O'leary bogged down the offense too much and stayed run first until UCF was in trouble then he opened it up and let Bortles sling it.

He wouldn't have got invited anyway. Heisman are Brand Snobs

  9. A good friend of mine who works in athletics (not at either school now, but he was at UCF during this time), says that UCF's athletic department feels basketball was a MAJOR factor in tipping the scales to USF.

yeah heard the Basketball Arenas was a major point. USF's was state funded while UCF's at the time was basically a Garage. Also Lee Roy Selmon was a big name helping you guys at the time.

  10. Frost got 3 average commits, congrats.

I don't think it's about that. This blogger(homer alert) kind of sums up why Frost is a breath of fresh air compared to GOL. We won't know for a few years if he is a good HC but it's the feelings of a lot of UCF fans & I think even USF fans agree about the points about O'leary..

UCF has needed a culture change for years. It's shocking to say that given that the program is 2 years removed from the most shocking BCS bowl upset in college football history. But that year masked many if the problems surrounding the O'Leary regime. No I'm not talking about the Erek Plancher  case. The issues ran a bit deeper than that. George O'Leary had enjoyed running over the fanbase. The students in particular. His press conference were not Bout energizing and uniting the fanbase, instead what we got was a lecture. A lecture about how the fans needed to show up on time to games and not leave so early. His appearances at UCF's homecoming event Spirit Splash seemed forced and contrived. He didn't want to be there, the fans did not want him there. There was hardly any accountability for a poor performance, everything was someone else's fault. Even as it became clear this season that O'Leary's coordinators could not coach themselves out of a wet paper bag, he blamed the players and not his staff. And that underlines a point if a coach was an O'Leary favorite they got 0 blame. First it was Tim Salem who was a disaster as an offensive coordinator in that was shielded from O'Leary. Then it was Brent Key, the failed offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator turned historically awful offensive coordinator. Up until O'Leary was removed as head coach, he defended Key staunchly so much so that anyone that questioned him was shouted down or made to feel stupid. That pushed people away and divided the fanbase.

O'Leary ran his row times with fear. There have been multiple stories from players, current and former, that say that George would berate players. That players were so scared of making a mistake and being berated. It was something that almost drove Jeff Godfrey out of the program. Intimidation and fear of failure led to scared and timid play in the field. This led to boring bland football that was painful to watch after Bortles, Storm, Perriman all left. While every college football team, including the likes of Alabama and Stanford, had adapted to a faster style of play O'Leary's played at the slowest pace in the game. It made it painful for even the staunchest of supporter stay for an entire game. The community in Orlando was put off by O'Leary's lack of recruiting local kids. Instead of grabbing some kids from the likes of Doctor Phillips, George would send his assistants to recruit the likes of Syracuse, New York. That is not the home base of UCF and pissed off high school coaches in Orlando. The reason for this was that George believed that kids did jot want to stay home for school, instead wanting to go somewhere else. In other words, he didn't even try to recruit local kids. The Orlando Senteninel recently had and article about the layers UCF passed on: Jacques Patrick (Orlando Timber Creek), Martez Ivey (Apopka), Chandler Cox (Apopka), Garrett Williams (Orlando First Academy) and Tommy Townsend (Orlando Boone). In addition to Karl Joseph and Pig Howard. In fact UCF did not have a single recruit from Orlando in 4 years. In short, O'Leary in the end was a cyst within the program. One that kept, fans, students, and alums far, far away.

  11. I guarantee you some sort of shuffling is going down this summer. This time last year, it was quiet. There's smoke this year.

The most quiet and easiest path: the Big 12 add two teams. Loud and noisy: big shuffling and movements between the P5s.

If the Big 12 adds two teams, USF has about 25% as an independent, say like with Cincy or some other school, and 30% as a combo with clown-U because of the TV market and the rivalry.

No way they go with BYU. Too complicated with the scheduling. UConn makes no sense for traveling. Houston makes no sense for TV territory.

It's dodge ball team picking time. Only the chunky kids are left!

Smile and suck in your gut, USF!

are you new to this? there is smoke every year/summer. I'm convinced it's College Football bloggers getting bored after signing day where there is nothing else to speculate about

  12. The financial issues rest primarily on the definition of a "GOOD ONE".  This is where is becomes about UCF, gawd forbid if we build an aluminum structure like theirs, or a number of other college stadiums around the country just like Bright house.  I would rather have a tin can that sits 40K+ than to be having this same conversation 10 years from now.

When butts are in seats, no one cares what the stadium is made out of.  When teams are winning, no one cares about what the stadium is made out of.  If UCF did not have an aluminum stadium, I doubt the fan base would care, if they really do anyway.

yeah when I see the criticism about UCF's stadium I'm wondering if the same fans have been to other college football stadiums around the country. the majority of the stadiums are 75% bleachers. The only difference is some of those venues have full facades built right away where you don't see the exposed steel

  13. No way FSU has room for us on the rival list. Miami (wide right?) is the standard in-conference, and UF is the historic perennial rival they (and UF) look forward to every year. Even I'm not sure I'd want to see that rivalry ever die, it's a FL classic.

Florida will always be FSU's #1 Rival with Miami being the Secondary rival. Florida-FSU has a more classic generational family rivalry where fans always know family & friends that went to either school and you have houses divided. With Miami it's not the same bc most of their fans never stepped foot on that campus.

That's why USF-UCF could develop into that bc both are huge public schools so it's the same dynamic but with programs that are very young and still trying to build a tradition.

    You can't force natural rivalries
