  1. UL's strength of schedule is horrible, even going 12-0 would you put them in top of 4 over possible 1 loss teams like KSU, OU, ND, Bama, Florida?

I still think they lose to RU or Cuse, they are getting better but not over dominant, 3 or 4 teams could of beat them including USF.

I don't buy strength of schedule bullcrap. The players can only win the games they are given. If my team wins every game they did the best they could possibly do, so why should they get punished because their athletic department couldn't pay UF enough to play them? Screw that. Undefeated Big East team should be in the NC game all day over a one loss SEC, because the Big East team did their job. The SEC team didn't.

Now, does that put the best two teams in the National Championship game? Hell no. But if that upsets you, make a **** playoff system. Problem solved. Until then, you can't screw over a team that goes out there and does the best they can possibly do.

You clearly don't understand big time football.

So an undefeated SunBelt team deserves a shot at the Natty over a one loss SEC champ or a team with a scheule like ND with one loss?

I understand big time football just fine. I also understand the way it is structured keeps the big teams up top and little teams little chance of ever getting there.

And seeing as a Sun Belt team wouldn't be playing BCS opponents regularly, they probably shouldn't be playing in the NC game. But who's to say that an undefeated Sun Belt team isn't the best team in the country? Going your "big time football" way we would never find out, because their accomplishment would be shoved to the side. Playoffs. They are the only way to find out who deserves to be in the NC game.

No they shouldn't. No it's not their fault that they didn't face any worthy opponents, but when teams like Florida, Oregon, Kansas State, LSU, Alabama, Georgia etc....are playing top 25 and top 15 teams for more than half of their schedule, they are showing that they are elite. Houston last year didn't play a single top 25 team until their championship game and they crapped the bed. They would of been killed in a BCS bowl. Remember Hawaii in the 08 Sugar bowl? Went undefeated and they were killed by Georgia. TCU and Boise St have shown that they can hang with the big boys year in and year out plus they play difficult games. These other teams just don't.

SEC teams start the year ranked because they are in the SEC. Notre Dame starts EVERY freaking season ranked. Rankings are arbitrary and stupid.

The way the system is set up now, if 2 undefeated teams remain it should be those two teams in the NC game. Period. End of story. If you want the 2 BEST teams make a **** playoff system. But how dare a bunch of football "experts" make the call that an undefeated group of kids shouldn't play for the Championship over another team that didn't accomplish an undefeated season.

  4. What Holtz needs are a coaching staff that does their jobs WELL. Right now Holtz is drowning. He is scared of losing (you see it in his game management, the guy is petrified), and has coordinators and coaches at every position failing at their jobs.

Holtz isn't this bad a coach. He isn't. But it is his fault that all these problems have snowballed and created the catastrophe that is taking place. He needs to wipe up his tears, man up, and take some responsibility for this team right now. Firing Cosh and the rest of the Defensive staff is a good start, then he needs to follow it up with the hiring of a big time INDEPENDENT DC. He can right this ship, but he needs to start making his moves. Right freaking now.

  5. I would still think that even if we lost most of the remaining games that Skip may remain as coach as long as our coordinators get canned. That buyout amount may be stopping them from firing him. Who knows, we have not been in this situation before

    This.

Skip will remain HC if he guts his staff, that's the deal Woolard will give him.

I think there will be a couple conditions for next season though.

    Lose to UCF= Done

    No Bowl next year= Done.

  6. Guess what guys? Schools have occasional bad seasons. In fact, all those schools you listed have had several terrible years.

We made a bad coaching hire and had a couple bad seasons. The sky is not falling. The program is not dead. Time to hire a new staff (maybe HC as well) and fix this.

NCAA Football is a roller coaster and right now we are at the bottom. But we will go back up (and back down), it's the nature of the sport.

But if you want to act like one sucky year erases everything this school accomplished.... Go ahead.

  7. If I wake up tomorrow, late mind you after a bender tonight, and Cosh is reportedly fired, it's the only way I'll have some faith restored in Holtz.

Holtz is a tool. Imagine how much better (!!) Lamar would be if he weren't wasted at WR all those years. Or, how much better our secondary could be if TRex developed as a CB. Instead, we made incredibly shortsighted moves to fill in gaps at WR where we're now stacked, and missing starting caliber players at the positions they were taken from. Yay!

    THIS X1000000

    Night guys.

  8. We need some fire and one conference win in last years is unacceptable with the talent we have....

Dude, what talent are you talking about. There is NO talent on this D. They ALL suck assss. They sucked last year, they suck this year, and they will suck next year unless we get better recruts.

Good schemes and coaches can mask a hell of a lot of missing talent. Replace the idiotic defensive coaches and gameplans and watch how much better they get.

The players aren't great, but they aren't this bad.

  9. USF is in a bad spot now. He has to go, the longer USF waits the more chances for a win here or there to extend the inevitable. That will extend this terrible situation we are in. He has no future here. No coach can come back from how last year ended and this year has gone and lead a successful program.

I hope they are lining up candidates for years end. Even if USF won out from here, they have to commit to the idea of firing him and follow through.

No, I think if he completely guts his coaching staff Holtz will be back. That's how much of a financial burden he is.

  10. I don't think most of this is on Skip. That is a popular sentiment around here, but our senior class this year may well be the worst as far as team leadership USF has ever had. A head coach doesn't define the character of a team. Seniors have to set that tone. Seniors should be addressing the lack of effort, but instead they pretty much lead it. Skip is to blame only in that he doesn't see the problem or has failed yet to address it.

Defense is the only part of the team CONSISTENTLY failing. That is on the coaching staff (especially the DC). There is nothing wrong with the senior class' lack of enthusiasm when the coaching staff gives them schemes built to fail.

  11. So after listening to these questions..."Coach, I noticed the run defense really improved"....I have to ask, is it worth calling in with legitimate criticisms? Or will my call be immediately screened away?

    And yay First Post!

What would you hope to accomplish by calling in with criticisms, legit or otherwise? Now that you've broken your cherry here, feel free to use it as a catharsis and criticize to your heart's content ...

I wouldn't attack the coach or anything, but I was hoping to bring up the horrible play of this defense. Cosh has never had a big history of success, the team is giving up 31pts to the high power Ball State Offense, 429.5yds a game against FBS teams, zero QB pressure, and at what point does he begin to hold the staff accountable for poor play?

I'm just asking because it seems that since this turmoil started, call ins have been limited to "It's just a game", "I believe in you! ". I will give it a shot, but I just wanted to know if I had a chance in hell of getting through.
